Tuesday, May 6, 2003 Mr. John Kenneth O'QUINN, 71, of Lithonia, Ga., died May 4, 2003, at DeKalb Medical Center. Mr. O'Quinn was born June 3, 1931, in Cook County, Ga., the son of the late Emma Ruth Cannon and John Briggs O'Quinn. HE SERVED HIS COUNTRY IN THE U.S. NAVY IN THE KOREAN CONFLICT and was retired as an electronics sales engineer. She was born Oct. 7, 1936, in Wheeler County to the late James Olis and Annie Mae Stuckey Stonecypher and was a former resident of South Bend, Ind. Mrs. Shaw was a 1954 graduate of Henry County High School and after her children finished their educations, she returned to college and received her degree in business administration from Indiana University in South Bend. An Oxford resident since 1996, Mrs. Shaw was a member of Oxford Baptist Church, the Joy Sunday School class and the church choir. She was a devoted wife and mother. Survivors include her husband, Gray A. May 8, 2003 Raymond Lambert Sr. Raymond Paul Lambert Sr., age 96, died of cardiac arrest at his home on Tuesday, May 6, 2003. He was born Feb. 14, 1907 in Maryville, Tenn. He was the last survivor of 15 children. He learned the value of hard work at a young age, working for the family sawmill. He and his brothers founded Lambert Brothers Inc., quarrying rock by hand and mule-drawn wagons, to construct such projects as the Blue Ridge Parkway, St. Lawrence Seaway, Norris Dam and the Oak Ridge project. In the 1930s, he invented and patented the Lambert Automatic Skip now known as the "Dempster Dumpster." He proudly served in the European theater of World War II as a 310th combat engineer, known as "Pop" by many young soldiers. He returned to Lambert Brothers relocating to the Stockbridge quarry in Henry County, Georgia. Lambert Brothers Inc. eventually merged into Vulcan Materials Company, a Fortune 500 company, in 1957 from which he retired in the 1970s. Mr. Lambert was a member of Trinity Presbyterian Church, a 32nd degree Mason, Young Harris College Board of Trustees, Capital City Club and former director of Trust Company Bank of Henry County and the President's Council of Oglethorpe University. Surviving are his loving wife, Lorraine Inman Lambert, daughter and son-in-law, Deanne and Perry Ellison of Atlanta; son and daughter-in-law, Ray and Mary Lynn Lambert and numerous nieces and nephews. Basler is survived by many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. She was of the Baptist faith. She took great pleasure in her family and wide circle of friends. She enjoyed a close relationship with her entire family. Her delight was all aspects of rearing children, continuing to the lives of the next generations. She grew up in Petros, Tenn., and Wartburg, Tenn., and spent most of her adult life in Knoxville, Tenn. She as postmistress at the University of Tennessee Knoxville when the UTK Post Office was in South College near Ayes Hall on "The Hill" and then at the Carolyn Brown Student Center on the UTK campus, before moving with her family to Atlanta in 1967. In Atlanta she worked for Dr. Sheldon Soble, podiatrist, and Dr. G.T. Cullens, dentist, before her retirement. In addition, she maintained close friendships with special friends Marty Pressley and Peggy Duncan (recently deceased). The family will receive friend at Horis A. She served until Oct. 31, 1969, with distinction, and received many awards for her accomplishments. Among these were the Georgia Home Economics Association Silver Circle Award, Certificate of Distinguished Service from the Georgia and National Home Demonstration Agents Association, 25- and 35-year pins from the U.S. Department of Agriculture, and a diamond pin from the Coweta County Board of Education. Since 1969, the Margaret F. Askew Award has been given annually to the most outstanding Junior 4-H girl and boy member in Coweta County. She wrote the history of Cooperative Extension Work in Coweta County for "A History of Coweta County, Georgia" (1988). She became a member of the Alpha Beta Chapter of Epsilon Sigma Phi, a national honorary extension society, in 1944. Askew was an active member of the First United Methodist Church of Newnan, the Veatch-Nixon Fellowship Class (which she helped to organize) and the Pilot Club. Mrs. Cotter was a native of Calera, Ala., but made her home in Milledgeville for many years. Her husband, Dr. David Cotter, preceded her in death. She was a graduate of the University of Alabama, a former teacher with the Baldwin County Board of Education, where she retired in 1992 with 32 years of service. She was born Nov. 17, 1918, in Henry County, daughter of the late Annie Brannan and Robert Tyre Rowan. Martha Margaret Fargason ASKEW, 93, widow of Walter Warren Askew, passed away in Macon on Sunday, May 18, 2003, following a brief illness. Private family burial will be in Oakhill Cemetery. She graduated from GSCW (now Georgia College and State University) with a degree in vocational home economics in 1933. On July 9, 1934, she came to Coweta County as home demonstration agent (later called extension home economist). She served until Oct. 31, 1969, with distinction, and received many awards for her accomplishments. Among these were the Georgia Home Economics Association Silver Circle Award, Certificate of Distinguished Service from the Georgia and National Home Demonstration Agents Association, 25- and 35-year pins from the U.S. Department of Agriculture, and a diamond pin from the Coweta County Board of Education. Since 1969, the Margaret F. Askew Award has been given annually to the most outstanding Junior 4-H girl and boy member in Coweta County. She wrote the history of Cooperative Extension Work in Coweta County for "A History of Coweta County, Georgia" (1988). She became a member of the Alpha Beta Chapter of Epsilon Sigma Phi, a national honorary extension society, in 1944. Askew was an active member of the First United Methodist Church of Newnan, the Veatch-Nixon Fellowship Class (which she helped to organize) and the Pilot Club. She was known for baking cheese straws and cakes that she enjoyed giving to family and friends. She was preceded in death by David J. Fargason, her brother. She is survived by Anne F. (Robert) Gardner, her sister, Macon; Sally Fargason, her sister-in-law, Macon; five nieces and nephews, Peggie (Richard) Epps, Gray, Charles (Gail) Fargason, Duluth, Susan (Frank) Broome, Macon, David (Judy) Gardner, Oakland, Calif., and Betty (Donnie) Brooks, Gordon; four great-nieces and four great-nephews, some of whom knew her as GrandMargaret; and many students and friends by whom she was affectionately called Miss Margaret.
