He was the grandson of the late Mr. and Mrs. W.M. Patterson and Mr. and Mrs. W.R. Branan, and a member of Bethany Baptist Church. He is survived by his parents, Travis and Nell Patterson; aunts and uncles, Byron and Peggy Patterson, Joe and Jane Patterson, Harold and Kay Branan, Harry and Annelle Branan, Trudi and Don Garrard; and several cousins. Interment will follow at Eastlawn Memorial Park. BENNETT, JONATHAN WAYNE Mr. Jonathan Wayne Bennett , 36, of Cleveland passed away Monday, Nov. 1, 2004. Mr. Bennett was employed by Cargill as an electrician and was of the Baptist faith. He is preceded in death by his father, Johnny Bennett. November 3, 2004 SHEFFIELD, WILLIAM BENJAMIN William Benjamin Sheffield, 74, of McDonough, Ga. died Wednesday, Nov. 3, 2004. He was born in Chamblee, Ga. to Roy Lee and Ruth Jeannette (Gay) Sheffield. Mr. Sheffield was formerly the owner of Sheffield Pharmacy in Atlanta and retired with Moyes Pharmacy in Henry County. He was a member of the Salem Baptist Church and an Army Veteran of the Korean conflict. Mr. Sheffield enjoyed golfing, fishing, woodworking and was an avid Bulldog fan, but most important to him was family. Survivors include his wife, Grace; children, Laurie and Gary Carpenter of McDonough, Lynn and Steve Scott of Locust Grove, Ben and Bobbi Sheffield of McDonough; sister, Betty and Foy Johnston of Tucker; six grandchildren, Matt and Emily Fleming, Rachael Fleming, Ashley Carpenter, Andy Carpenter, and Caleb Sheffield; one great-grandson, Caden Fleming. Interment will follow at Salem Baptist Church Cemetery. November 4, 2004 STEELE, LUCILLE MULKEY Mrs. Lucille Mulkey Steele, 81, died Thursday, Nov. 4, 2004. Lucille was the daughter of the late Jacob Marion Mulkey and the late Edith Estell Truelove Mulkey. She was born May 2, 1923, in Fitzgerald, Ga. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joe W. Steele of Hampton, Ga. Interment will follow in Berea Cemetery. November 5, 2004 WIESNESKI, JOSEPH EDWARD Mr. Joseph Edward Wiesneske, 75, of McDonough passed away Friday, Nov. 5, 2004, at the Sacred Journey Hospice. Mr. Wiesneske was born Jan. 26, 1929, in Wausau, Wis., to the late Joseph Andrew Wiesneske and the late Martha Kolasinske Wiesneske. He was preceded in death by a sister, Clara Panesi, and brothers Lawrence, Donald and Edward Wiesneske. He was a retired carpenter and was a member of St. James the Apostle Catholic Church. According to his wishes, Mr. Wiesneske has been cremated. A memorial service will be conducted at a later date. DONALDSON, EVELYN Mrs. Evelyn Donaldson, 83, of Stockbridge, Ga. passed away Monday, Nov. 8, 2004, at her residence. Mrs. Donaldson was born Jan. 26, 1918, in Eatonton, Ga. to the late Nathaniel Tolbert and the late Maude Dorsey Tolbert. She was preceded in death by her sisters, Laurilla T. Brumbalow, and Cora and Bertha Audrey. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 47 years, Robert William Donaldson, whom she met while living at the Georgia Baptist Children's Home in Hapeville, Ga. She was a member of the South Bend United Methodist Church and, along with her husband, owned and operated the Donaldson School Bus Company in Atlanta. November 9, 2004 SKELTON, MYRTIS Myrtis Skelton, 60, of Locust Grove died Tuesday, Nov. 9, 2004. She was born in Atlanta, Ga. to the late Sarah Myrtis and Sam Gardner and enjoyed riding motorcycles, raising her family, and caring for others. She was employed with Paul Davis Restoration and was a bus driver with the Henry County School System. November 10, 2004 WHITEHEAD, GEORGE L. Mr. George L. Whitehead, 86, of Stockbridge, died Wednesday, Nov. 10, 2004. He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Jacqueline (Jackie) Whitehead of Stockbridge; son, Chet Drake of Biloxi, Miss.; daughter, Connie and George Johnson of Rex; four grandchildren, five great-grandchildren; sister, Virgie Guffin of Jackson, Ga.; brothers, Hilliard Whitehead of Miami, Fla. and Olin Whitehead of Ft. A Bronze Star recipient of World War II, Mr. Whitehead retired from the Army Reserves after more than 30 years and was a retired meat cutter from Kroger and Fort Gillem. He was a member of Masonic Lodge 691 and was the first recipient of the Bethel UMC Men's Club Award. As a resident of Swan Lake, he played Santa Claus at the Community Center for many years. JARVIS, R.W. (B0B) R. W. (Bob) Jarvis, 71, of Stockbridge, Ga. died Wednesday, Nov. 10, 2004. He was born in New Albany, Miss. to Robert Lafayette and Mary Lou (Sanford) Jarvis. Mr. Jarvis was a retired Teamsters Truck Driver who enjoyed spending time with family and friends, especially at reunions. Bob loved to fish, hunt, travel and to read. He was a dedicated worker and enjoyed his time driving. His wife, Hilda Juanita Jarvis, preceded him in death. November 11, 2004 STEPHENS, FRANCES TURNER Mrs. Frances Turner Stephens, 94, of McDonough died Thursday, Nov. 11, 2004, at Portsbridge Hospice in Conyers. She was born Aug. 13, 1910, in Henry County, daughter of the late Lavenia Daune George and Wade Hampton Turner Sr. Mrs. Stephens was a member of First Christian Church of Decatur, and she had been employed by Aetna Insurance Company for more than 20 years. She resided at Wesley Woods Towers Retirement Center for 11 years, and then at Silverleaf Personal Care Center of Conyers. Mrs. Stephens was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Douglas Stephens, a State Farm Insurance Agent, and brothers, John Bassett Turner and Zed Monroe Turner. MIKELS, JOHN MALCOLM Mr. John Malcolm Mikels Sr., 92, of Jonesboro died Thursday, Nov. 11, 2004, at Cornerstone Nursing Home. He was born July 26, 1912, in Bentonville, Ind., son of the late Amanda Ann Brannaman and James Nineva Mikels. He was of the Baptist faith, a member of a St. Louis Masonic Lodge and enjoyed fishing and his family. He was preceded in death by his wife, Oneta Mikels, in 1999, and a daughter, Jacqueline Rowland, in 1997. WILSON, MOSES LAMAR Mr. Moses Lamar Wilson of Huntsville, Ala. and formerly of Locust Grove, Ga. died Thursday, Nov. 11, 2004. He was born in Locust Grove, son of the late Bessie Rosser Wilson and John Lamar Wilson. He was a member of First Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Huntsville, Ala. He graduated from Locust Grove High School and North Georgia College, served his country in the U.S. Army, retired with more than 35 years with NASA as an aeronautics engineer, and was a member of Huntsville Eastern Star and Masonic Lodge. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Ellen Hood Wilson, on June 26, 2004. Funeral services will begin at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 16 at Locust Grove United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Interment will follow at Sherwood Memorial Park. BARTLETT, RALPH MURPHY Mr. Ralph Murphy Bartlett Sr., 79, of Jenkinsburg, Ga. died Nov. 13, 2004 at Southern Regional Medical Center. Mr. Bartlett was born on Feb. 21, 1925 in Fulton County, the son of the late Ellen Virginia Patillo and James Homer Bartlett. He enjoyed fishing, bird watching, coin collecting, his cats and being with his loving family. Mr. Bartlett served his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II and the U.S. Army during the Korean War and retired from IBEW Local 613 with 55 plus years. Mr. Bartlett was preceded in death by a sister, Virginia sizemore, and brothers, Wimp Bartlett and T.A. Bartlett. Mr. Coker was born Feb. 14, 1951, in Gwinnett County, Ga. to the late James Eugene Coker and the late Mary Annette Brooks Coker. He was preceded in death by a brother, Cramer Coker. He served his country in the U.S. Army, was a truck driver for Nestle's, a member of True Christian Fellowship Church, and was an avid bass fisherman. November 19, 2004 ROBINSON, MARIE Mrs. Marie Robinson of Williamson, Ga. passed away Friday, Nov. 19, 2004. Mrs. Robinson was preceded in death by her husband, Mr. Roy Haynes Robinson. Mrs. Robinson retired as a sergeant from the Spalding County Sheriff's Department at the age of 70. She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star in Riverdale 446. Mrs. Robinson was also a member of the Chief Cornerstone Ministries in Flovilla, Ga. She was born May 7, 1935 in Rutherford County, N.C. to the late George Hampton Conner and the late Ora Lee Wilson Conner. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Marvin Mosley, a son, Roy Mosley and a sister, Edith Armstrong. Mrs. Ida Jane Lipham Elliott, 99, of Frankfort, Ky. and formerly of Ga. died Sunday, Nov. 21, 2004. She was born Oct. 1, 1905, daughter of the late Sarah Jane Arrington and Henry Ross Lipham. She was a member of First Baptist Church of McDonough since 1940, a past president of Business and Professional Woman's Club, and Daughters of the Confederacy. BALLARD, ALICE JOSEPHINE Mrs. Alice Josephine "Jo" Ballard, 76, of Luella, Ga. passed away Sunday, Nov. 21, 2004, at Sacred Journey Hospice in McDonough, Ga. A life-long resident of Henry County, Jo was born in Hampton, Ga. Feb. 12, 1928, to the late Arthur D. Henderson and Oma Stephenson Henderson. She was a graduate of Hampton High School and Bessie Tift College, and was a member of the Luella Baptist Church. Mrs. Ballard was preceded in death by her husband of 46 years, Morris Allen "Ted" Ballard in 1997. November 22, 2004 MONTGOMERY, GREG Greg Montgomery, 52 of Portsmouth, Va., formerly of Stockbridge, Ga., passed away Monday, Nov. 22, 2004. Mr. Montgomery was born in Cookville, Tenn. When he was 6 months old his family moved to Detroit, Mich. Then they moved to Georgia in 1956. In 1959 his family moved to Stockbridge, and in 1978 Mr. Montgomery moved to Venice, Fla. Greg worked for McCarthy Construction Co. for 23 years. In November of 1981, Greg went to work with McCarthy as a laborer, where he worked his way up to project manager. While with McCarthy's he worked at different locations lasting from 1 to 3 years, mostly on the eastern side of the United States. He enjoyed riding his Harley, he loved to ride on the weekends and at bike rallies with friends. Last year he was able to ride to Sturgis, S.D. for the Big Bike Rally with his wife and friends. Greg is predeceased by his father, Charles L. Montgomery, and his sister, Patricia Ann Montgomery. He is survived by his wife, Janet M. Montgomery; two daughters, Michele Jean Montgomery and Meadow Ann Montgomery; two sons, Gregory Shane Montgomery and Michael David Montgomery, all of Venice, Fla.; mother, Rita Lastigue Montgomery of Stockbridge, Ga.; three brothers, Bruce S. and Mary Ellen Montgomery and Gary and Peggy Montgomery of Stockbridge, Ga. and Clark Montgomery of Lake Worth, Fla.; three grandchildren, Tyler " T.J." Charles Harvey Basler Sr. died peacefully Monday, Nov. 22, 2004, at home in Stockbridge, Ga., surrounded by loved ones. Charles was born Sept. 10, 1917, in Petros, Tenn. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 63 years, Melba June Hart Basler, his parents, Harvey Alexander Basler and Millie Cox Basler of Petros, Tenn., a sister, Thelma Basler Davis of Rockmart, Ga., brothers, Archie, of Indiana, J. T., of Tullahoma, Tenn., and Willie Dean of Petros, Tenn. Babe, as he was known to his family and friends, is also survived by many cousins, nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. Babe was of the Baptist faith. He had a beautiful voice and took great pleasure in singing in church, on the lake fishing, or in the car with the family. Babe grew up in Petros, during the Depression, and worked in the coal mines for a time. He spent many years of his adult life in Knoxville, Tenn. where he worked for Kraft Foods. He was transferred to Decatur, Ga. in 1967. He retired and spent many years with his family and his bird dogs. Babe will always be remembered as a solid, plain spoken, working man who would help anyone in need and could fix anything. Mrs. Simmons was an active member of McDonough Christian Church, she was employed by Image Builders Advertising Specialties of McDonough, and was known for always helping others and enjoying her family and friends. November 27, 2004 NELSON, EVERETT DAVIS "ED" Mr. Everett Davis "Ed" Nelson, age 73, of McDonough, Ga., died Saturday, November 27, 2004 at Henry Medical Center. Mr. Nelson was born Oct. 3, 1931 in Fulton County, the son of the late Gaynell Araine Hales and Otis Nelson. He graduated from Brown High School Class of 1949, served his country in the U.S. Navy on an aircraft carrier in the Korean War, worked as a printer for Clark/American Co. He enjoyed gospel music, good humor and being with his family. A brother, Edward Nelson, preceded him in death.
