JACKSON, 81, DIED SATURDAY NIGHT Mrs. Sara Theodosia Jackson, age 81, died at her home in the Lowell community following an illness of three years. Mrs. Jackson as born in Alabama November 23, 1862, the daughter of Jourdan Abit and Elizabeth Herrin Wood. She was a member of Bethel Primitive Church in Heard County where she joined about 30 years ago. As a child of seven she moved to Georgia. For the past 33 years she has lived at Lowell where she and her husband moved from Heard county. On December 15, 1881 she married Mr. Burrell N. Jackson who survives her. Other survivors are three sons, Jourdan A., Lee H., and Leonard B. Jackson; one daughter Mrs. K.C. Moore, all of Lowell; 13 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren; four brothers, Charlie Wood of Bowdon, GA; J.B. Wood of Griffin, GA; Lewis Wood of Tampa, Fla.; Jourdan Wood of Fairburn, GA; and two sisters, Mrs. Della Harman of Carrollton and Mrs. Sinah Jones of Merkel, Texas. Funeral services were held from the Lowell Methodist Church Monday at 2:30 p.m. with Rev. W.E. Hawkins and Rev. L.H. Burson officiating. Interment was in the Lowell Cemetery. ________ Miss Ernestine Barbara Rainwater married Welburn Jim Caldwell on Wednesday, February 9th by the bridegroom's father, the Rev. W.H. Caldwell at his home near Franklin. Mrs. Caldwell is the youngest daughter of Mrs. E.H. Rainwater and the late E.H. Rainwater. She was graduated from Bowdon High School in 1941. Mr. Caldwell attended Berry School and enlisted in the United States Coast Guard in December 1941. He was promoted recently from second class petty officer to first class petty officer and has been stationed at Eau Gallie, Fla., until this month when he was transferred to Norfolk, VA. Following a brief honeymoon in Atlanta, Mr. Caldwell reported for duty at Norfolk. Mrs. Caldwell is residing with her mother. _______ GOSHEN News We are sorry to report that Henry Dorough is suffering with a cut foot sustained while cutting wood on Monday. __ Mr. and Mrs. Monroe Smith announce the birth of a son on February 26th. ___ GLENN Community Mrs. Jim Gamble has just returned from a visit to her son Leon's family in Savannah, GA. __ Earnest Crockett has been ill with flu for several weeks but is able to be up now. __ Mrs. Carl Middlebrooks is on the sick list. __ Mrs. Dovie Hunter has been confined to her bed for several weeks. We wish for her a speedy recovery. __ James Crockett is working in Columbus at Williams Motor Co. _______ EPHESUS News Mr. and Mrs. W.L. Rogers spent Sunday afternoon with Mr. and Mrs. W.W. Traylor. __ Mr. and Mrs. T.B. Wood visited their parents, Mr. and Mrs. R.F. Loftin and Norman below LaGrange Saturday, Norman being home from the Navy, who was formerly from this community. __ Mr. and Mrs. Herman Rogers and family spent the weekend with their parents, Mr. and Mrs. L.J. Tally. __ L.W. Yates, Mrs. L.M. Yates and daughter Novice spent Sunday in Anniston, Ala., visiting L.M. Yates who is ill there. __ Carl Rogers who was inducted into the Army recently, is now stationed at Ft. Bragg, N.C. His brother Merlin has been moved to Camp Jefferson, Missouri. __ E.V. Kelly visited his mother, Mrs. Beullah Kelly on Saturday. She continues ill at her daughter's home in Newnan. __ Mrs. Fannie Rogers and Mrs. Mae Prince were the guest of Mrs. I.B. Daniel on Sunday afternoon. __ Mr. and Mrs. Will Burgess of Wedowee, Ala., visited his father, Mr. Miniam Burgess on Sunday. __ NEWSPAPER issue of Friday, March 10, 1944 RIDGEWAY News Mrs. Clarence Heard of Omaha, Ala., is visiting her mother, Mrs. S.I. Arrington who is on the sick list. __ Mr. and Mrs. A.J. Smith and children visited their daughter, Mrs. Charles Paschal and family of Hogansville, Sunday last. __ Mr. and Mrs. M.B. Traylor and daughters Martha and Rose and Mrs. John Harwell visited relatives in LaGrange Sunday last. __ W.C. Arrington, Humphrey Hood and sons Leonard and Roy visited relatives in south Georgia last weekend. __________ ROCKALO News Mrs. Claud Grizzard is seriously ill. __ We are sorry to learn of the death of Junior Arrington, who was killed in action over in Italy. He was a neighbor in this community some time ago. ___ Mr. and Mrs. John Thaxton, together with Will Thaxton, visited their son at LaGrange on Monday last, who is very ill. _______ GLENN News HOME NEWS, GOSSIP Mrs. J.K. Ayers of Gabbettville, spent several days the past week with her sister, Mrs. T.E. Owensby. __ Miss Nancy Anne Paul of Austell, spent last week with her Aunt, Mrs. A.J. Lane. __ Mr. and Mrs. B.F. Cagle are spending a while with relatives in Greenville. __ Corporal T.B. Lane Jr., of Washington, D.C. is at home on furlough to visit his father, who has been confined by illness for several weeks and improves quite slowly. He is expected to go to a hospital in Atlanta for treatment within a few days. ___ Mr. K.R. Denny has returned from Tatnal Prison where he was a guard for awhile and will form a connection with the Bell Bomber plant at Marietta. __ We are advised that Ben Abner, son of Hef. Abner, died suddenly where he was working in Alaska a few days. We were unable to get further particulars. ___ Postmaster Carl Simonton left this week to enter the armed forces at Ft. McPherson. __ CENTRALHATCHEE News Mr. and Mrs. Paul Merrill of Arnco, visited relatives here over the weekend. __ J.W. Ham is leaving Wednesday for induction into the Navy. __ Mrs. Mary Emmaline Key, a former resident of Centralhatchee, was buried here Saturday. __ Friends of Mrs. Burl Jackson are sorry to hear of her death. She was buried at Lowell on Monday. Mrs. Jackson was a former resident of this place. ___ MT. PLEASANT News Mrs. Alice Meacham of LaGrange, spent Saturday night and Sunday with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Whitley Lester. ___ EPHESUS News News has been received that Cpl. James H. Prince, who has been on the Hawaiian Islands for 22 months has been moved to the central South Pacific. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. F.B. Prince of this place. __ Dorsey Cater of Columbus spent the weekend with his father, R.A. Cater and family. __ Mr. and Mrs. Hubert Smith of LaGrange spent the weekend with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. C.N. Owensby. __ Pvt. Reuben C. Jackson of the Army Engr. Corps has been awarded the good conduct medal. He is the son of Mrs. Hattie N. Jackson of Rt. 2, Franklin, GA. __ Postmaster Carl Simonton is back from his draft call at Fort McPherson. __ Mrs. M.W. Lipford, Mrs. Brewer Lane, Mrs. F.L. Gearreld, and Mr. V.O. Smith spent Sunday in Atlanta visiting Mr. Brewer Lane, Mrs. Sallie Lane and Mrs. V.O. Smith, who are all at Wesley Memorial Hospital. Mrs. Smith is expected to return home today. ___ Ambrose Lee Spradlin has been advanced to the rate of Aviation Machinist Mate second class, after passing a rigid examination before the local board of review. Spradlin, son of Mrs. M.E. Spradlin, Franklin, GA, is stationed at Miami Naval Air Station and lives with his wife at 2323 N.W. 52 St., Miami, Fla. ___ Many friends sympathize with James Ware, colored, in the death of the past week of his aged mother. __ EPHESUS News Mrs. Fannie Robinson has returned home after spending the winter with her daughter in Goodwater, Ala. __ Mrs. L.M. Daniel and Joyce spent Saturday in Roanoke visiting her mother, Mrs. Lon Dukes. __ Mr. and Mrs. James Laster and Lee of LaGrange spent the weekend with homefolks. __ Mrs. H.B. Burson spent last week with her sister, Mrs. Clyde Robinson, who is sick. __ Mrs. L.F. Brazil and Mrs. Tempest Banks are visiting Mr. and Mrs. Velma Brazil in south Georgia, having gone for Estral Brazil's wedding. __ Our community was shocked Sunday to hear of the tragic death of Render Almond of this place which occurred Saturday night in LaGrange by an accidental pistol wound. Red, as he was called, was a likeable boy, loved by everyone he met. He was buried at Prospect on Monday., Rev. G.L. Rogers officiating. __ ROOSTERVILLE News Mrs. Mae Denney is back at home from the Carrollton Clinic and she is improving nicely. Her two sons, Private Dorsey & Winchester Denney are spending a short furlough with her at this writing. __ We are sorry to report that J.A. Hester is still on the sick list. __ WARESVILLE News We are sorry to hear of Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Moore's house being burned. They only saved a very little furniture. __ Our community was made sad to learn of the death of Searcy Arnett. He was only sick one day and was buried on Sunday at Paran. __ Homer Janney continues to be real feeble. __ M.F. Lee was married Saturday night to Mrs. Parmer of Hogansville. __ Edmon Arnett, who is in Roanoke hospital, is improving after having his arm removed. __ Mrs. Joe Rice from Fairfax, Mrs. Robert Drummond from Montgomery and numbers of others were visitors here this weekend to attend the Arnett funeral. __ Mr. and Mrs. Dewey Almon's boy, who was accidentally shot, was buried at Prospect on Monday. __ CENTRALHATCHEE News Mr. Frank Thornton is on the sick list. __ Mrs. Marion Pittman of LaGrange, spent the weekend with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. B.R. Jackson. __ A birthday dinner honoring J.B. Eley Sr., was enjoyed by a good many relatives and friends. __ NEWSPAPER Issue of Friday, March 31, 1944 FINAL TRIBUTE PAID TO BEN ABNER, WHO DIED IN ALASKA Funeral and last rites were paid Saturday at the Franklin Methodist church for Ben Abner, 41, whose death in Alaska on March 5th had been reported. Rev. J.C. Adams conducted the services, with Lewis & Lipford as directors. Surviving are his parents, Mr. and Mrs. H.H. Abner; brothers, Sam and Charlie Frank Abner; sisters, Mrs. J.A.
