Argus – Week of April 27, 1882 Murder on Christmas Night On Christmas night, 1880, a white man was found on the railroad track, near Hampton, terribly mangled by having been run over by the train. At the time it was supposed to have been an accident, but last week, a Negro on his death bed confessed to having murdered and robbed the man, and placed the body on the track to prevent suspicion.
