September 3, 2004 RIDGEWAY, SARA C. AUSTIN Sara C. Austin Ridgeway, 83, of McDonough, a lifelong resident of Henry County, died Sept. 3, 2004. She was born in McDonough on Oct. 24, 1920, to the late Ruth Craig and Jim David Austin and was a member of Mt. Bethel United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Ridgeway; daughter, Beverly Jean Ridgeway; and her brother, James Arthur Austin. She is survived by her sister-in-law, Ann P. Austin; niece and nephew, Barbara Ann and Charles Davis; great nieces; great nephew; great-great nieces and cousins. September 4, 2004 STARR, HATTIE LEE Hattie Lee Starr of Stockbridge died Saturday, Sept. 4, 2004, at her residence. Funeral services took place at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 7 in the funeral home chapel. September 6, 2004 JONES, MIRIAM ROBERTS Mrs. Miriam Roberts Jones, 57, of McDonough, Ga. died Monday, Sept. 6, 2004. Mrs. Jones was born June 13, 1947, in Toccoa, Ga. She was a devoted homemaker, loving mother and grandmother. Mrs. Jones was a member of First Baptist Church of Jonesboro and enjoyed all of her church activities. BANKS, PENNY ANN PETERSON Mrs. Penny Ann Peterson Banks, 46, of McDonough, Ga., died Sept. 6, 2004, at her residence. She was born March 20, 1958, in New Haven, Conn., the daughter of Yone Tusda and Buel Peterson of Augusta, Ga.; other survivors are her husband, Ricky Steve Banks of McDonough; children, Christine Banks and Zachary Banks of McDonough, and Melissa Banks of Lovejoy; grandson, Taylor Banks of McDonough; brothers, Charles Peterson, Frank Peterson and Troy Peterson of Augusta; and sister, Cathy Anthon of Augusta. No services are planned at this time. September 7, 2004 Mrs. Mable Juanita Reed, 72, of Jonesboro, Ga., passed away Tuesday, Sept. 7, 2004, at the Henry Medical Center. Mrs. Reed was born in Abingdon, Va. Feb. 22, 1932, to the late Claude Ray Wilson and the late Vivian Beatrice McCuddy Wilson. She was preceded in death by her husband, Roger Lee Reed; and her grandson, Jason Gaylor. Mrs. Reed was a member of the Victory Tabernacle in Conyers. Funeral services for Mrs. Mabel J. September 13, 2004 TALLMAN, STANLEY WARREN Mr. Stanley Warren Tallman, 47, of McDonough, Ga. passed away Monday, Sept. 13, 2004, at Henry Medical Center. He was born Aug. 20, 1957, in Fulton County, son of Delvis Corelle Elliott and Ronald Barnett Tallman. He attended Horizon Pointe Church, enjoyed the outdoors, deer hunting, and was a devoted family man. A brother, Ronald B. Tallman Jr., preceded him in death. A memorial service for Mr. Tallman will begin at 3 p.m. today, Wednesday, Sept. 15 at Horizon Pointe Church with Pastor Ritchie Miller and Chaplain Carl Ryden officiating. MAYS, LOUISE G. Louise G. Mays, 92, a resident of Stockbridge, Ga., died Monday, Sept. 13, 2004. Mrs. Mays was born in Marshallville, Ga., daughter of Casper and Mary Lou Mathis Grant. She met her late husband, A. M. (Dean) Mays, Sr., while visiting family in Stockbridge. Mrs. Mays is well known for her work with many charities and auxiliaries. She worked with the Henry County unit of the American Cancer Society, serving with the Board of Directors for many years. She volunteered as a Pink Lady at Southern Regional Hospital for many years and then with the Henry Medical Center Auxiliary after the hospital opened. Her favorite charity was Our Lady of Perpetual Help. After her children began high school Mrs. Mays attended Georgia State University School of Business and then was employed with Piedmont Hospital, and later worked with Dr. John Ridley. Mrs. Mays was the Past Worthy Matron of the Rex Order of Eastern Star and was named as Citizen of the Year by the Henry County Chamber of Commerce. She was a member of the Stockbridge First United Methodist Church. Mrs. Mays was preceded in death by her son, Dr. A.M. Mays Jr. and is survived by her daughter, Joan Cobb of Stockbridge; grandchildren, Michael Douglas Cobb of Milledgeville, Grant Mays, of California, Mark Mays of Locust Grove, Cheryl Banks, Zolfo Springs, Fla., Melinda Mays of Atlanta, Kelley Mays of Marietta, and Rebecca Mays of Stockbridge. She was a hairdresser and a member of McDonough Church of Christ. Walker, 70, of Locust Grove, formerly of Griffin, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 14, 2004, at the Henry Medical Center. Mr. Walker was born Jan. 30, 1934, in Wheeler County, Ga., to the late James Harris Walker and the late Gertrude Perdue Walker. Mr. Walker retired after 39 years with Northwest Airlines, was a member of Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witness in Griffin, loved fishing, attending computer workshops, and spending time with his family. Mrs. Katherine O. McCurry, 83, of Rex, passed away Tuesday, September 14, 2004 at the A. G. Rhodes Home in Atlanta. Mrs. McCurry was born May 4, 1921 in Fulton County, to the late Cleveland Bartow Scott and the late Flora Leon Morgan Scott. She was preceded in death by a son, Ronald McCurry, and a brother, Harold Scott. She retired after 44 years with Sears and was a 40-year member of the Ellenwood United Methodist Church, and loved working with flowers. MARTIN, JENNIE MAE Mrs. Jennie Mae Wilson Martin, 94, of Hampton, Ga. died Thursday, Sept. 16, 2004, at Sacred Journey Hospice. Mrs. Martin was born Nov. 1, 1909, in Chattooga County, Ga., daughter of the late Hattie Jane Henderson and Judson G. Wilson. She was a member of Liberty Hill Baptist Church, and a devoted homemaker who enjoyed sewing, crocheting, reading, flowers, and grandchildren. Her husband, Willie Frank Martin, preceded her in death in 1944. Survivors are children, Evelyn M. PEREZ-HANEY, LICIZ NIEVES Mrs. Liciz Nieves Perez-Haney of Forest Park, born in Havana, Cuba Oct. 19, 1954, died Thursday, Sept. 16, 2004. Liciz immigrated to the United States in 1970, and became a citizen in 1978. She is survived by a daughter, Mr. and Mrs. James (Amaris) Motes; son, Mr. and Mrs. Roger (Melissa S.) Haney; grandchildren, Arcadia L. O'Neal, James C. Motes, Chloe M. Haney and Aidan C. Haney; sister, Maritza L Cuesta and Daysi C. Lara; nieces and nephews, Martha R. September 20, 2004 ELLIOTT, ROBERT "BOB" FLETCHER Mr. Robert "Bob" Fletcher Elliott, 80, of McDonough, Ga. died Monday, Sept. 20, 2004, at Henry Medical Center. Mr. Elliott was born Jan. 26, 1924, in McDonough, Ga., son of the late Rachael Henry Elliott and Robert Fletcher Elliott. He was a member of First Baptist Church of McDonough, retired as a lawyer with Hartford Insurance Company, graduated from Boys High School of Atlanta in 1941, and Atlanta Law School, served his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II as a Navy Pilot, enjoyed photography, skeet shooting and fellowship with friends and family. His wife, Betty Burch Elliott of McDonough; children, Ted Elliott of McDonough, Art and Laura Elliott of McDonough and Steve and Denise Elliott of Lizella, Ga.; five grandchildren and several nieces and nephews survive Mr. Elliott. September 24, 2004 HUGGINS, LARRY FRED Mr. Larry Fred Huggins, 64, of McDonough, died Friday, Sept. 24, 2004, at Southern Regional Medical Center. He was born Oct. 26, 1939 in Pine Grove, West Va., son of the late Garnet Mae Fluharty and George Fred Huggins. He was a member of Pine Grove Methodist Church, graduated Pine Grove High School Class of 1957, served his country in the U.S. Navy, and had worked for Caterpillar Company for more than 25 years. Mr. Huggins enjoyed photography, flowers, lighthouses and his pets. September 28, 2004 YATES, GLENN DOYLE "RED" Glenn Doyle "Red" Yates, 71, of Molena, Ga. died Tuesday, Sept. 28, 2004, at his home. Mr. Yates was a U.S. Navy veteran, a Delta Air Lines retiree, and owner of D-n-T Custom Tees. He was also a dedicated and talented musician, specializing in bluegrass as a member of "Brushfire." He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary A. "Toni" Yates. The funeral service will begin at 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 3 at McKoon Funeral Home, with Father Karl Duggan and Pastor Charles Bennett officiating. Interment will follow at Westminster Memorial Gardens in Peachtree City, Ga. He is deeply loved and will be profoundly missed. Survivors include his daughters, Teresa Hobbs of Jonesboro, Deb Salter of Jonesboro and Sandra Salter of Jonesboro; sons, David Yates of Jonesboro and Alan Yates of Atlanta; sisters, Shirley Holloway of Austell, Ga. and Helen Horne of Franklin, Ga.; six grandchildren; one great-grandchild; numerous extended family and friends. September 29, 2004 PARNELL, EDITH MARIA Edith Maria Parnell of Stockbridge passed away Wednesday, Sept. 29, 2004.
