ADAMSON HELD IN LAGRANGE Funeral services for N.R. Adamson, 92, who died Saturday at the home of his son, G.C. Adamson, were held today at the chapel of Hunter-Owen with the Rev. Olin Sheppard, pastor of the United Congregational Christian Church, officiating. Burial followed in Hillview Annex with Morgan Bennett, Howard Bennett, and Lehmann Adamson, all of LaGrange, and Curtis Adamson, Roy Adamson, Grady Adamson, all of Fitzgerald, serving as pallbearers. Mr. Adamson was a native of Heard County where he was a well known farmer and lumber man. He came to LaGrange for residence in 1901 and retired from active work in 1925. Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. J.A. Bennett of LaGrange, and two sons, H.R. Adamson of LaGrange and G.C. Adamson of Fitzgerald. ___ CLAUDE MONTGOMERY DIES AT ASHVILLE, N.C. Claude Truitt Montgomery, 50, a former resident of Heard County and son of C.J. Montgomery of this county, passed away at Veteran's Hospital in Ashville, N.C. on July 23rd. He had been in ill health for some time. Besides his parents, he is survived by his wife, Mrs. Sudie Montgomery of Augusta, GA; three sisters, Mrs. J.H. Bell of LaGrange, GA; Mrs. Lucile Lott of Moultrie, GA; and Mrs. Mozelle Smith of Franklin, GA; one brother, Lewis Montgomery of Monroe, GA. Funeral services were conducted at Eliott's Funeral Home on July 25th by the Rev. R. Wedward. Burial was in West View cemetery with Masons in charge. ___ EPHESUS News by Miss Beulah Daniel Everyone seemed to enjoy the Sacred Harp Singing held here on Saturday and Sunday. Many visitors from different parts of Georgia and Alabama attended. Mr. J.B. Prince will soon be ready to open up his new store and filling station here. __ Mr. and Mrs. Robert Burgess and baby, and Miss Lois Yates and Merlin Yates of Marietta were here visiting homefolks this week. Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Cash of Lanett, Alabama visited Mr. and Mrs. John Cavender this weekend. Mrs. H.B. Burson entertained at a lovely birthday dinner Sunday for her two children, Mrs. Denzel Williams of Wedowee and Mr. Earl Burson, who recently returned from service. Several other relatives and friends were present. __ LOCAL News Mrs. W.D. Zachry, formerly Miss Etta Moore, flew from her home in Houston, Texas to Atlanta last week to visit Mrs. Tom Camp who is Mr. Zachry's sister. She is now visiting her cousin Mr. J.H. Kitchens of Texas, and other relatives and friends in Heard County and hopes to see as many as possible of her Heard County friends while in Georgia. __ Mrs. Ed Settles is spending the week with Mr. and Mrs. Paschal. __ Mr. and Mrs. A.F. Parrish of Athens were the guests of Mrs. J.E. Kent for the weekend. __ Mrs. Mac Burns is recovering from a serious operation at Crawford Long Hospital in Atlanta. __ Many friends of Mrs. Wallace Bonner will be glad to k now she is improving from her illness at Newnan Hospital. __ Mrs. Emmie L. Daniel has returned from a pleasant visit to Mr. and Mrs. Lane and other relatives at Portsmouth, Virginia. __ There will be a memorial service on Sunday August 11th for Bonnie Johnson, who was killed in action. This will be the starting of our Revival, which will go on through the week. Rev. W.L. Eley, pastor. ___ The family of the late Mr. and Mrs. C.M. Denney, will hold their annual reunion on Sunday August 11th at the home of Rev. and Mrs. L.A. Gore near Antioch, Church in Heard county. Relatives and friends are invited. __ The W.M.U. meeting was held at the home of Mrs. Coe Jones on July 29th at 3:30 o'clock. Delicious refreshments were served. The circle consisted of 13 members and one visitor, Mrs. Gilliland, the mother of Mrs. Margaret Adams. Mrs. Lillie Romanowisz had charge of the program. The topic for discussion was "Missionary Education, a Christian Imperative". The talk was given with great eloquence. Discussion by the groups concerned the problems of our church and how to solve them. ___ RIDGEWAY News Mr. and Mrs. Brewer Lane Paschal and children James and Sandra Lee visited Mr. and Mrs. J.N. Eley of Centralhatchee. ___ Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Montgomery of Cullman, Ala., are spending a few days with relatives here. __ Miss Dera White spent Sunday with Margaret Bozeman. __ DEATH CLAIMS R.L. VAUGHAN Death claimed Robert Lenton Vaughan, 64, prominent farmer of Drayton community., Tuesday morning at 5:45 o'clock, a heart attack proving fatal. He had been in ill health from a heart ailment for the past four months. Mr. Vaughan was born at Franklin, GA on February 2, 1882, being a son of Richard Marion and Susie E. Hollingsworth Vaughan. He had made his home here for the past 26 years and in his passing the community loses a progressive farm leader and highly esteemed citizen. He was a director of the Middle Georgia Electric Membership Corporation and served on the county committee of the agricultural adjustment administration. He was a staunch member of Drayton Baptist Church and took an active part in religius work in the community. Funeral services were held from the Vienna Baptist church conducted by Rev. R.L. Harvey of Fort alley, Rev. G.L. Griffin of Pinehurst, Rev. M.J. Bennett of Cordele and Rev. A. Walters of McLenney, Fla. The Peavy Quartet sand "Death is Only a Dream, Goodnight Here , Good Morning There and Rock of Ages." Mrs. R.C. Akin was accompanist. Surviving him are his wife, Mrs. Annie Kate Vaughan, two sons, J.R. Vaughan of Miami and H.M. Vaughan of Vienna; three daughters, Mrs. H.B. Wilson of Hogansville, Miss Christine Vaughan and Mrs. W.A. Walters of Vienna; five brothers, V.V. Vaughan and S.E. Vaughan of Vienna; L.J. Vaughan and H.G. Vaughan of Newnan; and W.W. Vaughan of Miami; four sisters, Mrs. A.E. McDowell of Vienna, Mrs. W.B. Hardy and Mrs. E.W. Hammond of Newnan and Mrs. Joe Merrill of Franklin. The Vienna News _______ EPHESUS Community News, by Miss Beulah Daniel Mr. and Mrs. Charlie Rogers had all their children, grandchildren with them Sunday, honoring Irvin Rogers, who recently returned home from overseas with a discharge. Those present were: Mr. and Mrs. J.B. Rogers and children, Mr. and Mrs. Herman Rogers and children, Mr. and Mrs. Daniel Rogers and children of East Point, Miss Cornell Rogers of Athens, Mr.and Mrs. Irvin Rogers and baby, and Mr. and Mrs. Nathan Teal . At noon a delicious lunch was served. __ Denson Daniel arrived home Sunday morning with his discharge, after spending 43 days in a Naval Hospital in Pennsylvania. __ Mr. and Mrs. Frasher Bailey and Mr. Hagard Robertson attended Camp Meeting Sunday at Burwell. __ Mr. and Mrs. Loyd Holcombe and family and Miss Audrey Mitchell attended a birthday dinner at Mrs. Reece's, of near Carrollton on Sunday. __ The guests of Mrs. E.U. Kelley Sunday were Mr. E.V. Kelley, and Mr. and Mrs. Loyd Kelley and family. __ Mr. and Mrs. Frank Pope and children spent Sunday in Wedowee. __ Mr. and Mrs. Wilson Green of Hamilton were the weekend guests of relatives here. __ MT. PLEASANT News, by Mrs. Suzie Middlebrooks Sandie Nelms and family of Bremen, visited his mother, Mrs. J.T. Nelms last Sunday. __ Mrs. Mattie Kirk spent last week with her sons, Pope and Elmer and attended services here. __ Lit Hunter, of near Glenn community, we are sorry to say is right feeble. I.E. Middlebrooks visited him Monday last. __ LOCAL News Mr. J.W. Lester of Atlanta was mingling among relatives and friends of the old home county this week. __ Mr. and Mrs. John H. Hodnett and grandson John H. Inzer of Atlanta and Miss Catherine Hodnett of Washington, D.C., were here Tuesday to visit friends and to look after the graves of their parents. It was their first visit to the old home town in a number of years. __ NEWSPAPER Issue of Friday, August 30, 1946 MRS. J.A. MARLOW PASSES AFTER AN EXTENDED ILLNESS Mrs. J.A. Marlow, 70, prominent resident of Yellow Dirt community, Route 2, Franklin, GA., died at her home August 20th after an illness of several weeks. The former Miss Lonie Carter, she was the daughter of the late Martha Story and Charles W. Carter of Coweta County, GA. In 1893, she and Mr. Marlow were married. They made their home in Coweta County for a year before moving to Carroll County where they resided until 1909. They have since made their home in the Yellow Dirt community in Heard County. A member of the Yellow Dirt Baptist Church, Mrs. Marlow was prominent in the religious circles of her church. Mrs. Marlow was preceded in death by her husband in 1935. Surviving Mrs. Marlow are two daughters, Mrs. D.F. McWhorter and Mrs. F.F. Milam of Route 2, Franklin; five sons, J.R.H. Marlow of East Point, GA; J.R. Marlow, R.R. Marlow, R.R.S. Marlow and R.A. Marlow all of Route 2, Franklin; two sisters, Mrs. Ben Rigsby of Carrollton and Mrs. Berry Murphy of Sargent, GA; one brother, Mr. Jim Carter of Blountsville, Ala. Ten grandchildren and one great grandchild also survive. Funeral services were conducted at 11 o'clock Thursday morning from the Beulah Baptist Church with Rev. W.M. Yarbrough, Rev. C.L. Matthews and Rev. Amos Akers officiating, with interment in the church cemetery. ____ MRS. J.E. MOOTY, 94, PASSES IN WEDOWEE; BURIED AT FRANKLIN Last week's News and Banner carried a notice of the illness of Mrs. J.E. Mooty, 94, and while the paper was being printed notice was received of the dear old matriarch's death, with advice of funeral and interment at Franklin, where her lamented husband also rests. Mrs. Mooty was a native of Heard County and resided here all her life until the death of her husband when she went to Wedowee to reside with her two widowed daughters there. She was a member of the Franklin Methodist Church to which she was a regular contributor, though unable to attend for several years. The impressive funeral services were conducted by Rev. J.A. Adams. Surviving are five daughters, Mrs. Viola Davis, Stone Mountain, GA.; Mrs. Ellen Enloe and Mrs. Lena McDonald, of Wedowee, Ala.; Mrs. H.N. Awbrey of Columbus, GA.; and Mrs. Sam Stephens, Franklin, GA.; two sons, Dr. R. H. Mooty and Mr. Bob Mooty, WInter Haven, Fla. There are also 20 grandchildren, 20 great grandchldren. Judge James C. Davis, nominee for Congress in the Fifth Georgia District is her grandson. _____ MT. PLEASANT News, by Mrs. Suzie Middlebrooks Mrs. Zelma Daniel spent last Saturday and Sunday night with her mother, Mrs. Willie Sue Nelms. __ Mrs. Effie Bennett and son of Louisville, Kentucky, returned last Saturday after spending some two weeks with her mother Mrs. Jess Nelms and other relatives. __ RIDGEWAY News, by Cliff Lesley Mr. and Mrs. Alford Sheets and children of Villa Rica, visited Mr. and Mrs. C.T. Leslie and daughter Jewell visited Mr. and Mrs. Stanford Norwood of Atlanta Thursday and Friday. __ Several of this community attended the funeral of Mrs. Lanier Heard of Big Springs, Ala., Sunday last. The entire family have our deepest sympathy. She was the mother of Mrs. J. Janney attended the funeral of Mrs. Ada Heard at Big Springs on Sunday. __ The funeral of Mr. Richard Butler was held at Ephesus conducted by Rev. W.H. Caldwell and Rev. L.G. Rogers instead of Bethel, Tuesday afternoon last week. __ Several from here attended the Yates reunion held at Veal church on Sunday. __ LOCAL News The Folds family reunion will occur at the home of Mr. and Mrs. N.L. Folds near Antioch Church on Sunday, September 1st. __ Mr. John Alderman, Jefferson City, Maryland arrived the past week to spend awhile with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Felix Romanowicz, whose charming home in the sothern portion of the city is nearing completion. __ WELCOME Community News Mr. and Mrs. Leonard King of Columbus spent the weekend with Mrs. King's parents, Mr. and Mrs. P.W. Crockett. __ Mr. and Mrs. Dick Dean of near Crossville, Ala., spent the weekend with their daughter, Mrs. Preston Walker and family. __ Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Hyatt and some others here attended the Stevens reunion at Centralhatchee on Sunday. __ Mrs. Jim Harcrow is reported to be doing fine in the hospital at LaGrange.
