This October 1947 I am living up to my word. The person interviewed is Mr. George Caswell. The story is about his visit to Texas. Mr. Caswell and Gerson Adamson left LaGrange, GA July 23, 1947, arriving in Fort Worth, Texas the next day. They went to Handley, Texas," a town about the size of Franklin, GA: , to quote Mr. Caswell. At Handley they were met by Mr. and Mrs. W.E. Bennett, a couple I shall write about next week. Mrs. Bennett is Mr. Caswell's sister, whom he had not seen in twenty-one years. Imagine how happy they were to see each other again. On July 26th they visited Mr. Noah Z. Caswell, Mr. Caswell's brother, at Loraine, Texas. Mr. Caswell found his brother and wife head over heels in high school work. No they do not do reading, writing and arithmetic, but they do a vital job, that of seeing that the lunches are on time, etc. I wish I could go to their school about dinner time but not at class time. From Loraine, Texas they went to Denver City, Texas to visit Mrs. Merle Hoover, a neice of Mr. Caswell. That visit was made on August 1, 1947. On August 2nd, he and Mr. Adamson with relatives, went to Hobbs, New Mexico for sight-seeing. What kind of town is Hobbs?, I asked Mr. Caswell. "Oh, well, it is just an oil and whiskey town." Leaving the town of Hobbs they headed back to Loraine, Texas where they enjoyed another stay with his brother and wife. August 11th they left Handley for Greenville, Texas to visit Mrs. W.T. Cummins, the late Mrs. George Caswell's sister, whom Mr. Caswell had not seen since Mrs. Cummins left this community in 1904; forty three years ago. Tell me about Mrs. Cummins, I said to Mr. Caswell. "Well, he answered, I found Florence in pretty bad health. She is not even able to do her housework. Bill has to do all of her churning and the heavy work. He has bad health too, but he is better of than she." Their visit with Florence and ill ended, to quote Mr. Caswell, "One of the most pleasant trips of my life time. Or maybe it was the most pleasant one." ____ File at: http://files.usgwarchives.net/ga/heard/newspapers/gnw468newspape.txt This file has been created by a form at http://www.genrecords.org/gafiles/ File size: 6.3 Kb
