You are hereby Authorized to join J.W. DAVIS and Sarah ROOKS in the Holy State 
of Matrimony, assording to the Constitution and laws of this State, and for so 
doing this shall be your license; and you are hereby required to return this 
License to me, with your certificate hereon of the fact and date of the 
marriage,

Joseph 'Joe' Wheeler Davis, born February 23, 1871, Georgia, died May 29, 
1937, married twice.  

He first married Carrie L. THOMPSON, born 7 Mar 1876, GMD 62, Black Ankle, 
Heard County, Georgia, daughter of Greene Chestley THOMPSON, 1848-1925, and 
his first wife, Mary Frances MANN, 1840-1913.  Carrie L. THOMPSON DAVIS died 
April 5, 1909, and she is buried in Yellow Dirt Church Cemetery, Heard County, 
Georgia, USA.  Carrie L. THOMPSON DAVIS was the granddaughter of Rev. Chestley 
THOMPSON, born circa 1804, Georgia, and his wife, Mary Ann 'Polly' HUDGENS, 
born circa 1813, Georgia, and the great granddaughter of Henry THOMPSON, died 
circa 1817, Jasper County, Georgia, USA, and his wife, Hannah 
[GRIFFITH/GRIFFYTH/GRIFFIN] THOMPSON, died after 1840.  Henry THOMPSON and 
Hannah GRIFFITH/GRIFFYTH/GRIFFIN are believed to have married circa 1797, 
Columbia County, Georgia, USA.

Joseph 'Joe' Wheeler DAVIS married second, December 22, 1912, Heard County, 
Georgia, USA, Sarah 'Sallie' L. ROOKS, born January 10, 1889; she died July 
20, 1971 and is buried next to her husband, Joseph 'Joe' Wheeler DAVIS, in 
Yellow Dirt Church Cemetery, Heard County, Georgia, USA.
