Mr. Gibson formerly was connected with Askew Furniture Co. in Hogansville but for the past 20 years has been in the furniture business in Lakeland. He was born and reared in Heard County and was the son of the late William Gibson and Amanda Gibson of Franklin. He is survived by his wife Mrs. Julia Bush Gibson, two sons, Bobby and Clark and one daughter Julia. Two brothers Mort Gibson of Franklin, Hope H. Gibson of Atlanta and Mrs. D.H. Dickson of Austin, Texas. ___ HOSPITAL NEWS Monday was a busy day in the Heard County Memorial Hospital. Three operations were performed. The following have been in the hospital during the past week: Clifford Faulkner, Mrs. Jewell Hopson, Lane Byrd, Bill Lipham, Mrs. Jimmy White, Mrs. Ester Wright, Mrs. Lillian Rogers, Mrs. Melvin Nelson, Mrs. Dora Webb, Mrs. Doris Smith, Mrs. J.B. Hammitt. Two colored patients were admitted: Carrie L. Gamble and Mary Pearl Jackson. ____ EPHESUS News Mr. and Mrs. L.O. Kelley were overjoyed last Friday when they received word that their son Duel would be dismissed from the Scottish Rite Hospital in Decatur the next day, Saturday. Duel has been in the hospital since early April with a broken hip. His many friends are delighted to have him home again. __ Mr. Jake Rollins has purchased a new bus for his mill riders to LaGrange. __ Mrs. Thelma Rogers is one of our "good deed" ladies in our community. She is the housekeeper for the Church this quarter. __ Mrs. Mobley Yates is spending some time with her daughter Mr . and Mrs. J.B. Rogers and family. Mrs. Yates will celebrate her 80th birthday on Tuesday October 5th. Congratulations Mrs. Yates. __ Mrs. Kermit Cavender continues on the sick list. Also, Mrs. Lovey Fincher and Mrs. G.M. Burgess spent Sunday in LaGrange with Mr. and Mrs. Selby Bledsoe. __ Mr. and Mrs. Fred Gore and family were the Sunday night guests of Mr. and Mrs. Lunnie Bledsoe. __ Mrs. Claude Noles and Mrs. Minnie Traylor have been suffering with their legs. __ RITES FOR ARTHUR ADAMS HELD AT GLENN, GA On Thursday of last week the remains of Arthur (Doc) Adams arrived from Akron, Ohio and were re-interred at Mount Zion Cemetery. The graveside services were conducted by Rev. Lovic Hunter and Rev. O.N. Wade. A number of friends and relatives were present to share with the family their grief. Arthur, like his father, was a good man and a great church lover. Survivors are three sisters, Miss Minnie Adams, Mrs. V.P. Adamson and Mrs. Hoyt Jones; four brothers, W.N. Adams, L.C. Adams, G.G. Adams and T.H. Adams. Groover, Maddox and Barnett, Inc. were in charge. __ WARESVILLE News We are glad to have Mr. Crook and Ralph Laster in our community teaching a class at Victory School on Thursday night. They certainly would appreciate your presence. __ Mrs. Clarence Wright is in the hospital at Franklin for treatment. __ Several relatives and friends attended the funeral in LaGrange of Mrs. Lou Pritchett. Mrs. Geo. Stephens, George Jr. and Jennie came up from Florida for the funeral of Mrs. Pritchett. __ Glad to see Mr. Amos Barnes out riding around. __ Mrs. Gus Stephens is in LaGrange hospital for an operation. __ Mr. and Mrs. Robert Drumond from Montgomery were up visiting relatives last week. __ Mrs. Alma Cavender has moved down near Mt. Pleasant. __ Ben Hill Jr. came down Saturday in his new Ford. __ The body of Sgt. A.J. Cobb from overseas will soon arrive to be reburied at Mt. Paran. __ THREE SISTERS CELEBRATE BIRTHDAYS SUNDAY A number of friends and relatives gathered at Grant Park Sunday to celebrate the birthdays of Mrs. Minnie Echols of East Point and Carrollton who is 72 years of age and two of her sisters whose birthdays are in September also, Mrs. J.D. Harcrow of Hogansville and Miss Annie Kate Hardy of Franklin, GA. Gracing the center of the long table was a beautiful two tiered birthday cake decorated with lovely roses and which was embossed with the greetings "Happy Birthday Three Sisters". Chrysanthemums, Asters, Gladiolis, Carnations and a variety of cut flowers were used in vases on the table. Pictures were made of the three honor guests and other members of the immediate family who are children of the late Mr. and Mrs. C. Hardy; Mrs. J.W. Spradlin of Newnan, Mrs. T.A. Lipham of Franklin, Mrs. R.L. Merrill of Franklin, Mr. Leslie Hardy of Newnan. The only member absent was Mrs. E.W. Key, who was ill. Mrs. Minnie Echols is the oldest surviving member of the Hardy family and her only grandson, Rufus Echols of Anniston, Alabama, whom she had not seen for 28 years until recently, was present to celebrate an occasion which he had never had opportunity to celebrate with his grandmother and family before. Awbrey has returned from Roanoke, Ala., after a visit with Mr. and Mrs. Jim Awbrey who are ill. __ ELERY News, by Jewell Folds Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Gore visited her parents Sunday, Mr. and Mrs. Cook near Veal. __ Mr. and Mrs. Bob Cole and myself spent Sunday evening with Mrs. Bertha Robertson. __ Mr. Ralph Sheppard, Mr. Gordon Sheppard and son and Mr. and Mrs. L.A. Yearwood and children spent Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Noah Folds. __ Mr. and Mrs. G.W. Barker visited Peggy McWhorter Sunday and carried her for a ride. She is at Warm Springs Foundation. __ Mr. and Mrs. W.E. Denney spent Friday night withtheir daughter, Mrs. Joe Haspin near Centralhatchee. __ We are happy to know that Mr. Hoke Barker is back from the hospital and doing fine. __ Mr. and Mrs. W.W. Walls spent Sunday with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. W.J. Wessinger near Ephesus. __ NEWSPAPER Issue of Friday, October 29, 1948 Mr. C.F. Lipham and Mr. and Mrs. A.L. Spradlin have just returned from Miami, Florida where the attended the National America Legion Convention. They reported having a wonderful time. Mr. Lipham flew on over to Cuba seeing the sights. __ MRS. JOHN ROBINSON DIES AT CORINTH Mrs. John Robinson, seventy-five years of age, died at her home near Corinth Saturday morning after an illness of two weeks. Mr. Robinson passed away just about a year ago. Mrs. Robinson was the former Miss Mollie Formby and is survived by the following children: W.L. Robinson and John Robert Robinson are her sons. mrs. Albert Chapman of Newnan, Mrs. Bob Brown of Moreland, Mrs. Wylie McWaters of Columbus and Mrs. Boyd Davis of Hogansville are her daughters. Her brothers are Mr. Bob Formby of Cooksville and Mr. Fletcher Formby of Grantville. A number of grandchildren also survive her. A loyal, faithful member of the Methodist church since childhood, Mrs. Robinson will be greatly missed. Final services were held at her church Sunday afternoon with a former pastor, the Rev. Mr. Roe and the Rev. Mr. Cowart in charge. The church was filled to overflow with friends and relatives who paid final tribute to her with quantities of lovely flowers. Mrs. Robinson was genuinely loved by the whole community and will be greatly missed. ___ WARESVILLE News, by Mrs. Elton Middlebrooks Mrs. E.S. Dennis spent a few days in Atlanta with her son, J.B. __ Willadene Jones was married last week to a Mr. Foster at Rock Mills. __ Mrs. John Lucas was hurt in a car wreck a few days ago but is improving at this time. __ Permelia Crouch is in Aidmore Hospital in Atlanta for treatment. __ Mary Drummond has a new '48 Ford. __ Since our last writing, we have attended three sad funerals. The sudden death of Mr. Joe Cook, our neighbor was a shock; our good friend Mr. W.P. Cumbie, who visited us about a month ago; and Sgt. Andrew Cobb at Paran which was carried out with military honors. __ ELERY News, by Jewell Folds Mr. and Mrs. G.W. Barker and Mr. and Mrs. W.E. Denney spent Sunday with Mrs. Joe Hospin at Centralhatchee and celebrated her 39th birthday. We wish her many more. __ The Folds Quartette entered a "Battle of Songs" at New Hope Church Friday night and had a wonderful singing, with all the other singers who participated in it. __ Mr. and Mrs. Noah L. Folds, Mr. Bob Cole and the Folds Quartette attended an evening singing at Springfield, Ala. on Sunday. __ Mr. and Mrs. Grady Sheppard and family of Rock Mills, Ala., and Mrs. Tom Sheppard and a freind of Roanoke, Ala., spent the weekend with Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Sheppard. __ CENTRALHATCHEE News Mr. and Mrs. Homer White visited their children in Bremen on Monday. Mr. and Mrs. Homer White Jr. have announced the birth of a baby boy. __ Mr. and Mrs. Cliff Dukes spent Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Heard Thompson of Franklin. __ Mr. Hollis Wortham continues very ill at Lawson General Hospital in Atlanta. We wish him a speedy recovery. __ Mrs. Aubrey Masdon and daughter of Hogansville are spending several days with her father Mr. Charlie Coleman and brother. Also, Miss Geneva Coleman of Atlanta is spending her vacation with her father Mr. Coleman and brothers. __ Mr. and Mrs. Johnnie Colley and Mr. and Mrs. Al Adams and Miss Marthe Bennie Hardy of Atlanta visited their mother, Mrs. Laura Hardy on Sunday. __ Mr. and Mrs. J.A. Hollis continues very ill but we wish him a speedy recovery. __ Mr. and Mrs. Lanier Mullis were honored with a birthday party last Friday night at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Sherman Eley. This party was given by Mrs. Netsie Eley and Mrs. Minnie Cartwright. Merrell is spending a few days with her granddaughter Mrs. Jennie Whitworth and family of near Austell. __ Mr. and Mrs. Rufus McWhorter of Centralhatchee spent Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. H.B. Hyatt. __ EPHESUS News Mrs. Bill Eley was honored at a very delightful birthday dinner Sunday at the home of her daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Herrin Loftin. At noon a very delicious lunch was spread out in the yard. All her children being present except a daughter, Mrs. Floria Staples, absent due to illness. Most of her grandchildren and a number of other relatives and friends were present to enjoy the occasion. The honoree received many nice gifts. The writer received a very delicious tray, thanks much to the Eley family. __ Mrs. Lizzie Holcombe was the honoree at another birthday party gathering on Sunday, down on the Barr farm. This is a very lovely place for such an occasion. Most of the children and grandchildren with other relatives and friends were present for the joyful reunion. Mrs. Holcombe received a number of nice gifts. The writer received a tray of good eats. Thanks much to the Holcombe and Rogers family. __ Mr. I.B. Daniel attended the Grand Lodge Convention of the Masons in Macon on Tuesday and Wednesday. __ Mrs. A.W. Dukes of Roanoke is spending awhile with her daughter Mr. and Mrs. L.M. Daniel. __ MT. PLEASANT News, by Susie Middlebrooks Mrs. Willie Lee Nelms with Durward and wife visited Mrs. Jack Pike in Rock Mills last Sunday. __ Harold Durwood adn Douglas Nelms better known as Jet, have bought a saw mill and moved down near Hillcrest. They are doing a rushing business. __ We welcome Mrs. Alma Cavender and children who have just moved into our community. __ We are so sorry to hear of our good friend, Mrs. W.P. Cumbie passing away. She was only two month older than I am. We extend to her brothers and other relatives our sympathy. __ Mrs. Florence Kitchens had five of her married daughters and most of her grandchildren to spend the day with her last Sunday. They were from Chipley, LaGrange, Hogansville and Atlanta, GA. __ Well, I understand that they have carried Mr. Luther Walton to a hospital in Atlanta to be treated for cancer. __ We are sorry to say that Mrs. Newt Kirk has been confined to her bed for the past two weeks. Theo Arnett is staying with them. The Kirks live near Liberty Hill. We wish her a speedy recovery. __ SIMPSON Community News Sorry to say Mrs. Bob Levens continues ill.
