Georgia for SEPTEMBER 1943 NEWSPAPER Issue of Friday, September 3, 1943 MISS JEWELL HARDY WILL WED J.E. FAVER Of interest is the announcement made by Mrs. W.B. Hardy of the engagement of her daughter, Miss Jewell Violet Hardy of Athens and Atlanta, to J. Earl Faver of Atlanta, son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Joseph B. Faver. The marriage will take place September 12th inthe Glenn Memorial Methodist Church at Emory University. The attractive bride-elect is the daughter of Mrs. Laura Vaughan Hardy and the late W.B. Hardy. She attended the Georgia State College for Women at Milledgeville and the University of Georgia, receiving the degrees of B.S. and M.S. in home economics at the latter institution. While at the State University she took an outstanding part in campus activities and held active membership in Kappa Delta Pi, professional educational fraternity. ___ SALEM Community News Miss Clyde Bell from Altanta spent the weekend with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ike Bell. __ Mrs. B.B. Blanks, Sallie Kate Blanks and Bobbie Lee spent last weekend with in Columbus with Mr. and Mrs. Jack Holley. ___ Mr. and Mrs. Hulet Heard and Jackie spent Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Ben Johnson of Ridgeway. __ CENTRALHATCHEE Community News Miss Elgene Duke is at home for awhile. She had the misfortune to fall and hurt her right shoulder a few days ago. __ LOCAL NEWS Mr. Clarence Smith, popular Gulf Gas distributor of Hogansville, and regular visitor to Franklin, died suddenly of heart trouble onMonday. He was a man of many friends. ___ Pfc. Merlin Simonton of Kessler Field, Miss., was at home this weekend, visiting his parents, Mr. and Mrs. C.T. Simonton of Centralhatchee and his brother postmaster, Carl Simonton of Franklin. ___ Mrs. T.J. Greene of Roanoke is spending a few days with her daughter, Mrs. Wilson Awbrey. __ Mr. R.M. Nutt, while examining the river near his shop this week, located an ancient wagon wheel. While the spokes and fellies had been eaten off by the water and the wheel was badly rusted the rim was still in good state of preservation. The old wheel may have gotten into the water a century or so ago. ___ Staff Sgt. James Kent of Ft. McPherson was here the past week. __ NEWSPAPER Issue of Friday, September 17, 1943 The Pardon and Burgess reunion was enjoyed by a large crowd near Ephesus at the home of Mr. and Mrs. R.M. Burgess. At noon a beautiful table was spread under the shade trees in the yard. A hundred or more were present from any points in Georgia and Alabama. ___ NOTICE OF APPLICATION FOR BIRTH CERTIFICATE Georgia, Heard County Notice is hereby given as required by law that I have this day filed application with the Ordinary's office office of this county for a birth certificate to be issued to me in accordance with the Georgia law of 1943. Denney, chairman. ___ Miss Mary Jean Owensby spent the weekend in Atlanta with her sister, Mrs. Harry Nieubruegge. __ Mrs. J.L. Daniel is spending several days in Atlanta with her daughter Mrs. Robin Lockett. __ Seaman 2nd class Hoyt Brown who is with the Coast Guard, spent his furlough recently with his parents, Mr.and Mrs. Will Brown and Mr. and Mrs. J.W. Vaughan last weekend. ___ Mr. and Mrs. Bill Burgess and Elsie Lee visited Mr. and Mrs. John Noles of Hillcrest last weekend. __ Pfc. Huell Hill has returned to Camp Beale, Calif., after spending a seven day furlough with homefolks. __ LOCAL NEWS Mr. and Mrs. Horace Noles have moved to Mobile, Ala. __ Mr. A.J. Gore has returned to Akron, Ohio after visiting relatives. __ Mr. and Mrs. Carvie Sheets and Mrs. C.B. Hill visited Pvt. Hunice Sheets of Camp Wheeler, GA on Monday last. ___ Pfc. J.C. Dean is at home with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ira Dean. He has been in the southwest pacific and has had many exciting experiences. __ Mr. J.O. Lee lost two of his brothers during the past two weeks, C.S. Lee of Jonesboro and Joe Lee of Zebulon, aged respectively 86 and 84. Both had been in feeble health for several years. __ SCMM Abrose Spradlin, Naval Air Station of Opelika, Fla., spent a short furlough with his mother, Mrs. M.E. Spradlin and other relatives recently. __ Pfc. Alvin Brazeal from Ft. Jackson, S.C., spent the weekend with homefolks. __ Sgt. Jewel Jackson of Camp Claiburn, LA, has been at home on furlough with Mrs. Jackson at Manchester and his parents, Mr. and Mrs. J.H. Jackson near Centralhatchee. __ The Selective Service Board released the names of the following boys recently inducted into service: Navy Douglas G. Cook James H. Bowen Thos. J. Davis Jr. Darnell W.
