He was known for and enjoyed cooking country foods such as fried chicken and cornbread, watching the history channel and tinkering with electronics. He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War and retired with 10 years of faithful service. After his tenure in the Army he became an electrician until his death. Bolen is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Sherry and Randy E. Mahaffey of Stockbridge; two grandsons, Trent E. Mahaffey, Cody E. Mahaffey, both of Stockbridge; brothers and sister-in-law, Paul and Peggy Bolen of Meridian, Miss., Bob and Jo Bolen of Spring, Texas; sisters Loraine Bolen of Mississippi, and Wanda Ford of Tupelo, Miss. May 2, 2004 GILBERT, JAMES CURTIS (JIMMY), SGT. Sgt. James Curtis (Jimmy) Gilbert, Jr. 41, Henry County Police Department, of Heard Street, Flovilla, Ga. died early Sunday morning, May 2, 2004 as a result of injuries in an automobile accident in Henry County. He was born in Spalding County, Ga. Sept. 10, 1962 son of the late James Curtis Gilbert Sr. and JoAnne Scarborough Gilbert Woodall who survives. Sgt. Gilbert has been in law enforcement for almost 20 years, working with the Butts County Sheriff's Department, Henry County Sheriff's Department and Henry County Police Department. He was a member of Flovilla Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife, Patricia Thompson Gilbert; children, Allison, Austin and Sarah; his mother and stepfather, JoAnne and Louis Woodall; sisters, Diane Fincher and Missy Gilbert of Flovilla; mother-in-law, Sarah Carroll, Sharpsburg, Ga. and several aunts, uncles and cousins. BUSH, LILLIE GENEVA WATSON Mrs. Lillie Geneva Watson Bush, 77, of McDonough, Ga., died April 30, 2004, at Piedmont Hospital. Mrs. Bush was born Oct. 8, 1926, in Telfair County. She was the daughter of the late Ida Leola Mays and John Madison Watson. She was a devoted homemaker and a member of McDonough First United Methodist Church, the United Methodist Women and McDonough American Legion Auxiliary. She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Frank Calhoun Bush of McDonough; children, Barry Bush of Stockbridge and Bonnie Bush of McDonough; sister, Mildred Williams of Macon; grandchildren, Bianca Rollins and B.Bea Peters; and great-grandchild, Olivia Rollins. NESBITT, RUDOLPH HENSOLDT Mr. Rudolph Hensoldt Nesbitt, 85, of McDonough, Ga. died May 2, 1004 at Southern Regional Medical Center. Mr. Nesbitt was born in Fulton County the son of the late Lillie Grantham and Rudolph H. Nesbitt Sr. He was a retired engineer for Sears Roebuck of Atlanta, served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II and an aerial photographer and attended Georgia Tech before his military career. He was known for being an avid reader, good listener, enjoying horses and fishing. He was preceded in death by his wife, Kate Duncan Nesbitt who died in 1998. Survivors are his daughter, Karen Nesbitt; son, David Nesbitt of McDonough; grandchildren, Jeff Covington of San Diego and David R. Nesbitt of McDonough; sister, Rebecca Fincher of East Point and nieces and nephews. Funeral Services for Mr. Nesbitt will be Wednesday evening at 8 p.m. in the chapel of Haisten Funeral \Home, with the Rev. Michael W. Wilson officiating. A private graveside service will be conducted Thursday morning at 11 at Fairview Memorial Park. May 3, 2004 KNESTRICK, MAYNARD Maynard Knestrick died Monday, May 3, 2004 at the age of 57. Originally from Washington County, Pa., Maynard Knestrick was a resident of Riverdale, Ga. He grew up on the family farm in Pennsylvania and graduated from Bentworth High School in 1964 where he was a four-year member of the high school band. During that time, he was also active in the Glyde 4-H club and a member of the Pawnee Grange. He expressed an early love for music, especially the piano, which continued throughout his life. He was a graduate of the University of Cincinnati, College Conservatory of Music. He retired as head of corporate media for Norfolk Southern Corporation where he was employed for more than 30 years. Mr. Knestrick was past president of the International Television Association. After his retirement from Norfolk-Southern he worked with his wife at their business K-Art Gallery & Custom Framing. He was also on the faculty of American Intercontinental University in Atlanta. An active member of the Rotary Club of Clayton County and a former Charter member of the Rotary Club of Henry County, Mr. Knestrick also served as a Trustee of the Georgia Rotary Student Program. He held both the Will Watt and the Hugh Thomas Fellowships. His wife Kay and he served as the host family for 13 Georgia Rotary students and opened their home on many occasions to scores of other international students and visitors. He was the son of the late Ralph E. and Emma N. Knestrick. Mr. Knestrick is survived by his wife Kay F. Knestrick; brother and sister-in-law, R. Corwin and Lynn S. Knestrick of Virginia; mother-in-law, Catherine J. Guibord of Jonesboro and nieces and nephews Christopher C. Knestrick, Allison S. Knestrick and Jonathan D. Knestrick and hundreds of international students whose lives he touched through the Georgia Rotary Student Program. GUNTER, RUBY MAE CALLAWAY Mrs. Ruby Mae Callaway Gunter, 95, of McDonough, Ga., died May 3, 2004 at Cornerstone Nursing Home in McDonough. Mrs. Gunter was born Feb. 1, 1909 in Clayton County, the daughter of the late Ophelia Turner and Arthur Callaway. She was a member of Bethany Baptist Church. Mrs. Gunter was preceded in death by her husband, Verner Carl Gunter in 1994; sons, Carlton Gunter in 2003, Neil Gunter in 2001 and Ronald Gunter in 2004. Thelma P. Bledsoe, of McDonough, died May 3, 2004. She was born in Arcadia, Okla. to the late Truman and Francis Wolfkill and preceded by her husband, O. B. Bledsoe. May 4, 2004 CARTER, EUGENE ELLIOTT Mr. Eugene Elliott Carter, 77, of McDonough, Ga. died May 4, 2004 at Emory University Hospital. Mr. Carter was born Aug. 30, 1926 in Baxley, Ga., the son of the late Mary Smith and Milton Hughey Carter. He was an active member and Deacon of Liberty Hill Baptist Church, he enjoyed gardening, fishing and spending time with his family and church family. Mr. Carter served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II . Sisters, Mary Emma Woodard, LaVerne Thorne and brother, Marvin Carter preceded him in death. Mrs. Ewell was born Nov. 2, 1948 in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. The daughter of the late Wilma Faye Funkand James Wright Spear. She was a graduate of New Port Richey Florida Real Estate School. She worked in real estate management before her illness. May 7, 2004 BENNETT, LONA BELLAH Lona Bellah Bennett, age 105, of Stockbridge, died Friday, May 7, 2004. She was born in Stockbridge, Ga. to the late John and Alice Gossett Bellah. Mrs. Bennett was a retired school teacher, teaching in the Stockbridge City Schools and other schools throughout Georgia and North Carolina. She was a member of Stockbridge Presbyterian Church, where several of her paintings hang. She was known for her paintings and wonderful stories of her childhood in Stockbridge. A memorial service will be held at a later date. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Lona and Jack Robertson of Gainesville, Ga.; grandson, Wayne and Amy Robertson of New Jersey; great- grandchildren, Laura and Amanda Robertson. May 14, 2004 HARBIN, HERBERT RONDAL Herbert Rondal Harbin, 67, of Calhoun, died at 9:45 p.m. Friday, May 14, 2004, at Gordon Hospital following an unexpected illness. He was born March 20, 1937, in Gidean, Mo., son of the late James Herbert Harbin and Hazel Anglin Harbin. He was a veteran with four years service in the U.S. Navy. He was an alumnus of Mercer University School of Pharmacy Class of 1963, a member of the Georgia Pharmaceutical Association for 34 years, and had served for 34 years as a pharmacist in Calhoun. He was a member of the Calhoun Elks Lodge, BPOE No. 1883. He was a member, deacon and choir member of the Belmont Baptist Church. He graduated from Thomson High School, attended Berry College, and graduated from Southern Technical College in Chamblee, Ga. He served three years in the Marine Reserves and eight years in the Naval Reserves. Sam retired from BellSouth Telephone Company following 38 years of service, with a perfect attendance record, and was a member of BellSouth Pioneers. He was a faithful member of Salem Baptist Church of McDonough. Sam's main hobby was genealogy, and he spent many long hours over the last several years, including several trips to Scotland, to create a very extensive family tree. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday, May 27 from the Salem Baptist Church, with Pastor Rick Statham, the Rev. Dan McKay, and the Rev. Bobby Swafford officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Sam will lie in state in the church parlor for one hour prior to the service. May 25, 2004 HONIKER, CHRISTIAN FRANCIS Mr. Christian Francis Honiker, age 33, of McDonough, passed away Tuesday, May 25, 2004, in Walton County. Christian was born Oct. 23, 1970, in Berkshire County, Mass. He owned Honiker Floors, partnering with his father. May 26, 2004 HUFFMAN, KAY FRANCES Kay Frances Huffman, 72, of Stockbridge, Ga., died peacefully in her sleep on Wednesday, May 26, 2004, at the home of her stepdaughter, Laraine E. Stewart, Donald A. Stewart in Phoenix, Ariz., surrounded by her loving family. Born Kay Frances Gilkerson, Sept. 5, l93l, in Columbus, Ohio, Kay was the featured vocalist/percussionist with the "Frances Kay Trio" founded by her husband and bassist, Donald T. Huffman, who preceded her in death on May 27, 1995. Kay Huffman was a long-time member of the First Baptist Church in Stockbridge and of the Daniels Drive Baptist Church, also of Stockbridge. Kay passed away with full faith in Jesus Christ. A private graveside ceremony will be conducted by her family on Sunday, May 30. Kay is survived by her stepdaughter, Laraine E. Stewart, Donald A. May 27, 2004 SMITH, WILMA HIETT INGRAM Born Wilma Ima Ingram on Aug. 12, 1919, today, Thursday, May 27, 2004, Wilma Hiett Smith went home to be with the Lord. Wilma was a lifetime resident of Oxford, Ala., and was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, Kennard Hiett. She was also preceded in death by her husband R.L. Smith. She relocated to McDonough, Ga. in 2001, where she enjoyed living next door to her family. Recently, declining health made it necessary for her to move in with Rex and Barbara, where she has lived for the past two years. Wilma was a dedicated Baptist and a long-time member of Calvary Baptist Church in Oxford, Ala. Since moving to Georgia she has attended McDonough Christian Church with her family. A public viewing will take place at McDonough Christian Church, 2000 Jonesboro Road, from 6 to 8 p.m. today. Wilma will be transported for a viewing on Saturday, May 29 from 4 to 6 p.m. at Miller's Funeral Home in Oxford, Ala., with services to follow in the chapel at 2 p.m. Sunday, May 30 Central Time (3 p.m. Eastern Standard Time). May 30, 2004 William Floyd Evans, 61, of McDonough, died May 30, 2004, at Emory University Hospital. He was born in Spalding County on March 29, 1943, the son of the late Laura Gilmer and Wiley Evans. He worked for Henry County DOT for 30 years, served his country in the U.S. Army and was an avid golfer. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Carolyn Hulsey.
