She was born Sept. 30, 1922, in Fulton County, daughter of the late Ruby Allingham and P.C. Nash. Mrs. McCollum was a member of Sharon Baptist Church, where she had been very active as a Sunday school teacher, GA's and Act Teens leader and a member of the WMU. She was a member of the Hapeville Chapter of the Eastern Star and had retired from the credit department of Sears with more than 37 years of service. John Wesley Sorrow Sr., 84, of McDonough died Tuesday, Dec. 30, 2003, at Henry Medical Center. The Rev. Sorrow was born Sept. 28, 1919, in Lincoln County, Ga., son of the late Martha Clark and George Watson Sorrow. He was the pastor at Calvary Temple Holiness Church in Atlanta. The Rev. Sorrow had been a lifetime minister preaching the Gospel. He was a devoted minister, husband, father, grandfather and brother. BLECKLEY John Marcus Bleckley, 85, of McDonough, Ga., died Dec. 30, 2003, at VA Hospital. He was born May 21, 1918, in Persimmon, Ga. (Rayburn County), the son of the late Zoiata Justice and Thomas Harry Bleckley. Mr. Bleckley was a member of Druid Hills Baptist Church, DeKalb County Masonic Lodge, where in 1967 he was awarded the High Priest honors. Tuesday, January 6, 2004 KIMBELL Marion Joel Kimbell, a former resident of Henry County, died in late October, 2003, at the age of 80. He had been a resident of Hayward, Calif. for 45 years and had retired from Kaiser Engineers and Bechtel, Inc. He was preceded in death by his wife of 49 years, Juliann. Mr. Kimbell grew up on a cotton farm on Hampton Road with his two brothers. His family ran a cotton gin close to the railroad tracks and hauled the cotton out of the area. He went to school in McDonough and was longtime, childhood friends with "Doc" Rainer. When he returned to bury his wife ten years ago, he was able to reunite with many of his childhood friends. He would be joyed and honored that you come out and say your final goodbyes. Accomplishments included a BS Civil Eng., U. Houston 1949, MchE 1953, Registered Engineer, CA in five categories, nuclear, civil, chemical, piping & instrumentation. He helped build the first nuclear submarine. He served as Sgt. in the U. S. Army as a medic during WW II and was a member of Instrument Soc. Am., Moose Lodge, CV, Computer Club, Cal-State Hay, and Happy-go-Lucky Club. His hobbies included, inventor, coil collector, winemaker and connoisseur, rock hound, jewelry maker, real estate investor, hunter, gardener, world-wide traveler, teacher and gourmet cook. Survivors include daughters, Nancy Webster, Susan Kimbell and Candace Kimbell; adopted daughters, Kyle Vancil, Mary Santos; many other adopted children; grandsons, William Haag III and Shawn Kimbell; brother Charles Kimbell, sisters-in-law, Wanda Kimbell, Evelyn Kimbell, Joan Sanders & Sybil Scott; brothers-in-law; Jack Sanders, Don Derbes and Andy Smiechiuch; nieces, nephews and friends. MITCHELL Mr. W. Cameron "Cam" Mitchell, age 89, former businessman and civic leader, died of cardiac arrest at Henry Medical Center Sunday, Jan. 4, 2004. He was born June 22, 1914, in Birmingham, Ala. to Emma Brown and William Edward Mitchell. He was the last survivor of six children. He spent most of his growing up years in Atlanta, later graduating from Auburn University in Auburn, Ala. with a degree in Electrical Engineering. He attended Massachusetts Institute of Technology for post graduate work. He was president of Southern States, Inc. Hampton, Ga. and president of Dominion Cutout Limited, Toronto, Canada. He was a director of First National Bank of Griffin, Trust Company Bank of Henry County, Fulton Federal Savings and Loan Associates of Atlanta, Atlanta International Raceway of Hampton and founder of Financial Corporation, Tampa, Fla. He served as past president of Hampton Kiwanis Club and Past Governor of the Georgia district. Past president of Flint River Boy Scout Council and later treasurer of the Council. He holds the Silver Beaver and Silver Antelope awards. For 20 years he served on the Henry County School Board. He was Director-Chairman of Governmental Affairs Division and President of the State Chamber of Commerce, and also past president of the Henry County Chamber. He served as a member of the board of trustees of Clayton State Foundation for more than 10 years. He was Chairman and Trustee of Ga. Foundation of Independent Colleges and was made life time honoring trustee. He served on Board of Directors of Odessey Counciling Center in Henry County. He was instrumental in bringing United Way to Henry County in 1984, and served as first chairman of the advisory committee. In 1995, he was inducted into Atlanta Athletic Club Hall of Fame for more than 50 years of badminton. He was a winner of numerous tournament titles and more than 40 trophies n American Badminton Association. He was a trustee of the Mitchell Charitable Foundation. He and Marilyn, his wife of 19 years, traveled extensively and enjoyed life together. He was a loving, caring and generous husband. After a series of strokes and declining health he became a resident at Dogwood Forest at Eagles Landing. A memorial service will take place at 4 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 11 in the chapel of Haisten Funeral Home, with the Rev. Harold H. Thompson officiating. ENGLISH Lillie Lee (Billie) English, age 86, of McDonough, died Jan. 10, 2004. Born Aug. 21, 1917, to Cammie Emmit and Julia Brannan Craig, she was the second youngest of seven children and a life-long resident of Henry County, with the exception of a few years during the depression she spent working in Atlanta. There she met and married another Henry Countian, G. B. English, her life's partner for 42 years. A beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and homemaker extraordinaire, Billie reared two sons and taught them to love God and to honor His Word. A lifetime member of Bethany Baptist Church, Billie was born again at age 13 and baptized in a creek across the road. Over the years, she often taught children's Sunday School and served in the nursery. She also enjoyed the love and fellowship of the Gleaners Sunday School Class. All who knew her were attracted by her cheerful personality, kindness and compassion. Preceding her in death is her husband of 35 years, Bobby R. Wilder, husband of two years, Richard D. Bass, brother, David Chipman and granddaughter, Kayla Elizabeth Wilder. Ruth was a bookkeeper/accountant, and the last 15 years of her career she was employed at Dwarf House n Riverdale as a waitress. She demonstrated her love everyday, always putting herself last.
