He had lived on the Ridley farm and adjoining Davis farms for more than half a century. He reared a large family of his own and three other sets of children for others; part of these were orphan children. Ambrose was a good colored citizen and was well thought of by both white and colored. He was a member of the Mt. Olive Church and one of the oldest colored people in Heard County. ______ CENTRALHATCHEE News Mrs. W.B. Hardy and Mrs. Joe Merrill made a visit to see some of their brothers and sisters in Vienna. __ RIDGEWAY News Cpl. Rufus Vaughan of Tennessee is visiting his parents, Mr. and Mrs. L.J. Vaughan. __ Mrs. Charlie White and children of Simpson visited her daughter Mrs. Bud Noles and family Sunday last. __ We are sorry to report the death of Mr. Groce Snyder Saturday night last. He leaves his wife and two sons, Reece and Davis, a host of relatives and friends. The funeral was held at Bethel, Alabama Church, with Revs. Alvin Gore and Herman Caldwell officiating. Interment was in adjoining cemetery with Lewis & Lipford in charge. ___ Mr. and Mrs. W.Z. Noles entertained at dinner Sunday in honor of their son John Noles, of LaGrange, who has been inducted into the Army and will leave within a few days. All of their children were present, except Pfc. Zollie Noles, who is somewhere in England. ___ ROCKALO News Mrs. Sallie Hull was badly bruised by an Ox last week but is slowly improving. __ GLENN News Mrs. Beula Barrett is spending this week in Columbus and Ft. Myers, Fla., with relatives. __ HOME NEWS, GOSSIP Mr. J.U. Gilliland, Roanoke, Ala., spent a while this week with his daughter, Mrs. Stanton Adams. Both he and Mrs. Gilliland were injured in a Roanoke- LaGrange bus wreck a few days ago near LaGrange. Mrs. Gilliland is still in the hospital with a broken leg. __ Mesdames W.M. Paschal and Virginia Traylor spent a day last week in Roanoke with Mr. Sam Carter who remains quite feeble. __ The Heard County Sacred Harp Memorial Singing Convention will convene at Hopewell Church on the first Sunday May 7th. All lovers of music and the dear old songs are invited. L.W. Denney, Chairman. ___ Randolph County, Ala., Singing Convention will meet at Big Springs, the 3rd Sunday in April the 16th. __ NEWSPAPER Issue of Friday, April 28, 1944 Fifty-one fine Heard County selectees went to Fort McPherson for examination and ultimate induction into the armed forces, Monday last. No official list of acceptances has as yet been authorized, but from persons returning we get the information that at least these names were accepted: P.L. Eady Fred I. Brown Wilson Awbrey J.H. Norton ________ HOMECOMING AT WESLEY CHAPEL Next Sunday is Homecoming at Wesley Chapel. The services will start at eleven o'clock Central War Time. We want all the old members to be on hand; also all the friends of the church. If the weather man will give us a chance we will have the place in first class condition. We will have a basket dinner. Be sure and bring your basket well filled.
