John L. Tye came down from Atlanta and spent last Monday. ~Toy Turner came down from Atlanta Sunday and spent the day with friends. ~Mayor J. B. Dickson has moved into his handsome new residence opposite Mr. B. B. Carmichael’s. ~Miss Lila Daniel left last Friday for Albany, where she will spend two months visiting relatives. ~Mrs. Henry Hunter of Atlanta and Mrs. Pierce of Hampton visited Mrs. T. L. Sutton last week. ~Miss Pauline Turner entertained a few of her friends at the residence of her father last Monday night. ~Tax Collector Harper publishes notice of his last round in this issue. Read it and lookout for him. ~Mrs. W. N. Everitt of Conyers spent several days in the city last week, the guest of Mrs. J. J. Johnson. ~Raleigh Harper left Monday for Jackson, where he has accepted his former position as foreman of the Argus. ~Miss Tiny Maxwell returned home last Saturday from Atlanta, where she has been visiting her sister, Mrs. G. D. Kitchens. ~Your uncle Billie Bryan says they are going to send for McKinley and have him to come down and contest Henry County. ~Mrs. Nannie Beeland has returned home to Macon, after a week’s visit to her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Carmichael, near the city. ~Messrs. T. L. Sutton, T. A. Sloan, W. A. Harper and George Turner, took in the Journal election returns in Atlanta Tuesday night. ~Mr. and Mrs. Thos. D. Stewart went to Gainesville Monday, where they carried their little daughter, Mary Cliff, for medical treatment. ~Miss Claude McDonald left Tuesday for Griffin, to be present at the marriage of Miss Maude Flynt to Mr. J. R. Cole of Senoia Wednesday. ~We understand that Conductor Wood contemplates moving his family to McDonough, to occupy the place vacated by Mr. W. D. White. ~Paul Turner of Henry is one of the younger members of the house and he has qualifications for making a good working member. Jackson Argus. ~Mrs. G. D. Kitchens and baby, Marie, of Atlanta were in the city last Saturday, and Sunday visiting her parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Maxwell. ~Mr. and Mrs. Sprayberry of Stockbridge visited their little daughters here last Sunday and Monday, who are boarding with Sheriff Glass, and attending McDonough Institute. ~The George Schaefer residence at Hampton was offered at public sale last Tuesday, and went to Mr. Zach Peebles at $800. We understand Mr. Peebles will now move his family there. ~’Squire Joe Wright is increasing his visits to McDonough. We understand that he is playing a winning hand up there and when the boys “call” him they will find that he was playing no bluff. Jackson Argus. ~Mr. Wightman Bowden, son of Rev. J. M. Bowden, circulated among his McDonough friends this week. He came up from Jonesboro to be admitted to the bar at this term of court, together with several other young lawyers. ~Mr. Garnett Strobbar spent last Sunday in the city with his brother, Mr. Cecil Strobbar. He was in the big military parade at Governor Atkinson’s inauguration in Atlanta Saturday, and was on his way home to Savannah. ~Editor Fouche, of THE HENRY COUNTY WEEKLY, issued a special trade edition of his paper last Friday which was a credit to his ability as an all round newspaper man. In its columns many business houses were represented and altogether it was the best and largest issue that ever came from the office. Jackson Argus. ~Mr. and Mrs. George Calloway, of Alabama, arrived in the city last Monday to spend some time with their mother, Mrs. Calloway. This is the first visit Mr. Calloway has made to his old home in 20 years and there was much rejoicing in that household over the long absent relatives. Mr. Calloway is a brother of Mrs. Martha Varner, of this city and Mrs. Lucy Knott of Atlanta.
