She was born March 5, 1961, in Towns County, Ga., to the late Betty Jean Puckett McTaggart. She was a member of Phillips Drive Baptist Church in Forest Park and was a bakery-deli manager for Winn-Dixie. Survivors include her husband of 13 years, Darrell Tanner; daughter Kristi Tanner; father Cecil McTaggart of Hayesville, N.C.; brother Phillip McTaggart of McDonough; niece and nephews Samantha, Jacob and Tyler McTaggart. Funeral services will be Monday, April 5, 2004, at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Haisten Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Haisten/Eastlawn Memorial Park. KING, R. MIKE R. Mike King, 57, of McDonough, died April 2, 2004. He is survived by wife Ann King of McDonough; son Troy King of Carthage, N.C.; daughter Monti King of Decatur; three grandchildren; 10 step- grandchildren; mother Louise King of McDonough; sister Darlene Watkins of Maryland; brother Kenneth King of Loganville; numerous nieces and nephews. King was a member of Valley Brook Baptist Church, Decatur, and the Sons of Confederate Veterans. BAILEY, PATRICIA Patricia Bailey, age 70, of Stockbridge, passed away Friday, April 2, 2004. Patricia Bailey will be remembered as a devoted wife, loving and nurturing mother and grandmother, and loyal friend. Those privileged to have loved her can take comfort in a life well lived. Mrs. Bailey is a long-time member of Jonesboro Christian Church and a member of Calvary Christian Church. CHEEK, PAULA ELISE Paula Elise Cheek of Senoia, Ga. died at home after a long battle with breast cancer, Friday, April 2, 2004. Paula was a talented educator, having spent 15 years as a kindergarten teacher at Kirkpatrick Elementary School in Clayton County, and three years as a second grade teacher at Peeples Elementary School in Fayette County. She was named Teacher of the Year for Kirkpatrick in 1994. As the heart and soul of her family, she will be mourned. As a light to so many, she will live on. A funeral Mass will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Monday, April 5 at Saint George Catholic Church in Newnan, Ga. April 4, 2004 BARR, WALTER STERLING SR. Walter Sterling Barr Sr., 79, of McDonough, died April 4, 2004. He is survived by wife Ann E. He was a retired electrician with the railroad, a 50-year mason at Inman Lodge in Austell and a World War II U.S. Navy veteran. ROSS, GARY E. Mr. Gary E. Ross, 56, of Stockbridge, passed away Sunday, April 4, 2004, after a long battle with cancer. Mr. Ross served in the United States Air Force, retiring with 20 years of service. Following his retirement from the armed services Mr. Ross joined the Clayton County Sheriff's Office. He then retired from the Sheriff's Office with 11 years of service. Funeral services will take place at 1 p.m. Wednesday, April 7, with Pastor Ken Fuqua and Pastor Scott Reece officiating. Interment will follow at Fairview Memorial Gardens in Stockbridge. "Otie" McCrary, age 84, of McDonough, died Sunday, April 4, 2004. She was born in Anderson, S.C. Sept. 18, 1919, to the late Joseph and Alpha Omega King McCrary. She was a member of Southside Christian Fellowship, formerly known as McDonough Covenant Fellowship. Sgt. Fredrick Lee Gandy, age 76, of McDonough, died Sunday, April 4, 2004. He was born Nov. 6, 1927, to the late Will and Amy Gandy and was a former ROTC Instructor at Jonesboro High School. He was a member of Calvary Assembly of God Church in Hampton, Master Mason Hampton Lodge 70 where he was Worshipful Master in 1982. He was preceded in death by his first wife Jessie Dennis Gandy in 1985, and Brother, Charles Gandy, 1985. April 10, 2004 THOMASON, WILLIAM HAROLD William Harold Thomason Sr., 64, of McDonough, died April 10, 2004, at Emory University Hospital. Thomason was born Nov. 9, 1939, in Gwinnett County, the son of the late Willie Mae Blackburn and Myra Delmar Thomason. He was a member of New Testament Community Church. Mr. Cooper was a retired law enforcement officer with 20 years of service with the Clayton County Police Department and 12 years of service with the Fayette County Sheriff's Department. GRIFFITH, GRACE JAMES Grace James Griffith, 89, widow of Dr. L.O. Griffith, died April 10, 2004, at Christian City. She will be honored with a memorial service at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 15 in the chapel at Christian City. Her body was donated to Emory University School of Medicine. She was a 40-year employee of the Southern Baptist Home Mission Board. A native of Kentucky, she worked for the State Mission Board in Louisville, before moving to Atlanta to join the HMB staff. April 11, 2004 MILLS, ELTON C. Mr. Elton C. Mills Sr., age 85, of Stockbridge, died Sunday, April 11, 2004. Mr. Mills was a member of Mt. Vernon Baptist Church. April 12, 2004 GOSSETT, CLINTON L. Mr. Clinton L. Gossett, 62, of Lake City, passed away Monday, April 12, 2004, at Southern Regional Medical Center. Clinton was born Sept. 18, 1941, son of the late Leland Luther Gossett and Sarah Francis Weaver Gossett. There will be a private service held for Clinton Gossett by the family. She delighted in that profession until shortly before her death. A gifted pianist, she shared her love of music with the many students she taught in her home, in her church, and in the Henry County School System. She retired from the public school system after 19 years of service. She leaves to cherish her memory her husband of 48 years, the Rev. James H. April 15, 2004 SPANGLER, HARRY DAVID Mr. Harry David Spangler Jr., age 78, of Barnesville, passed away Thursday, April 15, 2004. Mr. Spangler was born March 6, 1926, in Lexington, Va. to the late Harry David Spangler Sr. and the late Winnie Martin Spangler. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruby Marlene Raffel Spangler in 2002. He retired from All American Quality Foods as a meat department supervisor and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Stockbridge. He served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II, where he was in a POW camp for 383 days. Mrs. Spencer was born in Michigan July 4, 1947, to James C. Southerland and the late Agnes Lee Evans. She was preceded in death by her sister, Linda Clifton. April 22, 2004 HIXSON, STEPHEN MANUEL Stephen Manuel Hixson, 40, of Belton, S.C., died Thursday, April 22, 2004, at the Hospice House. He was born Feb. 14, 1964, in Chattanooga, Tenn. He graduated from Tri-County Tech with a 4.0 grade point average on April 19, 2004. He was a member of the Alpha Zeta Beta, Phi Theta Kappa and Who's Who Among American Junior College Students. He was named Outstanding Senior in Industrial Electronics and was an accomplished martial artist. He was on the president's list and dean's list. She was preceded in death by her son, Ronnie Spires, and her parents, Taz and Dorris Pair of Cumming. She is survived by her husband of 41 years, Clois Spires; son and daughter-in-law, Scott and Michele Spires of Concord; brothers and sisters-in-law, Doyle and JoAnn Pair of Columbus and Henry and Carolyn Pair of Cumming; sister and brother-in-law, Winnie and Eugene Allen of Conyers; and grandchildren, Victoria, Ronnie, Brianna and Danielle. April 23, 2004 CLARK, SARAH BOWEN Mrs. Sarah Bowen Clark, 81, died Friday, April 23, 2004. Mrs. Clark was born in Haralson County on Aug. 23, 1922, the daughter of the late Walter Emerson Bowen and Mary Ruth Hurst Bowen. She and Lewis Eugene Clark were married Jan. 11, 1944. They lived in Forest Park for 41 years before returning to Carroll County in 1992. She was a homemaker, member of the Eastern Star Chapter 290 and the First Baptist Church in Forest Park. April 24, 2004 BARHAM, EDNA McGARITY Edna McGarity Barham, 91, died April 23, 2004. Born June 24, 1912, in McDonough, Ga., she was the daughter of the late Homer S. and Nora Sherwood McGarity and was a member of the Mt. Bethel United Methodist Church. She is preceded in death by her husband, Walter C. Barham, and granddaughter, Donna Joyce Busbin, and is survived by her children, Betty Barham Brown, Charlotte, N.C., Richard E. Mr. English was born May 15, 1929 in Henry County, the son of the late Lilly Mae Tolleson and Joseph Johnson English. Mr. English drove a MARTA bus for 32 plus years and enjoyed farming. ABRAHAMSEN, ROBERT CONRAD Robert Conrad Abrahamsen of Hilton Head Island, S.C., died April 26, 2004. He was born in Queens, N.Y. to the late Aksel Conrad and Selma Petersen Abrahamsen. He served our country in the United States Navy as a combat veteran in WWII, graduate of the University of Oklahoma with a degree in Chemical Engineering working with aluminum and carbon industries, Empire State Mason, and a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Hilton Head Island, S.C. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Eleanor, sons and daughter-in-laws, Tom and Carol Abrahamsen, Columbia, S.C., Eric and Rosie Abrahamsen, Camarillo, Calif., Bob and Johanna Abrahamsen, Marietta, Ga.; daughter and son-in-law, Ann & Randall Hodges, Stockbridge, Ga.; brothers, Arthur Abrahamsen, Stone Ridge, N.Y., and Roger Abrahamsen, Orlando, Fla.; sisters, Anita Ruge, Madison, Conn., Jean Shannon, West Palm Beach, Fla.; and 10 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his brother, Edwin. A private family memorial service is being planned. WALLACE, CHARLES "STEVE" Charles "Steve" Wallace, 56, of Morrow, passed away April 26, 2004 at Grady Memorial Hospital. He was born April 25, 1948, a son of Jack Wallace and Betty Mitchell Kight. Mrs. Ouida R. Scheick, 48, of McDonough passed away Wednesday, April 28, 2004, at the Rockdale Medical Center. Mrs. Scheick was born Aug. 29, 1955, in Fulton County to the late John Julian Gallman. She was an accounting clerk at Cronic in Griffin, and was a member of Eastside Baptist Church in McDonough. Survivors include her husband, Joseph Scheick; daughter, LaVaughn Craig of Dallas, Ga.; son, Daniel Scheick of Jackson; mother, Frances Gallman of Jackson; grandsons, Jason Cook-Scheick and Julian Craig; sister, Darlene Rose of Griffin; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services for Mrs. Scheick will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, May 2, 2004, at Eastside Baptist Church. The Revs. Andrew Ragan and Donald Marlin will officiate.
