Findley Mr. and Mrs. W.C. Kittle and children of Illinois spent several days the past week with Mr. John Hester and family. __ Mrs. C.T. Turner and son Bobby spent Sunday of last week in Atlanta visiting Mr. and Mrs. Durward Duke and little daughter Sharon who is in Grady Hospital for treatment. __ Mrs. A.C. Minick and Mrs. W.C. Findley and son Lunnie had as their guest on Sunday, Mr. Glen Minick and family of near Texas, Mr. and Mrs. John Nelms with Mrs. M.E. Brown of LaGrange and Mrs. Jeff Davis of Mt. Zion. __ EPHESUS News Mr. Alonzo Payton had the first bale of cotton ginned in this community on Sept. 5th. __ Mr. and Mrs. W.E. Frost and Mary Joyce spent the weekend in Talladega, Ala., with Mr. and Mrs. Ross Kirby and family. __ Mrs. Dillie Jordan observed her 70th birthday Sunday September 8th at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Grady Caldwell. All the children and grandchildren were present for the occasion. At noon a delicious lunch was served. ___ Mr. Joe Crews of Moreland is visiting his children here. __ Mrs. Kermit Cavender spent a few days with Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Cash in Lanett, Ala., last week. Mr. Cash is suffering with a fractured back and Mrs. Cash is ill. __ Adrian Payton has recently returned from service with an honorable discharge. __ WELCOME Community News Mr. and Mrs. Homer Shirey of Newnan spent Sunday with relatives here. __ Mrs. John Reid, Mr. Marvin Reid and Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Robinson of East Newnan, spent Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Lynn Ragland and relatives near Stripling's Chapel. __ Mr. and Mrs. Willard Pate spent the weekend with his parents of Newnan. __ Mrs. Clara Hyatt spent last week with her mother in Hogansville. __ RIDGEWAY News Mr. and Mrs. Charles Paschal and children of Cornelia, visited Mr. and Mrs. A.J. Smith last week. __ Mr. and Mrs. Morton Arrington visited their son and family Mr. and Mrs. D.J. Arrington of Hogansville last weekend. __ Mr. and Mrs. Harwell visited Mr. and Mrs. Wiley Wilson of Gray Hill, Alabama, Sunday last. __ LOCAL News Mrs. Carl Simonton is in Ponce de Leon infirmary in Atlanta for treatment. __ Mr. and Mrs. Elzie Street of Lawrenceville spent the weekend with Mr. and Mrs. Wright Lipford. __ Mrs. C.W. Lipham is in the hospital in LaGrange, quite ill, much to the regret of her friends. __ WARESVILLE News Mrs. Cliff Middlebrooks is in the hospital at Roanoke but is improving. __ Mrs. Winnie Pope and children sailed for Germany about two weeks ago. __ Fletcher Cavender whose leg was broken by a tombstone falling on it, st recovering at Roanoke Hospital, and will be there for several weeks. __ Mrs. Jim L. Jackson's mother from South Carolina is visiting her this week. __ Mrs. J.L. Pritchett is improving after being sick for about four weeks. __ Sorry to learn of Mrs. Lurline Vineyards serious illness. She is now at the hospital in Newnan. __ Mrs. Etta Zachary, from Texas, is visiting relatives in Waresville. __ Mr. and Mrs. Zelma Wilkerson will move to Riverview this fall. __ FORMER HEARD COUNTIAN DIES IN HOUSTON, TEXAS News has been received of the death a few days ago of Mr. J. Thos. Archer, 63, at Houston, Texas. He was an expert printer and linotype operator. He was trained at the News and Banner office, leaving for other fields and lucrative salaries when the plant was first destroyed by fire in 1898. He was a brother of Mrs. B.F. Cagle here. ___ NEWSPAPER issue of Friday, September 20, 1946 EPHESUS News Aunt Meig Harper, age 93, of LaGrange, was buried here Wednesday, September 11th. The funeral was held in LaGrange. She was once a resident of this community. __ Mr. Earl Burson and wife have a new dwelling house going up. __ LOCAL News Mrs. John Miller and sons Thomas and Wayne spent a few days last week in Glenn community with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. B.T. Adams. She enjoyed being with her brother Cephas, who has just returned from Japan. __ Mr. J.J. Arrington and daughter Mrs. Kramer Kenney returned home by plane last week from a visit to relatives in Akron, Ohio. __ Mrs. H.J. Noles left Friday to spend the winter in Miami, with Mr. and Mrs. Watson Noles. __ Mrs. Georgia Archer Baugh of Tulsa, Oklahoma is visiting relatives here and in Greenville this winter. __ STATE LINE News Mrs. Lola Boggus of south Georgia is visiting friends and relatives in this community. __ Uncle Lit Hunter died at his home September 5th and was buried at Union Grove Church cemetery, Sept. 7th. He will be greatly missed in this section and he was loved by all. __ Mrs. Mildred Toney has been real sick but is better at this writing. __ NEWSPAPER Issue of Friday, September 27, 1946 CARTER WATTS INSTANTLY KILLED WHEN STRUCK BY TRUCK Late Tuesday afternoon, Carter Watts, son of Mr. and Mrs. Corbin Watts, who now operate the Allen Store in west Franklin, with his younger brother, went to the Owensby store down the hill toward the bridge on an errand. They were playing along on their return on the right side of the road when a truck passed them, and passed another truck coming down the hill driven by Selby Gladney, son of Sheriff and Mrs. J.E. Gladney. Young Watts evidently did not see the big lumber truck and seems to have jumped right in front of it from behind the truck that had just passed him and was instantly killed. The sad and tragic accident was unavoidable, witnesses say. ____ The marriage of Miss Annie Ruth Bowen and William Bryant McWhorter, both of Centralhatchee, was solemnized Sunday, September 15th at 4:00 p.m, with the pastor Rev. Gordon Willingham performing the ceremony. The bride is the third daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lee Bowen of Centralhatchee. The bridegroom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Rufus McWhorter. He attended West Georgia College and served twenty months with the United States Army. Sgt. McWhorter was discharged June 11, 1946 at Fort Bragg, N.C. He is now employed at Callaway Mills in the office, in LaGrange. ___ Russell Reeves charged with the murder of Jack Watson was found guilty of voluntary manslaughter and was given 8 to 15 years. ___ LOCAL News A recent marriage of interest was that of Mr. Fletcher Russell and Miss Ona Prestridge. Mr. Russell is the only son of the late Mrs. E.E. Lewis. __ RIDGEWAY News Miss Mae Brown and Mr. Tom Turner were married Friday afternoon. __ Sorry to report that Uncle Dan Arrington and Mr. Charlie Sheets have been real sick the past week. __ Miss Norvis Davis and Mr. Marvin Noles were happily married Saturday night. __ Mrs. Nora Pittman and son Charlie of Roanoke, Ala., visited Mr. and Mrs. A.J. Smith Sunday last. __ Mr. H.C. Phillips, Mr. and Mrs. V.M.
