The Henry County Weekly January 15, 1897
     McDonough’s municipal election was held Wednesday, and although it seemed 
that no one could be prevailed upon to run for mayor up to the day before, at 
the last moment as many as four candidates had been put forward by friends for 
that office.
     Among these were Col. E. A. Stephens, Messrs. C. R. Walker, L. A. Turner 
and T. L. Sutton. Col. Stephens declined to let his name be used and Mr. Turner 
was also not a candidate, being out of town and knowing nothing of it.
     The election was quiet as expected, and resulted as follows:
For Mayor- T. L. Sutton
Councilmen- W. A. Simpson, J. F. M. Fields, E. M. Copeland, Joel Bankston, A. 
C. Sowell, W. R. Rivers.
