He was born June 28, 1927, in Fulton County, the son of the late Edna Channell and James Calvin Steele. He was an active member of Mt. Carmel United Methodist Church, had retired from Prestolite Battery Co. in 1983 with 33 years of service. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Ethelyn Chaffin Steele of McDonough; children Jerry and Shirley Steele of Andrews, N.C., Martha and Joe Auriemma of Senoia, Ga., and Connie and Michael West of McDonough; brother Jimmy Steele of Loganville; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews. Carmel United Methodist Church Cemetery. WOOD, ELIZABETH DELPHIA "DEL" Elizabeth Delphia "Del" Wood Craig, 88, of McDonough, died July 3, 2004 at Henry Medical Center. Craig was born in Paulding County on July 23, 1915, the daughter of the late Willie Baxter and Robert Wood. She was a member of McDonough Baptist Tabernacle, devoted homemaker, wife, mother and grandmother. She enjoyed cooking, gardening and her pets. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lamar Alexander Craig in 2000; son Charles Barnett in 1992; brothers Fred Wood, D.W. Wood, Baxter Wood and Spurgen Wood; sisters Minnie Lee Fuller, Clara Lee, Clinton Shelton, Geneva Bookout, Ruby Crocker and Ophelia Hitchcock. July 4, 2004 MITCHELL, BOBBIE JEAN CROWDER Bobbie Jean Crowder Mitchell, 67, of Milner, died July 4, 2004, at Medical Center of Central Georgia. She was born July 27, 1936, in Leicester, N.C., the daughter of the late Lois Swain and Robert Elijah Crowder. She was a devoted homemaker who ejoyed gardening, reading, sewing and her pets. Mitchell was preceded in death by her husband, James William Mitchell in 2002. Survivors are her daughter and son-in-law, Robbie and Tony Wharton of Hampton; stepdaughter and son-in-law Patsy and Sam Lamb of New Tazwell, Tenn.; grandchildren, Rachel Honeycutt of Stockbridge and Sheila Honeycutt of Hampton; step-grandchildren Shania Lamb, Kaleb Lamb and Zackery Lamb of New Tazwell, Tenn. COSTNER, WILLIAM JR. William Defay "Bill" Costner, Jr., 55, of Stockbridge, passed away on July 4, 2004. King, Jr., 69, of McDonough, died Friday, July 9, 2004 at the home of his daughter. King, was born May 14, 1935, in Lancaster, S.C. to the late Fred L. King Sr., and the last Beulah Mae Faile King. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruby May Fortune King in 2003 and by sons, Robert L. King and Paul L. King. He served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and was a retired truck driver with the Teamster. Survivors include his daughter Paula M. Interment followed in Resthaven Cemetery in Decatur, GA. July 11, 2004 CONSALVO, JOSEPH Joseph Consalvo, 88, of Stockbridge, GA passed away Sunday, July 11 after losing his battle with brain cancer. Born in Jersey City, N.J. June 20, 1916, Mr. Consalvo worked for 41 years for BASF in Bound Brook, N.J. Joseph Consalvo also served in the U.S. Army from 1941-1945 during WWII. Surviving are his wife Dorothy Van Pelt-Consalvo; daughter Joanne Consalvo-Mulvaney of Stockbridge; son, Joseph John Consalvo, Jr. of Port Charlotte, FL; three grandchildren, Adam Muaket, Shawn Mulvaney and Daniel Mulvaney, all of Stockbridge. McDONALD, LAWANA SUE "SUE" Lawana Sue "Sam" McDonald, 60, of McDonough, died Monday, July 12, 2004. A native of Paris, Texas, Mrs. McDonald resided in Birmingham for many years, having moved to McDonough two years ago. She was employed in the Records Dept. of the Henry County, GA Police Department. She was of the Baptist faith. Mrs. McDonald is survived by her husband, James L. McDonald; sister, Sandra K. Adams of Athens, AL; stepson, Michael J. McDonald of Calera, AL, and two grandchildren. July 13, 2004 CHANDLER, NATHANIEL LEONARD Mr. Nathaniel Leonard Chandler, 78, of McDonough and formerly of Atlanta died Tuesday, July 13, 2004 in an automobile accident. Mr. Chandler was born Feb. 23, 1926, in Fulton County, son of the late Blanche Amelia Olympus Chandler. He graduated from the University of Georgia and served his country in the U.S. Navy at the end of WWII as a radioman. He was a very active member of McDonough First United Methodist Church and an accountant with Bowman Accounting Firm. Mr. Chandler enjoyed his family, church, work, crossword puzzles, game shows, sports, and music. His wife, LouAnn White Chandler preceded him in death in November, 1994, his brother Hamilton Chandler in 1999, and his brother Louis Chandler in 1936. Survivors include his children, Phyllis and Don Shepek of Manhattan, KS, Carter and Margene Chandler of Loganville, Bryan and Susan Chandler of Covington, and Tim and Melanie Chandler of McDonough; stepdaughter, Sheila Dudzinski of Florida; eight grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. July 17, 2004 MARTIN, AUGUSTUS Augustus Lamar "Moty" Martin, 82, of McDonough, died July 17, 2004, at Henry Medical Center. Martin was born in Henry County on January 5, 1922, the son of the late Florrie Bell Wynn and Hugh Martin. He was a member of Mt. Bethel United Methodist Church, retired from Ford Motor Co., served his country in the US Army during WWII and received the European African Middle Eastern Service Medal with three bronze stars, WWII Victory Medal and American Service Medal. He was preceded in death by brother, Gerald Martin and John Thomas Martin; sister Marion Rowan. She was born June 15, 1915, in Fayetteville, the daughter of the late Georgia Della and Rivus Buran Hopkins. She was preceded in death by her husband, Roy Dobbs, in 1978. She was a member of McDonough Baptist Tabernacle and had retired from Nabisco. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Linda and Charles Strickland of McDonough; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. A native of Henry County, Mrs. Salter had lived in Albany since 1945, where she was a member of First United Methodist Church, the Fellowship Sunday School Class and United Methodist Women. Mrs. Salter was a retired school teacher from the Dougherty County School System with 30 years of service. Mrs. Salter loved handicrafts and loved to crochet, she also made numerous stuffed animals to give to children. He was born in Atlanta, grew up in Clayton County and graduated from Forest Park High School. Mr. Stanley was employed with New Image Dental Labs. He was an avid Mark Martin NASCAR fan and loved his Mustang. Mr. Stanley was preceded in death by his mother, Mary A. Norris. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 1 in the chapel of A. S. Turner & Sons. The Rev. Vernon Smith will officiate. Interment will follow at Forest Hills Memorial Gardens. HYSAN, BETTIE JANE Bettie Jane Hysan of Rex died Thursday, July 29, 2004. A memorial service will be conducted at 6 p.m. Monday, Aug. 2 at Pristine Chapel, 7541 Mt. Zion Blvd. in Jonesboro. MOSELEY, SADIE FORD Mrs. Sadie Ford Moseley, 78, of Stockbridge, Ga. died Thursday, July 29, 2004, at Rockdale Hospital. Mrs. Moseley was born April 15, 1926, in Henry County, daughter of the late, Elizabeth Eva Fields and Lee Roy Ford. She retired from Standard Oil Company (Chevron) with 35 years of service. Mrs. Moseley was a member of Union United Methodist Church, and a loving, devoted wife and mother. Funeral services for Mrs. Moseley will be Sunday, Aug. 1, at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Haisten Funeral Home, with the Rev. Jimmy Hood officiating. Interment will be at Haisten/Eastlawn Memorial Park. July 30, 2004 WALDEN, WALTER B. "WALT" Walter B. "Walt" Walden, 48, of McDonough, died Friday, July 30, 2004. Funeral services will be held at Bethel United Methodist Church on Monday, Aug. 1, 2004, at 11 a.m. with Dr. Robert Brown officiating. Interment will follow in Fairview Memorial Gardens in Stockbridge. A native of Fulton County, Walden worked as a ferrier, was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church and was the 1989 team calf roper world champion and ACA and PCA calf roping all-around champion. He is survived by his son, Wyatt Walden of Stockbridge; daughter, Brittney Walden of Rex; son Shane Walden of Duluth; parents Raymond E. and Shirley Walden of Stockbridge; sister Vennie Walden of Stockbridge; and brother Wesley and Brenda Walden of Stockbridge; several nieces and nephews.
