Mr. Maddocks was born March 20, 1950, in Kings County, N.Y., the son of the late Anna Owens and Milton Maddocks. He had retired with the New York City Board of Education, was a member of Kings County Moose Lodge 168 and ABATE. She was the loving wife to Joe for 28 years. Virginia worked for many years at the First Union Bank in Hapeville. She was very active in her children's school and sports, but in recent years had been limited due to declining health. She will be missed by many. (770) 210-2700. 8/7/2002 Elsie Churchill CLINKENBEARD, age 97, was born to Walter A. and Gepha J. Churchill Feb. 16, 1905, in Shickley, Neb., and went home to be with the Lord Monday, Aug. 5, 2002. She lived independently in Akron, Ohio, until the age of 91. She spent the last six years living in McDonough with her granddaughter. She attended rural schools near Carelton and Geneva, Neb., until the family moved to Geneva upon entering the fourth grade. She continued her education, graduating with the class of 1925. She attended Kearney State College, and later married James E. Scott. Beverly Ann was born of this union. She then married Earl Clinkenbeard, who is deceased. Elsie and her daughter Beverly moved to Akron, Ohio, in 1945, where she was employed for 32 years before retiring in 1970. Elsie was a regular member of the Christian Church and was baptized at an early age. She attended church regularly until her health no longer permitted it. Elsie was a member of the Degree of Honor Protective Association of Geneva, and the Royal Neighbors of Akron, and remained members of both until her passing. Her daughter, Beverly Blosser, preceded her in death June 27, 1990. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 10, at Billows Funeral Home with the Rev. William Warner officiating. Interment will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park. (770) 478-7211. 8/19/2002 There are no obituaries today August 20, 2002 Retired Mr. Jack Lee YANCEY, age 78, of McDonough passed away Sunday, Aug. 18, 2002, at the Henry Medical Center. Mr. Yancey was born June 20, 1924, in Sturgis, Mich., to the late John Hampton Yancey and the late Violet Ruth Jansen Yancey. His grandson, John Douglas Greenwalt, preceded him in death. Mr. Yancey graduated from Sturgis High School in 1942, and volunteered for the Army Air Corps in 1943, while attending the University of Michigan, where he played in the marching band. He was promoted to first lieutenant at 19 while at Yale University before being stationed at Lowery Air Force Base in Denver, Colo., with later duty assignments in Florida and Utah. Later he served in the Air Force Reserves. He returned to Sturgis and worked for the Kirsch Co., where he met and married the former Jean Stevenson of White Pigeon, Mich., in 1947. They divorced in 1979. After World War II he studied at Northrup Engineering in California before returning to Michigan, where he farmed and co-owned the Red McGowan Appliance Store in White Pigeon. In 1962, he moved to Fort Collins, Colo., where he worked for the U.S. Postal Service until his retirement in 1988. In 1989, he married Allene Marie Whittig Yancey in Kansas City, Mo. In 1996, they moved to McDonough, where he was a member of the American Legion and attended Lord of Life Lutheran Church in Stockbridge. Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 23, at Lord of Life Lutheran Church with Pastor Kent Fuqua officiating. Military interment services will follow at 2 p.m. in Eastlawn Memorial Gardens. August 27, 2002 David Jinks FARGASON, 90, of Macon died Friday, Aug. 23, 2002, at his residence. Mr. Fargason was born in McDonough, son of the late Charles Campbell Fargason and Maude Jenkins Fargason. He attended Young Harris College and was a graduate of Georgia Tech, with a degree in ceramic engineering. He retired from Georgia Kaolin Co. as plant superintendent after 41 years of service. He was a member of Cherokee Heights United Methodist Church, where he had been active in the past, serving as the president of the Men's Bible Class, a member of the Board of Stewards, a member of the Council on Ministries, a member of the Finance Committee, and a member of the Pastor-Parrish Committee. For many years he served as a delegate from the church to the annual conference. He was also a member of the XYZ group. He was currently a member of the Durham-Penland Sunday School Class, where he served as treasurer. Mr. Fargason was a past chairman of the Twiggs County Board of Education, where he served for 21 years. He was one of the founders of the Twiggs County Development Corp. A memorial service was held at 3 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 25, at Macon Memorial Park Funeral Home. The burial was private. The Rev. Dan Wilson and the Rev. John Haney officiated.
