R. Thomas, an old citizen of Hampton, now of Griffin, was in the city one day last week. He will make his home in Jackson next year. ~Mr. Joseph Reagan, grandfather of the bride, and Miss Ellie Smith, cousin, came over from Conyers to attend the Turner-Reagan marriage. ~Mr. R. L. Jones, another prominent architect of Atlanta, was in the city Wednesday, for the purpose of bidding on Henry County’s new court house. ~Editor Perry Lee, of the Pike County Journal, and Editor Rose, of the Jackson Argus were in town Tuesday morning, watching McDonough grow. ~Representative Turner introduced the bill in the legislature last Tuesday changing the meeting of the fall term of Henry Superior court to the second Monday in November. ~Mr. Robert Howell of Toccoa came down Saturday and went out to Peachstone to spend Sunday with Mrs. Howell, who is visiting her parents, Col. and Mrs. C. T. Zachry. ~There are more prodigal sons than fatted calves these days, judging from the number of tramps on the road, feelingly remarks Uncle Jimmie Anderson, of the Covington Star. ~For sale at a bargain, good building lot containing one acre, just outside incorporation, between Mr. W. A. Simpson and Mr. W. J. Wilkins. Only $75. Apply to this office. ~Mr. Ben Neal has purchased the residence of Mr. Ed Knott now occupied by Mr. Henry Tolleson, and will move his family up from Molena in January. ~Mr. Bob Guest has accepted the place of Mr. Tom Bailey, as section master, and moved his family to Greenwood a few weeks ago. His friends welcome him back to old Henry. ~Mr. D. J. Sanders has purchased the pretty lot of Mrs. A. C. Nolan, between Mr. Woodruff and Mrs. Johnson’s, and will build there, instead of on the other street, as we reported last week. ~Miss Annie Reese left last Tuesday for Marshallville, to attend the marriage of her sister, Miss Pearlie Reese to Mr. Samuel Rumph of Marshallville on Wednesday the 18th. Miss Annie returned to McDonough last night. ~Circulars have been liberally distributed announcing the oyster supper tonight, at the residence of Mr. J. P. Copeland, for the benefit of the Ladies Aid Society of the Baptist Church. It will be a pleasant occasion, and everybody is cordially invited. ~The oyster supper by the ladies of the Presbyterian Church, at the residence of Capt. and Mrs. W. C. Sloan last Friday night, was well attended, as well as highly enjoyed by those present. About fifteen dollars ,we learn, was added to the parsonage building fund. ~The mass meeting last Saturday, for selecting delegates to the nominating convention for judges, was very well attended, under the circumstances. Col. G. W. Bryan, chairman of the executive committee, presided, and Prof Lawrence Duffey acted as secretary. Mr. W. S. Shell of Hampton, MR. J. W. Hightower of Stockbridge, and Cols. J. F. Wall and Ed Stephens of McDonough were elected delegates.
