The Henry County Weekly,  July 6, 1928 July 6, 1928
     I am a candidate for the 71st Congress subject to the Democratic Primary 
on September 12, 1928.
     As the people of the District have been unusually kind to me, I wish it 
were possible for me to meet each of the voters of the County, and personally 
thank them for their unusual courtesy and support.
     It gratifies me to know that the date for filing has passed and no one 
filed to oppose me in the primary.
     From the day that I took the oath of office at the opening of the 69th 
Congress, I have given the people of my district my best efforts and as long as 
I am the Representative from the Sixth District I pledge to the people that I 
will never intentionally betray them in the slightest. I would rather have the 
sincere friendship, sympathy and confidence of the people of my district than 
to possess all the gold of the world.
