March 5, 2004 JONES, CHARLOTTE MARIE GILBERT Mrs. Charlotte Marie Gilbert Jones, 70, of McDonough, died March 5, 2004, at Fayette Community Hospital. Jones was born September 3, 1933, in Grove Oak, Ala., the daughter of the late Indianna Maddox and George Gilbert. She was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church and a devoted homemaker, wife, mother and grandmother. She is survived by her husband of 48 years, Leonard H. Jones of McDonough; children Jimmy and Deborah Jones of Griffin, Brenda Jones Tullis of Forest Park, Mike and Cindy Jones of McDonough and Randy and Julia Jones of Fayetteville; siblings G.H. Gilbert of Fruithurst, Ala., Louise Tucker of Buchanan, Ga., Jimmie Williams of Tallapoosa, Ga., Audrey Frost of Tallapoosa, Ga., Wilma Frost of Chatsworth, Ga. and Bobbie Kilgore of Ft. Walton Beach, Fla.; 10 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. WEBB, HAROLD SHERMAN Harold Sherman Webb, age 87, of McDonough, died Friday, March 5, 2004. He served our country in the United States Air Force and was of the Baptist faith. March 7, 2004 Mr. William "Bill" Gregory Sr., age 62, of Griffin, went to be with the Lord Sunday, March 7, 2004. Mr. Gregory was born in Spalding County, son of the late Raze Deason Gregory and the late Louise Bradley Gregory. He was employed with the Henry County Board of Education as Maintenance Supervisor. He had been a member of the Vineyard Baptist Church for 30 years and attended the Men's Bible Class. Mr. Gregory loved to collect old cars and had his favorite 1993 Ford Mustang convertible. He was a long-time member of the Cabin Creek Golf Course. Mr. Gregory was preceded in death by his brother, Clarence M. Gregory. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. today, Tuesday, March 9 from the Warren Haisten Memorial Chapel, with the Rev. James Elliott, the Rev. George Pinion and the Rev. M.L. Powell officiating. March 8, 2004 REID, LUTHER E. Mr. Luther C. Reid, age 77, of Cleveland, died Monday, March 8, 2004, at a Private Health Care Center following an extended illness. Mr. Reid was born in Banks County, son of the late Dave and Minnie Brown Reid. He was retired from the U.S. Army, having served in World War II and the Korean Conflict. Mr. Reid lived in Ellenwood, Ga. since 1964, before moving to Cleveland a few months ago. He was preceded in death by brothers, Major Reid, Pledger Reid, and Ed Reid, and sisters Annie Mac Carlan and Oma Neal Suggs. Graveside services took place at 3 p.m. Wednesday, March 10 at Mt. Carmel Baptist Church Cemetery in Lula. March 9, 2004 LANGLEY, JEAN H. Mrs. Jean H. Langley, 59, of Stockbridge, died March 9, 2004. STEPHENSON, CHARLIE RAY Mr. Charlie Ray Stephenson, age 74, of McDonough, passed away Tuesday, March 9, 2004, at the Henry Medical Center. Mr. Stephenson was born Aug. 2, 1929, in Franklin County, Ga. to the late Irene Odessa Bailey and the late Henry Keeling Stephenson. He was a member of the Flippen United Methodist Church, the United Methodist Men and the American Legion. He served his country in the U.S. Navy during Vietnam and Korea. He retired after 20 years as a Seabee, also serving in the South Pole, Morocco, Guam and the Eniwetok Islands in the South Pacific during the atomic test. He also retired after 20 years as a Department of Justice employee, having served in the Department of Correction in Lorton, Va. and the U.S. Penitentiary in Atlanta, retiring in 1991, after more than 40 years with the federal government. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 11 in the Chapel of Haisten Funeral Home with the Rev. Gary DeMore officiating. March 10, 2004 WATTS, RICHARD C. JR. Mr. Richard C. Watts Jr. of Stockbridge died March 10, 2004 after a lengthy illness. He served in the U.S. Army and U.S. Air Force Reserve and was retired from Bell South. He was a member of Stockbridge United Methodist Church. March 12, 2004 LaRUE, HERBERT B. Mr. Herbert B. LaRue, 71, of Lake City, passed away Friday, March 12, 2004. Mr. LaRue was a retired Dental Laboratory Technician and was the former owner and operator of Dental Service Laboratory in Lake City, Ga. He was a former Boy Scout Leader for Troop 912, a member of The Masonic Lodge in Forest Park, The Eastern Star and the Yaarab Shrine Temple. March 13, 2004 BLISSIT, WILLIAM JEREMIAH (JERRY) William Jeremiah (Jerry) Blissit, 63, of Griffin, died March 13, 2004. He was born July 27, 1940 in Henry County, the son of the late Thelma Lucy Crumbley and William Frederick Blissit. He was a member of Union Baptist Church, a member of the Wildlife Bird Association, retired from General Motors in 1993 with 29 years of service and served in the U.S. Army from 1962 to 1967. He was preceded in death by his wife, Frances A. Cordova Blissit, in 2003. Survivors are his daughters and son-in-law Angela and Larry Smith of Griffin and Debra Wright of Griffin; sisters Glenda Cordova of Augusta, Sue Morris of Americus and Betty Faye Bowden of Harvest, Ala.; grandchildren Amanda Smith, Jeremiah Smith and Cody Blissit; great-granddaughter Mallory Jerri-Danyele Smith. DODSON, WESLEY RAY Wesley Ray Dodson, 71, of Locust Grove, died March 13, 2004. He was born April 15, 1932, in White County, Tenn., the son of the late Renna Marsh and Jim Dodson. He was a member of Phillippi Baptist Church working with the youth for numerous years. He was a volunteer at Cornerstone Nursing Home and retired from Ford Motor Co. with 26 years of service. Talbott, age 65, of Graham, Ga. and formerly of McDonough died Monday, March 15, 2004, at St. Joseph's Hospital in Savannah. A native of Troy, N.Y., Mr. Talbott retired from the U.S. Army as a Master Sergeant and was a Vietnam War veteran. He later was associated with the Jekyll Island Authority as a horticulturist. Mrs. Allen was born February 16, 1935, and was the daughter of Elmer and Ruth Lott. She was the widow of Sammy Lynn Allen. March 15, 2004 CHAMBLEE, JAMES HARVEY Mr. James Harvey Chamblee, age 75, of Hampton, died Monday, March 15, 2004, at Christian Ministries Hospice in Griffin. Mr. Chamblee was born Aug. 8, 1928, in Jefferson County, Ala., son of the late Callie Annette Chandler and William Guy Chamblee. He had retired with 31 years as an airline mechanic with Delta Airlines, served his country in the U.S. Marines, and was an avid fisherman. March 16, 2004 BRINSON, JULIAN CALLAWAY Mr. Julian Callaway Brinson, age 75, of Jenkinsburg, Ga. died Tuesday, March 16, 2004, at Southern Regional Medical Center. He was born May 31, 1928, in Burke County, Ga., son of the late Essie Hargrove and Charles Judson Brinson. Mr. Brinson served his country in the U.S. Marines during World War II, he was a member of County Line Baptist Church, and retired as a general contractor. March 18, 2004 CARMICHAEL, EDNA LEE WEEMS Edna Lee Weems Carmichael passed away Thursday, March 18, 2004. She was preceded in death by her husband, James A. Carmichael, and son, David Carmichael. CAMILLI, LEONARD FRANCIS (LEN) Mr. Leonard Francis Camilli (Len), age 77, of Stockbridge died Thursday, March 18, 2004, at his residence in the presence of his dear ones, friends and family. He was preceded in death by his wife, Marilyn Whiddon Camilli in 1999. Len was born Dec. 3 1926, in Summit, N.J., son of the late Mary Barnis and Peter Camilli. He attended Rutgers University, and after serving in the Army Air Force graduated from Seton Hall University with honors. He was part of the first group to establish and utilize computers in the textile industry at J.P. Stevens Woolen Mills and later was Director of Purchasing at Forstmann Worsted and Woolens until retirement. Marilyn and Len were devoted parents. He believed in Christian stewardship and lived a dedicated and a productive spiritual life of service in the Roman Catholic Church in the diocese of Charlotte, N.C. Here in McDonough at the St. James The Apostle Catholic Parish he was an RCIA team member, led classes and retreats for adults coming into the Catholic Church, served on its Advancement Commission, and loved its congregation. His experiences in the Curcillo movement prepared and motivated him for such leadership. He also was a Knight of Columbus, Council 7601, and a member of the Regional Board of the George State Mental Health Commission. He enjoyed golf, and only a short month before his death he and his twin brother John spent a weekend in Florida golfing. A funeral Mass for Mr. Camilli will be Monday, March 22 at 11 a.m. at St. James Catholic Church in McDonough with Msgr. Terry W. Young as celebrant. Gordon E. Henley, age 68, of McDonough died Friday, March 19, 2004. Mr. Henley, recipient of a heart transplant in 1996, was a valued member of the transplant community. He served the St. Joseph's Heart Transplant Association as its President in 1998. Gordon also participated, along with 40 others from St. Joseph's in the Transplant Olympics held annually at various locations across the nation. He was a major contributor to "Going Out," an organ donor recruitment program utilizing DMV registration and donor education programs in the schools. Gordon also spearheaded the formation of the "Around-Town Dinners." These quarterly events provided a forum for transplant families to share their experiences. Celebration of the life of Gordon E. Henley will take place at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 21 in the Chapel of Cannon-Cleveland Funeral Directors, 2580 Highway 42 North, McDonough, Ga. with the Rev. Tracey Smith and the Rev. He is survived by his loving wife of 19 years, Geraldine (Coviello) Henley; son, Barry E. Henley; and 3 brothers, David, James, and W. C. Henley. His mother, Madeline (Neal) Henley, and his father, Henry Henley, both preceded him in death. Also surviving are Jean Diaz, two brothers-in-law, two sisters-in-law, and eight nieces and nephews. HAMBY, WILLIAM FRED William Fred Hamby, 84, of Forest Park passed away Friday, March 19, 2004. Mr. Hamby was a member of Jones Memorial Methodist Church and a charter member of Skyland Methodist. Dr. Fogle was born Aug. 22, 1941, in Griffin, Ga., son of the late George Elliott and Helen Wilburn Fogle. He was a retired dentist and an Army veteran of the Korean conflict. March 28, 2004 CLARK, BOBBY GENE Bobby Gene Clark, 67, of McDonough, died March 28, 2004, at Henry Medical Center. Clark was born May 6, 1936, in Clay County, Ala., the son of Levis Mildred Ray Clark Lucas of McDonough and the late Houston Thomas Clark. He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Francene Putnam of McDonough; children Tim and Bonnie Clark of McDonough, Lynn and Tim Gable of McDonough and Kimberly Weed of Jonesboro; brother Tommy Clark of Phenix City, Ala.; sisters Dorothy Hornsby of Knoxville, Tenn., Rachel Dodgen of LaGrange, Ga. and Brenda Shrader of Social Circle; and nine grandchildren. Clark was a member of Jonesboro Seven Day Adventist Church, served his country from 1958-1964 in the U.S. Army during the Berlin Crisis, a member of the Escapee Travel Club and had retired from the government. Funeral services will be Tuesday, March 30, 2004, at 2:30 p.m. in the chapel of Haisten Funeral Home with Pastor David Penno and Dr. Gary Lewis officiating. Interment will be in Oak Hill Cemetery in Griffin. March 29, 2004 WILLIAMS, ANN M. Ann M. Williams, age 73, of Eatonton, died Monday, March 29, 2004. A native of Henry County, Mrs. Williams was a homemaker, a member of the First United Methodist Church in Eatonton, the Phoenix Homemakers Club, and numerous flower clubs. A memorial service will take place at 2 p.m. Thursday, April 1 at Ward's Rockdale Chapel, with Pastor Ralph Easterwood officiating. Survivors include her husband, H.O. BARNES, KATHLEEN GLASS Mrs. Kathleen Glass Barnes, age 81, of Locust Grove, died Monday, March 29, 2004. Mrs. Barnes was born Dec. 23, 1922, in Henry County, daughter of the late Rubye Ford Glass and Thomas Hastings Glass. She was a member of the Locust Grove United Methodist Church, where she was a very active member serving as President and other offices of the United Methodist Women, Sunday School Teacher, Administrative Board, Locust Grove Women's Club, Amaranth of McDonough and Girl Scout leader. Her husband, James William Barnes, preceded her in death in 1992. Funeral services will take place at 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 31 at the Locust Grove United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Doug Gilreath and the Rev. Ron Capes officiating. She will lie in state at the church one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow at Flippen Cemetery. March 30, 2004 KENT, BESS WISE Bess Wise Kent, age 84, of Commerce, died Tuesday, March 30, 2004. She was born in Henry County July 14, 1919, to the late George Clifford and Lucy Carmichael Wise. Funeral services will take place at 11 a.m. Thursday, April 1 from Mt. Carmel United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Clay Manley officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
