CURRAN PASSES AFTER LONG PERIOD OF FAILING HEALTH Mr. J.T. Curran, 78, died at his home near Enon Grove Friday night last and was buried at Wesley Chapel, where he was a member, Saturday afternoon, services conducted by Rev. J.C. Adams. Mr. Curran had always been prominent in public affairs, standing for the things that were good and uplifting. He was a Mason, and for many years had served his district as Justice of the Peace. He is survived by his widow and two children, Mrs. Emmett Stallings and Raymond Curran. ____ ALMON AND SON BUY NEW GIN SYSTEM As we go to press we are informed that Messrs. Z.P. Almon and Son have purchased a modern gin outfit to replace the old Burns gin near their home. The new outfit will consist of four 80-saw gins of latest design, with dryers, and will be installed early in the spring, one of the most complete gin outfits in this part of the state. ____ CENTRALHATCHEE News Uncle Ben Eley continues ill. John Shelnutt and family visited them Sunday and Mrs. Shelnutt and Carolyn remained for a longer visit. __ Mrs. Ernest McLendon was on the sick list last week. __ GLENN Community News Passing on to his reward, Mr. P.D. Johnson was buried near Pleasant Grove church Sunday afternoon. He is the father of Mrs. Lewis Adams of Glenn and we extend to her our sympathies. ___ There are some who read "The News and Banner" that would like to know how my mother, Mrs. John Crouch is doing. She has been a semi-invalid for almost a year, and now a bad ankle makes it very hard for her to walk about. She never gets out of the house anymore, and if she had a rolling chair she could probably do lots of things around the house she begs me to let her do. Having a strong determination to keep on keeping on, she is piecing quilts for her grandchildren. "I hope I can get all of the ones pieced before I die", she told me one day recently. ________ EPHESUS News Of interest to their many friends were the recent marriages of Miss Ethel Rogers and Mr. Millard Crews on December 1st, and Miss Audrey Cater and Mr. Jack Ennis on November 22nd in Macon, GA. ___ Mr. and Mrs. Pete Camp of Roanoke, Ala., were the Sunday guests of Mr. and Mrs. J.T. Camp. __ Mr. Wayne Cater received his discharge at Fort Meade, MD, Nov 20th. He spent a week with his sister Mrs. John Hester at Rossville, GA before returning home. __ Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Rollins have moved into their new home near Black Jack Mountain. __ LOCAL News Mr. John Oswald, recently returned from overseas, is visiting his Aunt, Mrs. B.H. Cagle. __ Mr. Will White, formerly of Franklin, was back among old friends the past week. He is an expert harness and shoemaker and is looking for a suitable location to go back into business here. ___ NEWSPAPER Issue of Friday, December 14, 1945 THOMAS E. BARBER DIED LAST SATURDAY Funeral services for Thomas Edgar Barber, 66, of 120 Temple Ave., who died Saturday night, were held Sunday afternoon at the First Baptist Church with Dr. L.O. Leavell officiating. Burial was in Oak Hill cemetery. Mr. Barber was a native of Heard county but more recently operated a grocery store on West Washington street. He is survived by his wife, one son, D.G. Barber of Atlanta; six brothers, Oscar Barber of Franklin; W.G. Barber of LaGrange; Roy F. Barber of Birmingham and J.B., G.A. and C.J. Barber all of East Point, and two sisters, Mrs. Lola Bagwell of Stone Mountain and Mrs. H.H. Heard, of Washington, D.C. The pallbearers were Albert Cates, Grady Robinson, Joe McWaters, Frank Wood, John Doster, J.L. Poole, I.B. Williams and J.H. Widner. The Newnan Times _____ EPHESUS News The singing at Mr. Looney Rogers Sunday night last was enjoyed by a large crowd. Our next singing will be at the home of Mr. Lonnie Rogers. __ Ford Yates of the Navy, stationed in Washington, D.C., spent a short leave with his wife and parents recently. __ Mr. and Mrs. Alton Jackson of LaGrange spent Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Walter Traylor. __ Denson Daniel of the Navy has arrived in Philadelphia after seven months in the Pacific. Denson was on an aircraft carrier just outside of Tokyo Bay when peace was signed. He is expected home soon on furlough. Cpl. Troy Daniel is also expected home from Germany by Christmas. ___ Those who continue on the sick list are: Mrs. Charlie Rogers Mrs. Frank Rogers Mrs. Odell Loftin Mrs. John Camp Mrs. W.L. Rogers We wish for them a speedy recovery. _____ Mrs. Opal Bynum and children of Cleburne County, Alabama have moved into our community. __ Mr. Roy Daniel attended a chicken supper at the Colonial Hotel in LaGrange recently, given for the Veterans of Foreign Wars. __ Bonnie Pace and Chester Mitchell from Ft. McPherson who recently re-enlisted in the Army spent the weekend with home folks. __ CORINTH News Mr. H.A. Miller, Mrs. J.S. Jackson and Mrs. Joseph Jackson have been in Florida for ten days on a fishing trip with Mrs. Paul H. Randall and a party of friends from Atlanta. They expect to return the last of this week. __ Welborn Darden is home after being discharged from the Coast Guard, and after more than a year in the South Pacific. ___ Eugene Hammett who was discharged from the Navy recently, has re-enlisted and returned after a month at home. __ GLENN Community News Another good old man has gone on to his reward, leaving a large family of children and grandchildren to mourn their loss. Mr. O.F. Whatley, father of Mr. Henry Whatley, died Saturday, being buried Sunday afternoon at the family graveyard near his home. He would have been 91 the first of the coming year. He lived contented under his own fig tree, so to speak, as he did not leave the home place long. He bought his father's home and spent his entire life there. ___ LOCAL News Mrs. S.H. Jones returned Saturday from a visit with relatives in Gainesville. __ Mrs. J.L. Daniel was called to Atlanta Monday on account of Mrs. J.W. Daniel having an accident and breaking a limb. __ Mr. Virgil Bledsoe arrived home Tuesday from Ft.
