M. Copeland at his home on Macon St. and thirty three guests were invited to participate in the celebration. The spacious rooms were decorated with handsome pot plants, bowls of narcissi and roses. The dining room, chief scene of festivities, was in yellow. Small tables with their lovely lace covers held as their center decorations, groups of yellow lighted tapers embedded in masses of asparagus fern. These fifty tapers shed their soft radiance over the festal board on which was placed bowls of salted nuts and yellow mints. During the dinner hour, Mr. George Alexander, toastmaster, with many happy remarks called upon various friends to pay a little tribute of friendly regard to the honoree. This came as a complete surprise to the host. Dr. W. W. Arnold spoke of him as the “Church Member.” Rev. L. D. King, who could not be present, sent a letter of congratulation and tribute to this “Brother-in-law of Presbyterians. Mr. J. E. Hooten spoke of him as “The Citizen,” Mr. John Rodgers as “The Business Associate.” Mr. H. J. Copeland recounted some incidents of “Childhood Days,” Mr. A. N. Brown recalled “School Days” of long ago. Prof. H. K. Adams spoke of him as “S. S. Superintendent,” and Col. R. O. Jackson as “Friend.” Song-Home, Sweet Home. A humorous bit of advice was given by Mr. J. B. Dickson on “Danger Signals for the man of Fifty.” Mrs. E. M. Copeland related a rich “Experience.” Mrs. Whit Russell gave a beautiful rendition of “That Old Sweetheart of Mine.” On Sunday morning the McDonough Baptist Sunday School paid a tribute of love to their Superintendent, Mr. E. M. Copeland, by presenting to him a handsome gold match and chain. Little Dot Rodgers made a beautiful presentation speech, congratulating him on reaching the fiftieth mile post and closing with a wish for many more happy years, but that he must never grow old.
