McCutchen of Atlanta spent the fourth with homefolks. __ Mrs. Mac Winn of Douglasville spent the weekend with Mr. and Mrs. A.J. Lane and Mr. and Mrs. Will Young. __ Mrs. M.F. Kelley of Macon is visiting Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Cauthen in Leesburg, Fla. __ Mr. and Mrs. Thos. Gilliand and children of Roanoke, Ala., spent Thursday with Mr. and Mrs. Stanton Adams. __ NEWSPAPER issue of Friday, July 19, 1946 RIDGEWAY News Mr. and Mrs. Brewer Lee Paschal annouce the birth of a daughter born July 12th at Knight Sanitorium in Roanoke, Ala. ___ Mr. Herman Harris is home for a few days from the Anniston hospital where he is taking treatment. __ STATE LINE News Sorry to report Mr. J.L. Hunter is on the sick list. __ Rev. and Mrs. H.F. Keeble and grandson little Mike are visiting Mrs. Keeble's parents, Mr. and Mrs. C.D. Yarbrough. __ Mr. and Mrs. Olin O'Neal spent Sunday with their daughter Mrs. Render Barber. __ Mr. and Mrs. Sidney Dollar spent vacation with their parents, Mr. and Mrs. T.J. Whitley. __ Thomas Brumbeloe has just received his discharge from the Navy. __ CENTRALHATCHEE News Mrs. Hope Lane has returned from Oklahoma where she spent two weeks visiting relatives and friends. __ Mr. and Mrs. J.L. Eley are in Hogansville with Mr. and Mrs. Harvie Lee McWaters. Mrs. McWaters is recuperating from a recent operation. __ We are very sorry to hear of Mrs. M.E. Wyatt being sick at Bowdon. __ Mrs. Troy Chambers has been ill in the Carrollton Clinic for several days but glad to say is better at present. __ Mrs. H.E. Burdett is recovering from a serious attack of appendicitis at a hospital in Opelika, Ala. Mrs. Carl Simonton has been with her mother for more than a week. Mrs. Burdett was in a serious condition for several days prior to her operation. __ Mr. Harold Awbrey has re-enlisted in the Navy and is stationed at Charleston, S.C. at the present. __ LOCAL NEWS Mr. and Mrs. James W. Shumake of Centralhatchee announce the engagement of their daughter Flo Rene to Joseph J. Duffy of Carrollton. The marriage will be solemnized July 28th at 4:30 p.m. at Heflin, Alabama at the home of Rev. J.K. Smith. The groom-elect is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Arzie B. Duffey of Mt. Zion. His mother is the former Miss Lillie Chambers, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert J. Chambers of Carrollton. His paternal grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Samuel M. Duffey of Carrollton. Mr. Duffey attended Mt. Zion High School. He then held at position at the Atlanta Baking Company. He volunteered for the Army Air Corps as a Gunner on a Liberator B. In 1945 he received his honorable discharge after completing three monthys of overseas duty with 13 missions. He is now in training at Lovvorn's Shoe Shop in Carrollton. The bride-elect's mother is the former Miss Belle Folds, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James Folds of Carrollton. Her paternal grandparents are the late Mr. and Mrs. James Shumake of Heflin. _______ NEWSPAPER Issue of Friday, July 26, 1946 EPHESUS News Mr. John Dukes and Mrs. Vester Hester were married July 13th. __ Miss Katie Daniel, formerly of this community, and Archie McCullough, were married July 13th in LaGrange. __ Mrs. John Strickland passed away Friday July 12th at the home of a daughter, Mrs. S.L. Nixson. She was laid to rest at Macedonia on Saturday at 2:00 p.m. Our deepest sympathy goes out to the entire family. ___ Mr. Jackie Mitchell and family visited his sister, Mrs. Lizzie Smith at Omaha on Sunday. Mrs. Smith is seriously ill. ___ Mr. Brewer Burson has returned from the Roanoke Hospital very little improved. His son Earl has just returned from overseas and he, his wife and daughters are spending a while with them. __ Mrs. A.W. Dukes of Roanoke, Ala., spent Sunday with Mrs. L.M. Daniel. __ Mr. and Mrs. Alton Jackson of LaGrange spent the weekend with Mr. and Mrs. Walter Traylor. __ Mr. Irvin Rogers, son of Mr. and Mrs. Charlie Rogers and husband of Mrs. Elizabeth Duke Rogers, has returned from the Pacific Theatre of war with an honorable discharge afer several months of service with the Army. ___ LOCAL News Mr. and Mrs. Roy Summerlin moved this week to Cataula, GA to be closer to their work in Columbus. __ Mr. H.B. Craven, prominent Simpson community citizen, died early Tuesday morning. The funeral was help at Ephesus on Wednesday at 2:00 p.m. but we do not have additional data as we go to press. __ Mrs. J.W. Elmore of Atlanta is spending a few days with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. W.C. Hill, while her husband attends to business in Akron, Ohio. __ The Spradlin family reunion will be held at the home of Mr. Arnold Spradlin at Brown's Cross Roads next Sunday July 28th. __ WELCOME Community News Mr. Lynn Ragland spent several days last week with his daughter, Mrs. T.A.
