Alabama NEWSPAPER OBITUARY from The Cleburne News, a newspaper published in Heflin, Cleburne County, Alabama NEWSPAPER issue of July 23, 1925 DEATH of W.A. RIDLEY On Monday morning, July 6th, Mr. Warren Ridley, a prominent and highly respected christian gentleman, a pioneer citizen of Heard County, Georgia, left home on horseback to look after farming interests a few miles away. When he failed to return at noon as expected and as was his custom, some of his family and friends made searches for and found him on the plantation he had visited in the morning near a spring, where it was thought he dismounted to get a drink of water and where death came, without the trace of a struggle. Those of the family surviving with whom we are acquainted are: Mrs. W.A. Ridley, his companion Mrs. Bob Jones of Whitesburg, GA, the only daughter Four sons: Dr. Frank Ridley of Tampa, Fla Alus Ridley of LaGrange, GA Claude and Grady Ridley of Heard County, GA One brother, Will Ridley of Heard County, GA Sisters are: Mrs. T.H. Shackleford of Heflin, Ala Mrs. Thos J. Lovvorn, Newell, Ala And one sister in Tennessee who was not present Funeral services were conducted on Wednesday afternoon at the Ridley home by Rev. Henry of Franklin, GA, reading the scripture lesson, followed by Dr. Tunhill of LaGrange, GA, delivering the sermon, protraying the wonderful provisions of the master in this world for a christian citizenship by his people, and how the deceased had so faithfully filled his mission in the world. Then he discussed the citizenship of the Heavenly Kingdom which follows a life on earth so faithfully spent. The body was laid to rest on a mound near the home in the family cemetery in the presence of sorrowing relatives, friends and a large concourse of people from Heard and surrounding counties, who mourn his departure, but not as those who have no hope.
