AND MRS. GRESHAM MOVE TO ROANOKE FROM HEARD COUNTY, GEORGIA Many of the older residents of Roanoke are much interested to learn that Mr. and Mrs. J.L. Gresham moved last Wednesday to Roanoke. They are making their home with their daughter Mrs. Joe Allen and her husband who are now living in east Roanoke. Mr. and Mrs. Gresham lived in Roanoke over forty years ago. Before and since that time Heard County, Georgia has been their home. An item of particular interest in the case of Mr. Gresham is that he was the first superintendant of the Methodist Sunday school in this place. He was elected 42 years ago, a few weeks before he moved to Roanoke, as it was known that he was coming. The town was very small then and the school was likewise weak. Mr. Gresham served two years and was succeeded by Mr. J.C. Hornsby who served 35 years. Mr. L.M. Stevenson was then elected and has served five years. So, in the 42 years of the existence of the school, which has had a steady growth, there have been but three superintendants. They were all present at the session of the school last Sunday and the school had the pleasure of seeing and hearing the gentlemen who first guided its destinies.
