Sanders http://www.genrecords.net/emailregistry/vols/00034.html#0008338 Introduction: In 1851, the "village" of Hampton was originally known as Bear Creek Station. The War Between the States had leveled much of the town, and even adequate schooling took 20 years to rebuild. The community was very small consisting of a few houses and stores. Residents of the village included individuals below. This cemetery is located in the heart of Hampton on Main Street, directly across from Berea Cemetery. The church itself is no longer there, with the Masonic Lodge maintaining the property. Several of the older headstones are cracked in half sitting against something or are unreadable due to exposure. This compiler notes derivatives of names (i.e. Barnett/Barnette and Derick/Derrick). Historic Lebanon Church, organized in 1824, was deeded to Hampton Masonic Lodge No. 70, in August 1968. The church deeded the property to the Lodge because the upkeep of the facility had fallen into the hands of only three women, one of whom was Mrs. Fred LeGuin. The church was razed and a new Lodge building was erected on this site. Family Backgrounds: Derrick: J.W. Derrick (Derick) was part of the Henry County Calvary (Co. A, 44th Georgia Regiment).
