Smith and children visited Mrs. Nora Pittman of Roanoke, Ala., Sunday last. __ Miss Betty Jean Arrington spent the weekend with Miss Onie Prestridge of Franklin last week. __ EDITOR MCCUTCHEN ILL IN HOSPITAL After a year or more of failing health, Editor McCutchen is in Newnan Hospital under the care of Dr. G.W. Hammond. We are glad to report that he is improving. ___ EPHESUS News The family of Cpl. Troy M. Daniel recently received a German rifle from him. __ Mrs. W.L. Rogers and Mrs. John Cavender both continue to be ill. ___ Mr. and Mrs. Hulet Prince visited her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Albert Ward of Graham, Alabama on Sunday. ___ Mrs. Nathan Teal visited her husband at Ft. McPherson on Sunday. __ Several from this community attended the reunion at Mr. N.L. Folds' near Antioch on Sunday. __ Wayne Prince left for the service on Monday. __ CENTRALHATCHEE News Mrs. C.T. Simonton is ill at a hospital in Chicamauga, Tennessee. __ Uncle Jim Echols is at the Georgia Baptist Hospital in Atlanta. __ Mr. and Mrs. Bill Ingram of Cartersville and Herschel Parham were recent visitors of Mr. and Mrs. J.H. Parham. __ Mr. and Mrs. Johnson Bledsoe of Columbus spent a few days with relatives here this week. __ Pvt. Amos Duke left for California on Monday after spending a furlough with his family. __ Several people from here attended the funeral of L.B. Neighbors at Welcome Friday p.m. __ ELERY News A large number of relatives and friends attended the Folds reunion and birthday honoring Mr. Noah Folds on Sunday at his home at Elery. __ S/Sgt. James E. Barker came home for the weekend bringing with him a very close friend, Sgt. Orville Steward of Oklahoma who was his roommate in prison camp in Germany. They also marched side by side on that long strenuous march beginning the 6th of February, ending the 26th of April, when they were delivered to the American troops. Then they met again at Cochran Field, Macon, GA where they were sent for treatment. The Barkers were greatly honored by having the pal of their son visit their home. ___ We heard three fine sermons at Caney Head this weekend, delivered by Fred Shelnutt, a young boy eighteen years of age. There is a great future for this young man. Bless the boys who have the courage to go after being called to preach the gospel. ___ Mr. and Mrs. Milton Folds of Carroll county visited his brother Tom and family Saturday night. __ LOCAL News Mr. and Mrs. Barney Cook, Mr. and Mrs. Loyd Cook and Marie, also Mrs. Molly Garrison have returned to Wellington, Texas after a short visit with Mr. and Mrs. J.C. Cook. Sgt. and Mrs. Jesse Cook were up for the weekend. ___ Miss Sarah Daniel and Mrs. W.S. Guice Jr. left Monday for Atlanta to take up their work as teachers in Fulton County. __ Miss Phyllis Lee is visiting Mr. and Mrs. Barney Lee in Knoxville, Tenn. __ ROCKALO News Mr. and Mrs. Will Thaxton and Mrs. Emma Grizzard visited Uncle Jimmie Roberts Sunday p.m., who is in feeble condition. __ NEWSPAPER issue of Friday, September 14, 1945 EPHESUS News Mrs. Denzil Williams who has spenet the last seven months with her husband in California is spending some time with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. H.B. PLEASANT News Miss Hattie Humphrey of Atlanta spent the weekend with her Aunt, Mrs. Sue Hill. __ The many friends of Grady O'Neal family will be sorry to know they have moved to Shawmutt, Ala. ____ We are sorry to say Idus Middlebrooks and wife will soon move to LaGrange where they have bought 25 acres with store house and dwelling. We hope someone will take their place here and run the store for we will be lonesome without it. ___ CENTRALHATCHEE News H.W. White Jr. of the Marines is at home with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. H.W. White Sr. ___ Mr. and Mrs. Robert Jackson spent the weekend with his sister, Mrs. Mary Potts at West Point. __ Horace Street received a discharge from the Army recently and is with his mother. __ Winston Cooley of the Navy is visiting his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Hoyt Cooley. __ Of interest to their friends it he marriage of Miss Mary Upchurch of Carrollton to Cohen Jackson on Sunday. __ Gary Chambers is spending this week with his grandmother Eley in Hogansville. __ LOCAL News Mrs. C.T. Simonton who has been in the hospital at Chattanooga is now staying with Dr. and Mrs. Fred Simonton in Lafayette. Mr. and Mrs. C.T. Simonton, Carolyn, and Cpl. Merlin Simonton spent Sunday with them. __ Capt. C.C. McCutchen, Miami Fla., Mrs. W.D. Hammond and Miss Ida Hammond of Marion, Ala., arrived Monday to visit Mr. and Mrs. P.T. McCutchen. Mr. McCutchen returned Monday from Newnan Hospital. ___ Cpl. Stephen H. McCutchen, Army Air Force of New York City, is home on furlough with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. P.T. McCutchen. __ Messrs. Charles Goodson, James Lee and Joe Stephens left last week to enter Gordon Military Institute in Barnesville. __ NEWSPAPER Issue of Friday, September 21, 1945 EPHESUS News Our whole community was overjoyed Saturday Sept. 15th when Mrs. C. Laster received a message from her son Ralph who has been a prisoner of the Japanese since the fall of Corregidor in 1942. It stated that he had been liberated on Sept. 9th and would soon be on his way home. __ Mr. and Mrs. C.N. Cater visited their Uncle Jack Benefield near Woodlawn, Ala., Saturday. __ LOCAL News Editor McCutchen is still confined to his home but is improving though slowly.
