Cole was born July 6, 1940, in Fulton County to the late Tim Reagan and the late Bonnie Mewborn Reagan. She was a member of the McDonough Christian Church and served as a volunteer for the Atlanta Mission, the Salvation Army and Children Shelter. She retired in 2002 from the office of Dr. Terry J. Orme as the office manager. Survivors include her children, Frank and Ellen McCoy of McDonough, David and Denise McCoy and Jill Boling, all of Stockbridge; 11 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Mrs. Jones was born Sept. 24, 1923, in Butts County, but grew up in Hampton. She was the daughter of the late William Whitsel Fears and the late Bessie Price Fears. She was a lifelong active member of the First Christian Church. She was a teacher for 29 years, teaching third and fifth graders, and was a former Spalding County Teacher of the Year. He had experienced declining health for several years, but his condition worsened in recent days. He was a member of McDonough First United Methodist Church for more than 51 years, during which time he served in numbers of principal offices. Mr. Polk was among Henry County's most loved citizens, and the county courthouse annex is the C.O. Polk Building. He was a member of the United States peacetime army at the outbreak of World War II, and saw duty at Pearl Harbor on Dec. 7, 1941. All of his four years of military service were overseas, in Hawaii, Christmas Island, and New Guinea, where he was awarded the Infantry Combat Medal. Judge Polk never lost an election, and only in the first did he have opposition. He retired in 1980, after 16 years as Probate Judge. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. today, Saturday, Sept. 6 at McDonough First United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Mac Riley and Dr. C.R. Hill officiating. Interment will follow at the McDonough City Cemetery. She used her considerable talent as a cook to feed many families at the church and to provide food for the Homeless Shelter to which they ministered. Mr. Powell served his country in the U.S. Air Force, was an avid reader, an accomplished poet, loved taking walks on the beach and drawing. Graveside funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 27 at Resthaven Cemetery in Decatur WITH MILITARY HONORS. The Rev. Charles Huggins will officiate. Survivors include his children, Terrie and Ronnie Campbell of Stockbridge, Debbie and Bob Weichel of Covington, Christie Huggins of McDonough, and Bobby and Shanna Powell of Covington; eight grandchildren; several nephews.
