MYRA CLAXTON CASWELL BURIED AT MT. PLEASANT Funeral services for Mrs. Myra Claxton Caswell, former Troup and Heard Countian, who died at her Columbia, South Carolina residence Sunday morning, were held at the Mount Pleasant Church at 11 a.m. Tuesday, with the Rev. L.S. Hunter, pastor officiating. A native of Troup County, Mrs. Caswell later moved to Heard County where she resided until four years ago, when she and her husband, the late C.A. Caswell, moved to Columbia, S.C. She died at the age of 63. The following, all grandsons, served as pallbearers: Wayne Caswell, Charlie Caswell, Bradley Layton, Hurley, Charles and Randy Cooley. Mrs. Caswell is survived by four daughters, Mrs. J.B. Cooley, and Mrs. L.J. Tollerson of LaGrange; Mrs. Nettie Wingo of Hogansville; and Mrs. A.W. Layton of Columbia, S.C.; one son, Milton Caswell of Columbia; two sisters, Mrs. Hattie Dandsv of Oklahoma and Mrs. Gussie Kenington of Shawmut, Ala; 24 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren. Burial was in Mount Pleasant Cemetery with Hunter-Owen funeral directors in charge. __ MRS. LELA GLADNEY, AGE 80, BURIED AT CENTRALHATCHEE Mrs. Lela Gladney, age 80, of Whitesburg and Roopville, GA, died Sunday afternoon in Whitesburg at the home of her daughter, Mrs. W.P. Rooks, following a short illness of two weeks. She was born in Montgomery, Alabama October 12, 1867, the daughter of William and Sally Rhodes. About 65 years ago she married John A. Gladney who died in 1933. Since the death of her husband she had lived with her children in Whitesburg. Prior to that she and her husband made their home at Centralhatchee since 1918. About 59 years ago she joined the Elam Baptist Churchi n Coweta County but was a member of the Centralhatchee Baptist Church at her death. Five children preceded her in death, three sons, Charles who died in infancy, John B. who died 21 years ago and Will who died a number of years ago; and two daughters, Letha and Vautelle both of whom died in infancy. Surviving are two sons, J.R. Gladney of Tampa, Fla., and Roy Gladney of Mulberry, Fla.; five daughters, Mrs. Fannie Houston of Rome, GA; Mrs. Maude Lovelady of Cullman, Alabama; Mrs. W.P. Rooks of Whitesburg; Mrs. Olin Howard of Roopville and Mrs. Callie Faver of Newnan; 22 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren; 2 great great grandchildren; and one sister, Mrs. Minnie Holloway of Douglasville. Funeral services were held from the Centralhatchee Baptist church Tueday at 11 a.m. with Rev. Gordon Willingham officiating. Grandsons were pallbearers. Interment was in the Centralhatchee Cemetery. __ HEARD COUNTY SINGING CONVENTION HELD AT CENTRALHATCHEE The afternoon session of the Singing Convention held at Centralhatchee Baptist Church Sunday afternoon, January 4, 1948, was a splendid success and an enjoyable event. Opening son by Chairman J.L. Bledsoe. Prayer Bro. Ben Hill, and lessons by the following leaders: J.L. Bledsoe, Virgil Bledsoe, Claxton Yates, Hogansville, GA, Elsie Lee Burgess and Zelda Duke, a couple of songs by the Eastern Star Quartette, Hancel Mason, Hogansville, Freeman Shelnutt, Hogansville, a couple of songs by the Hogansville Quartette, Coleman Talley, A.C. Liles, chairman of Troup County singing convention, W.A. Green, LaGrange, Paul Jackson, Mr. Murch, Hogansville, Junior O'Neal, Miss Jackie Gilmore, Hogansville, two songs by the Eastern Star Quartette, Harry Barton, Hogansville, Caroline and James Rogers, Jerry Driver, Hogansville. ___ MT. PLEASANT News, by Mrs. Suzie Middlebrooks Sgt. Tillman Cooley and wife of New Jersey spent several days with his Uncle Sim Cooley. __ The many friends of Mrs. Charlie Caswell will be sorry to know she was laid to rest here December 30th beside her husband who was buried here six months ago. They both had lived in Heard County all their lives until they moved to Eastover, S.C. with their daughter Mrs. Amon Layton and their son Milton Caswell, where she died. We extend to the bereaved families our sympathy. ___ Well, I guess ye scribe and husband are getting old as we celebrated our fifty- fifth anniversary Dec. 27th. __ CENTRALHATCHEE News Mrs. L.L. Yarbrough and Sara Frances Yarbrough visited Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Spruill and Mr. Harold Yarbrough of East Point last week. __ Mr. and Mrs. Maynard White of LaGrange spent the weekend with Mr. and Mrs. Arch Nutt. __ Mrs. Margaret Finger of Knoxville, Tenn., is visiting her parents Mr. and Mrs. Robert Turner. __ Mr.and Mrs. Horace Turner are moving back to our community from Columbus, Georgia. We are glad to have them back. __ Mr. Charlie Parham isn't doing so well. Mr. Bob Parham of Atlanta is visiting him. __ Mr. R.L.Merrill is home from the hospital in Newnan and doing some better to the joy of his family and friends. __ Mrs. Paul Paschal is another to be added to our sick list. __ Mrs. M.C. Thompson isn't doing very well. __ LOCAL News Dr. and Mrs. L.J. Brock and Phil will leave soon for Spur, Texas to make their home. They sold their home to Mr. and Mrs. Mike Persansky who will live there. It is with regret that we give up these good citizens, wishing them good luck in their new home. __ Mr. and Mrs. Coe Jones spent Sunday in Ashland, Ala., with Mr. and Mrs. John Kennedy. __ CAMP GROUND News Mrs. R.E. Davis has been confined to her room and bed with flu. We wish her a soon recovery. __ Mr. Newt Hodges, who has been visiting his brother Mr. Lum Hodges in an Atlanta Veteran's Hospital, who is a veteran of World War I, tells us his brother is slowly improving. __ Mr. and Mrs. Glen Minick and children of LaGrange, spent Saturday with their mother, Mrs. Minick, who we are sorry to say is showing no improvement at all. __ Mr. Otho Harris accompanied Mr. and Mrs. Joe Laster to Macon Sunday to visit Mrs. Laster's father, Mr. Phil Ashley who is seriously sick. ___ Mr. and Mrs. Junior Jackson of Centralhatchee, Mr. Tom Minick and daughters and Willie Frutral of Franklin were the Sunday afternoon guests of their mother and grandmother Mrs. Minick. __ Mr. Blake Hall and children were the Sunday afternoon guests of Mrs. Minick and children with whom she is living. __ Mrs. Minick wishes to send love and best regards to all the good people that were thoughtful of her in sending get well cards, christmas and new year cards, fruits, blankets and many other gifts as she may never see you to tell you. You know who you are. ___ NEWSPAPER Issue of Friday, January 30, 1948 JOE BLEDSOE JACKSON IS ASSOCIATED WITH LEWIS & LIPFORD Joe Bledsoe Jackson is associated with Lewis & Lipford as embalmer. He was reared in Newnan. He had three years experience with McCoon and Sons of that place. He graduated recently from Mortuary Science School in Nashville, Tenn. and has passed the State Board. He is related to all the Jacksons around Centralhatchee, being the grandson of Joe Jackson. His maternal grandfather was Jimmie Bledsoe. He is already identifying himself with the affairs of the county and has been appointed Scoutmaster of the Franklin Troop. ___ MISS HATTIE TAYLOR BURIED AT NEW SPRINGS Miss Hattie Taylor, 76 years old, was buried on Tuesday. Services were conducted at the New Springs church in Heard County. She was born and reared near Simpson community and is survived by several nieces and nephews. ___ ARCHIE R. BOYD, AGE 68, BURIED AT BETHESDA CHURCH Archie R. Boyd, 68 years old, died suddenly Monday Jan. 19th at Veal. Funeral services were conducted at the Bethesda Baptist church. Rev. Guy Rogers was in charge of the service. Mr. Boyd is survived by a brother and several children. Lewis & Lipford were in charge of arrangements. __ MICHAEL PESANSKY, 33, BURIED AT FRANKLIN Michael Pesansky, 33 years old, died Thursday night at the Newnan Hospital. Mr. Pesansky developed pneumonia Thursday morning and was taken to the hospital and died at 10:30 p.m. from the results of a heart attack. He was a veteran of World War II and was seriously injured while in service. He was formerly of Sheppton, Penn. While in service he married the former Miss Florence Arrington in 1942. He is survived by his wife, two children, his mother, four brothers and four sisters. The funeral services were held on Monday at the Franklin Baptist Church with Rev. J.C. Sims officiating. Burial was in the Franklin Cemetery. Lewis & Lipford were in charge of funeral arrangements. ____ CORINTH News Mr. Welborn Darden has been confined to his home for the past week with a case of flu. __ Corinth friends will regret to hear that J. Hope Jackson has been quite ill of flu at his home in Hogansville and is still confined to his bed. __ Mr. Clarence Nichols, who has lived near Corinth for quite a long time, died in Newnan Hospital on Tuesday night, January 20th, following an illness of several weeks. Mr. Nichols represented several insurance companies for a number of years, but had for the past few years been employed in the offices of U.S. Rubber Co. at Hogansville. Mr. Nichols was an active member of the West Georgia Wild Life Association and will be greatly missed by his friends here. He is survived by his wife and a brother, Mr. J.B. Nichols of Cochran adn one sister, Mrs. Brock Sewell of Bremen. Funeral services were conducted by the Rev. Carl McGrady, pastor of the First Methodist Church of Hogansville at Askew-Trippe Funeral Home on Thursday afternoon at 2:30. Burial took place at Carrollton. __ Mr. and Mrs. Pete Houston recently moved to their lovely new home which was built on Corinth Road about two miles from Corinth. __ Mrs. Oscar Mitchell has recovered from painful, though not serious, injuries received in a recent car accident. __ EPHESUS News Our community received one of the worst shocks on Tuesday morning, January 20th, when news came that E.V. Kelley, age 47, had passed on to his reward in the LaGrange Hospital. Mr. Kelley's death will be a great loss to this community and county as well as to his dear family. There was no one who believed in helping others any more than Mr. Kelley did. He had been employed in LaGrange for a number of years but was always of service to our church and community. His funeral wa held in Ephesus Church with burial in the Bowdon Cemetery. Rev. Wiggins of Villa Rica conducted his funeral. Our sincere sympathy goes out to this fine family. __ Mr. W.A. Daniel had the misfortune of getting a fall from his chair last week but was not seriously injured. __ Mrs. O.D. Janney has been teaching school for a few days in Mrs. Mina Kelley's place. __ Mr. and Mrs. Buford Rogers visited their mother, Mrs. W.L. Rogers this weekend. __ Mr. and Mrs. Big Boy Hall of LaGrange visited their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Bill Martin on Sunday. __ WELCOME Community News Mrs. Gertrude Gillespie and Mrs. Bernice Jackson of Arnco visited her mother, Mrs. L.L. Denney and attended the church services here. __ LOCAL News Mrs. W.S. Trent of California was a recent guest of Mr. and Mrs. M.T. Awbrey. __ The many friends of Mrs. Louis Langley will be grieved to learn of the serious illness of her daughter Miss Winsted Langley at Piedmont Sanitorium in Atlanta. __ Mr. and Mrs. L.A. Snyder and family of Nashville, Tenn., were the guests of Mr. and Mrs. M.W. Lipford several days the past week. __ Mr. and Mrs. D.H. Lancaster are spending some time with Mr. and Mrs. Leon Tarpley in Villa Rica, called there on account of Mrs. Tarpley's illness. __ Mrs. J.T.
