Valentine of Roswell, Georgia: Jesse BENTLEY was born in 1748 in , North Carolina. He died on May 23, 1836 in , Henry Co., Georgia. He was buried at his Homeplace, Henry Co., Georgia. Revolutionary War Soldier. Entered the army about 1767, at the age of 18. He was at the siege of Savannah and Augusta, and served throughout the war, principally fighting against the indians. He was present at the hanging of the noted Tories, Luny and Murphy on the banks of the Oconee River. In her Pension Application, Mary Scott Bentley stated that she was 78 years old in 1845. She said that she was married to Jesse Bentley on October 5, 1784 in Wilkes County, Georgia by Rev. Benjamin Catching. According to the pension application, Jesse Bentley's house burned to the ground in 1805 and he lost everything. They did save the family bible, however. The family record pages were torn out and sent in with the pension application. These pages are still intact in the files at the National Archives and are part of the pension file. He was married to Mary SCOTT (daughter of John SCOTT and Margaret ) on October 5, 1784 in , Wilkes Co., Georgia. Mary SCOTT was born on September 11, 1767 in , Scotland. She died about 1860 in , Henry Co., Georgia.
