Col. Oliver of Franklin had his leg amputated. The operation was performed 
by Dr. Heflin on the upper third of the thigh.

Benjamin Oliver of Franklin is dead. He was one of the oldest citizens of 
Heard county. He represented that county in the Legislature in 1859. He had 
recently had a leg amputated on account of white swelling and from the 
effects of this, he died.
