W.T. SHEETS, AGE 69, BURIED SATURDAY Mr. W.T. Sheets, age 69, passed away at his home at Frolona on November 25th. He has been a member at Red Oak C.M. Church for many years. He was a consecrated christian, a loving husband and father and will be greatly missed by all. Funeral services were held at Red Oak Methodist Church Saturday evening with the Rev. L.J. Talley and Rev. Chester Freeman and Rev. W.C. Harris and a brother Rev. O.S. Sheets officiating. Pallbearers were Maylon and James Phillips, Hershel and Eugene Sheets, and Burie and Vineyard Bailey. He is survived by his wife, two daughters, Mrs. Clara Phillips and Mrs. Idie Phillips of Frolona, GA; four sons, Mr. Arzie Sheets, Mr. Harvey Sheets, Mr. Corlis Sheets of LaGrange GA; and nine grandchildren and two great grandchildren. He was married to Miss Emmmie Cosper, both of Heard County. Lewis and Lipford were in charge of arrangements. Bonnie Noles ___ MRS. R.L. MERRILL STRUCK BY HIT AND RUN DRIVER Mrs. R.L. Merrill suffered a broken leg and other lacerations when she was struck by a hit and run driver about dark at Centralhatchee on Tuesday. She is at the Tanner Memorial Hospital in Carrollton. Sheriff Bledsoe and State Patrol are investigating the accident. __ MERLIN ROGERS, 27, BURIED SUNDAY Our community received one of its worst shocks Friday, November 25th when news was spread that Mr. Merlin Rogers, age 27, had passed on the the great beyond, after a sudden illness at the Bowdon Hospital. The entire community and county was saddened to hear of his early passing, because Merlin was everyone's friend, whom he came in contact with. I never knew a better neighbor and a bigger hearted boy than Merlin, he had great sympathy for the sick and afflicted of our community. Always willing to lend a helping hand. Just why he was called in the bloom of life it is hard to understand. He leaves to mourn his passing a loving companion, the former Myrtis Glenn Coefield of Lineville, Ala.; his mother Mrs. W.L. Rogers, four brothers and two sisters. Our heartfelt sympathy goes out to each member of his family. Funeral services were conducted on Sunday afternoon at Ephesus Church by Rev. Willie Harris, when Ephesus witnessed one of its largest crowds in history. So, Merlin's friends were numbered by his acquaintances in life. Beulah Daniel __ MT. PLEASANT News The many friends of Mrs. Guinn Harris will be sorry to know she was operated on for appendicitis at the Franklin Hospital. We wish her a speedy recovery. __ Jessie Matthews of near Akron, Ohio spent several days back home. This is the first time he has been back in Heard County in seven years. He says he has two little girls in school and he and his wife are the proud parents of four children. __ EPHESUS News The friends of Mr. Tully McClendon, formerly of this community, were saddened to learn of his death, which occurred November 27th at Cullman, Alabama. The entire family has our sympathy. __ Mrs. A.W. Dukes has returned to her home in Roanoke, slightly improved after a severe attack of illness, at the home of her daughter, Mr. and Mrs. L.M. Daniel. __ Sorry to say Mr. J.B. Hammonds isn't doing well at this writing. __ Friends of Mr. and Mrs. Clint Runnels wish to sympathize with them in the death of their father, Mr. Monroe Runnels. __ NEWSPAPER issue of Friday, December 16, 1949 MRS. SALLY EADY, 79, DROWNED MONDAY EVENING Mrs. Sally Eady, age 79, prominent Heard County citizen was drowned late Monday evening while going fishing. She slipped and fell head first into a branch where it emptied into the Chattahoocnee River a short distance from Franklin, Sheriff Virgil Bledsoe reported. Sheriff Bledsoe called a coroner's jury and a verdict of death by drowning was reported. Mrs. Eady was a lifelong resident of Heard County and has a host of friends to mourn thepassing of this truly good woman. Funeral service were held at the Franklin Baptist Church, Wednesday, with the Rev. J.C. Adams and J.C. Sims officiating. Mrs. Eady is survived by one brother, Mr. Jimmie Brittain, several nieces and nephews, all of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Lewis & Lipford were in charge of arrangements. ___ CARD OF THANKS I wish to express with deepest gratitude the kindness, wonderful words and the floral offerings, during the death of our dear husband and father. May god's richest blessings be with you all. Mrs. Johnnie Pike and children. ___ MRS. ELLA KIRK, AGE 51, BURIED AT MT. PLEASANT Mrs. Ella Kirk, age 51, passed away Tuesday. She has been in declining health for the past two years. Mrs. Kirk was a member of Canan Primitive Baptist Church. She has many friends to mourn her passing. Funeral services were conducted by Elder Hawkins, Tuesday afternoon at the Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church. Interment was in the Liberty Hill Cemetery. Lewis & Lipford were in charge of arrangements. __ MT. PLEASANT News, by Mrs. Susie Middlebrooks Mr. and Mrs. Tilman Cooley and children of New Jersey spent the past several days with his Uncle Linton Cooley and attended preaching here on Sunday. __ We are sorry to say Mrs. Sallie Harris is sick. Her many friends wish her a speedy recovery. __ Bob Nelms and family have moved back from Louisville, Kentucky. Bob has a job doing carpenter work. We welcome them back home. __ EPHESUS News, by Beulah Daniel Of interest to their wide circle of friends is the marriage of Mrs. Mina Kelley to Mr. Jim Prince, which occurred Sunday December 11th. __ Friends of Mr. Alton Jackson of Battey State Hospital in Rome will be interested in knowing that he will spend a twelve day visit with his wife at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. W.W.
