August 3, 2004 LLOYD, LAWRENCE R., RET. MSGT. Ret. Msgt. Lawrence R. Lloyd, 83, a resident of Stockbridge, Ga., died Aug. 3, 2004. He was born in Bluemont, Va. to Beulah Elizabeth Lee and Ludwell Humpston Lloyd on June 23, 1921. Mr. Lloyd was a U.S. Army veteran, having served during World War II and the Korean Conflict. He participated in the landing on Utah Beach during the D-Day invasion, as well as 10 other major battles. Funeral Services will be conducted at the Chapel of Cannon-Cleveland Funeral Directors on Saturday, Aug. 7 at 11 a.m., with the Rev. Bobby Bird officiating. Interment will follow at Fairview Memorial Gardens. SCOTT, ELSIE MAE WEATHERFORD Elsie Mae Weatherford Scott, 75, of Jackson (Henry County) passed away Tuesday, Aug. 3, 2004, at Fayette Community Hospital. Mrs. Scott was born Jan. 17, 1929, in Fulton County, Ga. to the late John Garrett Weatherford and the late Annie Mae Jackson Weatherford. She was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Eugene Weatherford. She retired after more than 40 years with Fireman's Fund Insurance Company, and was a member of Sardis Baptist Church. HATMAKER, THELMA RUTH Mrs. Thelma Ruth Hatmaker, 69, of Stockbridge, died Tuesday, Aug. 3, 2004. Payton of Newnan; great-grandchildren, Paul Pitts of Newnan, and Sara Ann and Jack Payton of Newnan. BLAKEY, GROVER H. Mr. Grover H. Blakey, 77, of Jonesboro, passed away Aug. 5, 2004. Mr. Blakey was a member of Bethel Baptist Church in Jonesboro, where he served as the Superintendent of Sunday school classes. He retired from Roadway Express with many faithful years of service. Mr. Blakey was a member of the Masons Dothan Lodge No. 466 F & A.M. He recently received his 50-year pin on March 26, 2004. August 6, 2004 HINKLE, FORREST EUGENE, RET. CSM CSM Forrest Eugene Hinkle RET, 63, died at Southern Regional Medical Center Thursday, Aug. 6, 2004.He was a resident of Clayton County for 19 years. He was born Jan. 23, 1941, in the town of Inez, Martin County, Ky. to the late Joe and Lydia Bowen Hinkle. He attended Inez elementary and graduated from Inez High School in 1959. After graduation he enlisted in the United States Army, completing his 25-year career as a Command Sergeant Major. He attended basic training at Fort Jackson in South Carolina, where he completed his training and then attended school for military police training in 1960. In 1963 he transitioned into the infantry corps. He then completed a tour in Korea during 1963-1964. After his return he successfully completed the non-commissioned officer academy. In 1965, he became a Drill SGT and worked with new recruits until his departure for Vietnam in 1968. He served two tours in Vietnam in 1968-1969 and 1971-1972. His decorations from Vietnam are as follows: Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal w/device 60, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Republic of Vietnam Cross of Gallantry w/Palm (2), Overseas Service Ribbon. After his deployment he returned to Fort Jackson, S.C. and became an instructor for the Drill Sergeant School. He later attended the senior non-commissioned officer command staff course and was promoted to the rank of E-8. He was transferred to Fort Leonard Wood, Miss. in 1975, where he was assigned as First Sergeant of a mechanized Rifle Company. He was responsible for training and supervising company operations. In 1979, he was stationed in Wiesbaden, Germany, where he continued his role as a 1SGT. In 1982 he was promoted to E-9, a Sergeant Major. He attended the command sergeant major course at Fort Bliss, Texas and was transferred to Fort Campbell, Ky. to the 101st Airborne Division. He took the job as the battalion CSM. He retired from the United States Army in April of 1985 with 25 years of service with the decorations and medals as follows: Expert Infantryman Badge, National Defense Service Medal, Combat Infantryman Badge, Overseas Service Ribbon w/3 bars, Army Commendation Medal (1st OLC), Meritorious Service Medal (1st OLC), NCO Professional Development Ribbon (5), Good Conduct Medal (8th award), M-16 RifleQualification Badge (sharpshooter), and a campaign ribbon awarded for Vietnam Counter Offensive Phase IV. After retirement from the Army, he worked in the Civil Service at Fort McPherson for the U.S. Army Reserve Command, Training Division. He retired from service in 2001. CSM Hinkle is survived by his sister, Linda Gayle Arms of Swamp Creek, Ky.; children, Deborah Green of Albany, Ga., Barbara Behling of Orange City, Fla., Forrest E. Hinkle Jr. of Fayetteville, Ga., Diane Froemming of Apoka, Fla., and Amy Selman of Fort Knox, Ky.; grandchildren, Brittany Hinkle, Forrest E. Hinkle III, Jeffery Behling, Shannon Behling, Mckinnsey Froemming, Bridget Froemming, Jacob Froemming, John Selman and Sarah Selman; three nieces and one nephew. August 7, 2004 BELL, HERSCHEL H. Herschel H. Bell, 63, of Locust Grove died Aug. 7, 2004, at a local hospital. Bell served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War. He was a member of the IBEW local 613 in Atlanta and Sharon Baptist Church in McDonough. Bell retired from Cleveland Electric Co. with 20 years of service. He was an avid NASCAR fan and was known to be in front of the television every Sunday to follow his favorite driver Bill Elliott. He is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Bonnie Bell of Locust Grove; mother Mildred Bell of Ellenwood; daughters Daphne Collier of Locust Grove, Cassandra Batson of Locust Grove; son Robert Bell of Locust Grove; three brothers; four sisters; four grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Interment will follow in Sherwood Memorial Park in Jonesboro. REAGAN, ANN ROBINSON Ann Robinson Reagan, 75, of Stockbridge, died Saturday, Aug. 7, 2004, at Henry Medical Center. Reagan was born July 18, 1929, in DeKalb County to the late Warren Clyde Robinson and the late Martha Runell Allen Robinson. She was preceded in death by sons Henry Stephen Reagan and James Warren Reagan; and by a grandson Casey Reagan. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother, and had taught herself the art of sketching and painting, and was a member of Hemphill Presbyterian Church. Survivors include her husband of 54 years, Guy Reagan; children Nancy Reagan Burch and her husband Ronnie of McDonough, Sandra Reagan Polvi and her husband Vince of Stockbridge, Randy and Anita Reagan of Loganville; grandchildren Shelley and Garrett Burch, Jake and Jessica Polvie, Kalie and Hannah Reagan; sister and brother-in-law Marie and Thomas Reagan of Stockbridge; brother and sister-in-law Aubrey and Jane Robinson of McDonough. August 8, 2004 GARMON, DOROTHY JEANETTE Dorothy Jeanette Garmon, 78, of McDonough, died Sunday, Aug. 8, 2004, at the Sacred Journey Hospice. Garmon was born March 26, 1926, in Cobb County to the late William Joseph Cochran and the late Annie Ruth Plunkett Cochran. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jessie Talmadge Garmon, in 1966. She was a homemaker and of the Baptist faith. August 9, 2004 GARMON, MARGARET HOLCOMB Mrs. Margaret Holcomb Garmon, 72, of Stockbridge, Ga. died Aug. 9, 2004, at Emory University Hospital. She was born April 28, 1932, in Rockmart, Ga., daughter of the late Mattie Mae Pierce and George F. Holcomb. She attended Community Bible Church, where she was very active in the Encouragers Sunday School Class. Her husband, Clinton Lee Garmon, preceded Mrs. Garmon in death in 2001. He was a junior at Union Grove High School where he was a member of the Thespian/Drama Club and Honors classes. CARREKER, JOSHUA Joshua Carreker, 18, a resident of Stockbridge, Ga. died Aug. 11, 2004. He was born in Atlanta, Ga. to Elizabeth Annette and Christopher Samuel Carreker. Rogers was born Dec. 17, 1939, in Concord, N.C., the son of the late Irene Louise Killian and Archie Lee Rogers. He was a member of the Teamsters Local No. 728, a devoted husband, father and grandfather. His first wife of 34 years, Audrey Marie Rogers, and a brother, Archie Lee Rogers Jr., preceded him in death. "Tater" Waller, 69, of Stockbridge, passed away Sunday, Aug. 15, 2004, at the Sacred Journey Hospice in Stockbridge. Mr. Waller was born July 25, 1935, in Spalding County, son of the late John Warren Waller and the late Opal Payne Waller. He was a retired Police Captain for the Department of Defense. He served his country in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. He was a member of the VFW for more than 50 years, and was a Mason. He loved to fish and hunt. HOOVER, FLORENCE MAE Florence Mae Hoover died peacefully Tuesday, Aug. 17, 2004, at the age of 89. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold C. Hoover, and her brother, William Fitzgerald.Mrs. Hoover was born in Syracuse, N.Y. and later lived in Ohio, Florida and Georgia. She filled the lives of her family and friends with tenderness, love, compassion and courage. She was a dedicated wife and mother who will always be remembered for her unselfish spirit and sense of humor. She will be greatly missed. Mrs. Hoover requested that her body be donated to Emory University School of Medicine. A memorial service in celebration of her life took place Tuesday evening for the immediate family. August 24, 2004 SAMES, JAMES A. James A. Sams, 69, of Stockbridge died Tuesday, Aug. 24, 2004. A native of Fayette County, Ga., Mr. Sams was an operations manager over mall maintenance, served in the National Guard, and was a member of Cornerstone Baptist Church. August 27, 2004 HANCOCK, JENNIFER RENEE Jennifer Renee Hancock, 19, of McDonough, died Friday, Aug. 27, 2004. She was a first year student at Gordon College in Barnesville, Ga., as well as a retail employee of the McDonough Cracker Barrel. A funeral service and burial will take place in Cabot, Ark. Sept. 1, 2004. A memorial service will be conducted Saturday, Sept. 4 beginning at 10 a.m. at Timberidge Presbyterian Church at 2704 Conyers Road in McDonough, with Pastor Mike Foley officiating. LaMOINE, DON Don LaMoine II, 58, of Jonesboro, died Friday, Aug. 27, 2004. He was the owner of Superior Manufacturing Co. and a former air traffic controller.
