All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm January 1, 2005 McGARITY, ARCHIE CHESTER Mr. Archie Chester McGarity, age 96, of McDonough, died Jan. 1, 2005 at Henry Medical Center. Mr. McGarity was born in McDonough, the son of the late Elizabeth Bonner and James McGarity. Mr. Archie was a lifelong resident of McDonough, where he was self- employed and owned his own service station. He was the oldest living member of First Baptist Church of McDonough, where he served as secretary of Sunday School for 25 years, from 1962-87. He served on the Henry County Board of Commissioners from 1955-57. His wife Louise Stewart McGarity preceded Mr. Archie in death in 1995. Survivors are his daughters and sons-in-law, Catherine and Jim Firebaugh, and Sharon and Joe Anderson, all of McDonough; grandchildren, Martain and Mickey Stanley, Jim Firebaugh, Stan Firebaugh, Brian and Tracy Anderson, and Kristi and Wade Langston; and great-grandchildren, Mhari Patterson, Kasey Firebaugh, Harrison Firebaugh and Jack Anderson. Interment will be at Haisten/Eastlawn Memorial Gardens. January 2, 2005 BAIRD, CLIFFORD E. Clifford E. Baird, affectionately known as Cliff, Paul, Red, Uncle "P," Captain, and most importantly, Grandbear," 75, of Stockbridge, Ga. died Sunday, Jan. 2, 2005. A native of Broadnax, Va. and a 40-year resident of Jonesboro, he served proudly in the United States Air Force during the Korean War. An aviation enthusiast from the age of 16, he became a flight instructor in Greensboro, N.C. and then moved to Atlanta in 1960 to realize his dream of becoming a commercial pilot. After 26 years of service with Southern/Republic Airlines, he retired in 1986, and continued to fly for pleasure. A brave man with a tremendous sense of humor, a love of family and a deep faith, he touched the lives of many who were fortunate to have crossed his path. With a zest for life, he took up riding wave-runners at the ripe age of 70. He loved to fish, watch the Atlanta Braves, fly sailplanes, and nap in his favorite recliner when he wasn't busy tinkering with his private airplane he affectionately called "Champ." Loved by his family and friends, respected by his students and welcomed by all, he made the world a better place just by being in it. He was preceded in death by Dianne C. Baird, his first wife of 29 years. He is survived by loving spouse Judith H. Baird, and children Andrea Baird Allen and Peter B. Allen of Lawrenceville, Ellen Baird Rozar and Tim Rozar of Locust Grove, and Judge Michael P. Baird of Jonesboro; stepchildren, Jennifer D. and Matthew Sayad of Mableton and Jeffrey L. and Kelly Davidson of Nashville, Tenn.; grandchildren, Elise M. Allen, Clifford A. (Cal) Rozar, and Christopher. Interment will follow at Camp Memorial Park at 2 p.m. January 3, 2005 RAPE, FLORENCE ODIS GARNER Mrs. Florence Odis Garner Rape, 98, of McDonough, Ga. (Ola Community) died Monday, Jan. 3, 2005, at Henry Medical Center. Mrs. Rape was born Sept. 23, 1906, in Henry County, daughter of the late Magnolia Haynes and John Harrison Garner. She was a member of Sharon Baptist Church, she enjoyed cooking, flowers and taking care of her animals and being a care giver to her family. Her husband, William Franklin Rape, preceded Mrs. Rape in death in 1991. Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Larry and Ann Rape of Locust Grove; granddaughter and her husband, Melissa and Mark Murphy of McDonough; great-grandchild, Torrie Murphy of McDonough; nieces, nephews and great nieces and great nephews. Interment will follow at Haisten/Eastlawn Memorial Park. CONINE, ODESSA Mrs. Odessa Conine, 94, of Stockbridge died Monday, Jan. 3, 2005. Survivors include her loving husband of 73 years, Carl W. Conine; sons, Bill Conine and wife Daisy, and Earl H. Conine and wife Lee, both of Cumming; daughter, Catherine Crossland and husband Joe of Rex; son-in-law, Bill Ballard of Stockbridge; grandchildren, Wileen Dudley and husband Rick of Stockbridge, Denise Kester and husband Bob of Rome, Ind., Barry and Blake Ballard of Stockbridge, DeAnne Owens and husband Billy of Kingston, Ga., Steve Crossland and wife Sylvia of Austin, Texas, and Mike Crossland and wife Melissa of Sherman, Texas; 15 great-grandchildren; four great great-grandchildren. Mrs. Conine was the oldest of 11 siblings. Surviving are her sisters, Louise Mitchell of Moultrie, Sara Watts of Rex, Edna Starnes and husband Edwin of Concorde, N.C. and Martha Gunter and husband Bill of Buford. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Carleen Ballard, and two grandsons, Bruce Ballard and Earl "Buddy" Conine Jr. Mrs. Conine was a member of Stockbridge Assembly of God. She and her husband were long-time members of the Top of GA Airstream Club and MAFC. As a young woman she became one of the first female Street Car Drivers in downtown Atlanta. January 4, 2005 WARD, CHERRY LYNN Cherry Lynn Ward, 41, of Lineville, Ala., passed away Tuesday, Jan. 4, 2005. She is survived by children, Brandi Ward of Hampton, Jennifer Waldrop of Stockbridge, Brittany Ward of Hampton; brothers, Charles Rousey of Conyers and Ricky Rousey of Lineville, Ala.; sisters, Barbara Mitchell of Lineville, Ala., and Renee Vaughan of Stockbridge; and six grandchildren. COFER, GLEDYS LOUISE Gledys Louise Cofer, 80, of Covington, died Tuesday, Jan. 4, 2005 at Covington Manor Nursing Home. She was the daughter of the late Sidney Earl and Debbie Ann Spradley Gardner, and attended Calvary Baptist Church. Mrs. Cofer enjoyed the simple things in life and found contentment in the summer shade sharing stories of times past. She taught her family to be independent, to have a good work ethic and that you are never too old to learn something new. Mrs. Cofer enjoyed collecting Beanie Babies, surfing the Net and receiving digital photographs of her family. She delighted in the smiles and laughter of the little ones and in the accomplishments of her grown children and grandchildren. Mrs. Cofer was a loving mother, grandmother and great- grandmother, and she will be missed dearly. Her family takes comfort in the fact that she is in the presence of Jesus Christ and is now reunited with her mother, whom she loved so dearly. Mrs. Cofer was preceded in death by the fathers of her children, David Shattah and Albert Martz. Surviving Mrs. Cofer are her husband, Sam Cofer, Covington; daughter, Rachel Ann Shattah, Stockbridge; son and daughter-in-law, John and Julia Martz, Covington; grandchildren, Emory Christopher Sikes, Deborah Swofford, Lisa Stepps, Kathy Whitehead, Julie Martz and 10 great- grandchildren. Interment will follow in Lawnwood Memorial Park. BAKER, HENRY P. Henry P. Baker, age 57, of Stockbridge, Ga. died Jan. 4, 2005. Mr. Baker was born in Columbus, Ga., June 29, 1947 son of William Lloyd and Frances Paris Baker. He was a member of Stockbridge First Baptist Church, former member of Glen Haven Baptist Church and had previously been employed with J.R. Bowman Company. Henry Baker is survived by his mother Frances of Tucker, sisters; Cheryl Dammann, Fort Mill, S.C., Sue Baker, Cumming, Ga., brother; Bill Baker, Jr., Daytona Beach, Fla., aunt; Julia Paris, East Point, Ga.,and two nephews. Interment will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery, Newnan, Ga. 2 p.m. KING, MIKE Mike King, 57, of Stockbridge, died Jan. 4, 2005. Mr. King was the owner of Universal Ornamental Iron Inc., Conyers. He was an avid fly-fisherman, a private pilot and a Vietnam Veteran. Survivors include his wife, Janey King; father, Ernest W. King Stockbridge; brother, Aubrey King and wife Joyce, Lawrenceville; aunt, Leila Williams and husband Bob, Lilburn; aunt Betty Page, Samford, Conn.; father-in-law, Bob Walker, Lilburn; many other beloved family members. SNOWDEN, CHANDLER LADELL Mr. Chandler Ladell Snowden, 85, of Jonesboro died Tuesday, Jan. 4, 2005. Mr. Snowden is survived by his loving wife, Margie Snowden; sons, Wendell Snowden and Harold Snowden; daughters, Patricia Henderson and Veronica Diane Sims; 22 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. Burial will be in the Sherwood Memorial Gardens. January 5, 2005 CARGILE, DOROTHY N. Dorothy N. Cargile, 78, of Stockbridge, Ga., died Jan. 5, 2005. She loved gardening, watching the Food Network and Animal Planet, and her dog Rosie. Dorothy Cargile is survived by daughters, Terri Revis of Pendleton, S.C., Susan Ferguson of Albany, Ga., Lindee Pace of Conley, Ga.; grandchildren, Joi Adams of Stockbridge, Ga., Gina Adams of Stockbridge, Ga., Cliff Donald, of Chatham, Ill., Johnny Donald, of Springfield, Mo., Shelli Gunter, of Townville, S.C., Dotti Donley of Greenville, S.C., Ginny Pace of Statesboro, Ga.; sisters, Katie Pittman of McDonough, Ga., Mary McHugh of Fayetteville, Ga.; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Interment will follow at Westview Cemetery. SIKES, DONALD F. Donald F. Sikes, 74, owner and operator of J-Kel industries, dies on Jan. 5, 2005, following a long nd courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. At the time of his death, he was in hospice at the home of his sister and mother in Locust Grove. He was born March 15, 1930 in Atlanta, Ga. to the late Roy F. Sikes and Marie Fields Sikes Johnson. He recognized McKenzie Johnson, his stepfather, as his real father. He attended Atlanta Public Schools through the eighth grade. While in military service, he trained as a machinist. After military service, he obtained further machinist training and earned his high school GED at Atlanta Area Technical School. He was in military service from Aug. 28, 1947 to March 16, 1948 and Dec. 1, 1948 to Nov. 30, 1949 where he served in the Army Air Corps in Japan as part of the post World War II Occupational Force and from March 10, 1951 to Nov. 7,1952 where he served in the Air Force stationed in Okinawa. He attained the rank of Sergeant and was awarded the Korean and United Nations Service Medals. On July 4, 1953 he was united in marriage to Monica Joan Ray in Atlanta. Upon marriage, Don and Monica established their home in Atlanta and lived there until 1974 when they relocated to Moreland, Ga. Don was employed as a machinist at Cox Foundry in Atlanta from 1952 until its closure in 1987. Monica became ill in 1985 and soon was wheelchair bound, unable to attend to her own needs. With that situation and a mentally challenged daughter at home, Don know he could no longer work outside this home. In 1987, he opened J-Kel Industries, a home-based business. Until his own illness prevented him from doing do, he lovingly and devotedly took care of his wife, child and business. Don was a lifetime member of the Cascade Elk Lodge #1613 in Atlanta. Prior to the illness of his wife, he fully participated in Elk functions and charity events and had risen to the Chair of Exhalted Leader. Monica's illness caused him to curtail Elk activities in favor of his family. Don is survived by his wife, Monica; his son, Donald Ted Sikes; his daughter Teri Ann Sikes; two grandchildren, Jason M. Sikes of Lovejoy and Keli N. Sikes of Forest Park, his mother, Marie F. Johnson of Locust Grove, one sister, Dorothy Marie Bryant (Mrs. Rufus A.) of Locust Grove. Other survivors include sister-in-law and husband, Patty and Frank Thornton, nieces and nephews. In addition to McKenzie Johnson, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Kenneth and Roy Jr. Entombment will follow at Sherwood Memorial Gardens. BEVIL, EZRA PAUL JR. Ezra Paul Bevil, Jr., 80, of Locust grove, died Jan. 5,2005 at Henry Medical Center. Mr. Bevil was born Sept. 1, 1924 in Williamson, Ga., the son of the late Mattielena Bevil and Ezra Paul Bevil Sr. He was a member of Morrow Presbyterian Church, served his country in the Korean War and enjoyed fishing, woodworking, hunting and traveling. He is survived by his wife, Josephine Colwell Bevil, Locust Grove; daughter, Treva Bevil, Locust grove; son, Bartow Bevil of Locust Grove; grandsons, Patrick Bevil of Atlanta and Culley Bevil of Locust Grove; sister, Doshia Barham of McDonough; nieces and nephews. Interment will be at Oakhill Cemetery in Griffin. January 6, 2005 MOORE, BETTY JO Betty Jo Moore, 85, of Stockbridge, Ga., died Jan. 6, 2005. Mrs. Moore was born in San Antonio, Texas, Aug. 16, 1919. She was an Episcopalian, and retired as a sales clerk. Survivors include children, Patricia Moore Dickens of Stockbridge, Ga., Jacqueline Batchelor Black of Columbus, Ga., and Gary Garner Moore Jr. of Setauket, N.Y. January 7, 2005 WHITAKER, EPPIE ROZELLE Eppie Rozelle Whitaker, 84, of McDonough, Ga. died Friday, Jan. 7, 2005. Miss Whitaker was born June 20, 1920, in Henry County, daughter of the late Julia Mae Sowell and Samuel Marcus Whitaker. She was a member of Philadelphia United Methodist Church. She enjoyed word puzzles and had worked as a secretary in her early years for an Aeronautical Company. Miss Whitaker was preceded in death by her parents, sister, Olive Whitaker Austin, brothers -in-law, Sam B. Austin and Charles Crumbley; great niece, Jacquelynn Marie Faulkner. Survivors are her sister, Ruth Whitaker Crumbley of McDonough; niece, Annette Austin Pruett of McDonough; nephews, Sammy Austin of Stockbridge, Jimmy Austin of McDonough, and Donald Austin and Larry Austin of Locust Grove; several great and great great nieces and nephews. A private interment will be at Philadelphia United Methodist Church Cemetery. GERMANY, ELIZABETH (BETTY) Elizabeth (Betty) Jean Roth Germany of Stockbridge passed away on Friday, Jan. 7, 2005. She was the wife of Col. James C. Germany, and they had been married 59 years. Betty was born in Indianapolis, Ind., on March 17, 1924 to Bill and Anna Roth. During World War II, she worked in a defense plant in Indianapolis and helped make the highly secret "Norden Bombsight." This bombsight was used in the bombers that dropped the atomic bombs on Japan. She was Active in community affairs, attending many ballgames in which her children played. She was Treasurer of the State of Georgia Reserve Officers Association Ladies for more than 15 years. She was a lifetime Catholic and was a member of St. James the Apostle Catholic Church in McDonough. She is survived by her husband, James Cecil Germany Jr.; and six children, Judith (John) Bender, Jimmy Germany, Jack Germany, Jeffrey Germany, Joel Germany, and Jerome (Jennifer) Germany. Also, eight grandchildren, Jessica (Shane) Giddens, Jarrod Bender, Justin Germany, Joseph Germany, Jill (Harvey) Reagan, Jerel Germany, Jacob Germany and Josh Germany; three great-grandchildren, Jacey, Jayla and Jenna Giddens; sisters, Peggy Roth and Joan Holzer; brothers, William F. Mr. Aaron Eugene "Gene" Garrett Sr., 68, of McDonough passed away Monday, Jan. 10, 2005, at the Southern Regional Medical Center. Mr. Garrett was born April 3, 1936, in Plant City, Fla. to the late Cledia Dell Burgess and the late Elisha Garrison Garrett. He was a retired truck driver, member of the Teamsters, was of the Baptist faith, served his country in the U.S. Army, and loved camping. He was a member of Fraternal Lodge 37 McDonough, and the Yaarab Temple Shriners. Mr. John Ellis "Bill" Mayo Sr., 85, of McDonough, Ga. died Monday, Jan. 10, 2005, at Southern Regional Medical Center. Mr. Mayo was born Sept. 29, 1919, in Henry County, son of the late Lolie Wilkerson and James Dallas Mayo. He served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II, worked as a farmer, and retired from Henry County Board of Education. He was a carpenter, and enjoyed playing ball and watching the Braves and being with his grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Karen McEver; brother, Marion Mayo; and sisters, Mary Garner, Florence LeCroy and Lillie Mae Brannan. Survivors are his wife of 65 years, Mrs. Etta Mae Lane Mayo of McDonough; son and daughter-in-law, Ellis and Sherry Mayo of McDonough; sister, Ruth Mayo of McDonough; brothers, David Mayo of Griffin and J.D. Walden Ballew Burtz, 65, of Stockbridge died Tuesday, Jan. 11, 2005. Born in Fannin County, Mrs. Burtz worked as an insurance adjuster. She was a member of Sharon Baptist Church in Smyrna. January 12, 2005 MALOY, THELMA IMOGENE SIMPSON Mrs. Thelma Imogene Simpson Maloy, 72, of Locust Grove, Ga., died Wednesday, Jan. 12, 2005, at Southern Regional Medical Center. Mrs. Maloy was born May 9, 1932, in Chattooga County, daughter of the late Myrtle Dell Peace and William Albert Simpson. Mrs. Maloy had retired with 48 years from Genuine Parts Company as a bookkeeper. She enjoyed her grandchildren, reading and shopping. Mrs. Maloy was preceded in death by her husband, Bobby Jack Maloy, in 1982. Interment will follow at College Park Cemetery. PRINCE, GEORGIA HAMPTON Mrs. Georgia Hampton Prince, 101, of Hampton, Ga. died Wednesday, Jan. 12. 2005, at the Jonesboro Nursing Rehab. Mrs. Prince was born April 3, 1903, in Brasstown, N.C., daughter of the late Martha Green and the late Meritt Allison Hampton. She was preceded in death by her husband, Thurston Prince. She worked at the first Krystal in Atlanta and remembered when they sold Krystal hamburgers for seven cents. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church, where she was active until this last year. Survivors include nieces and nephews, Katherine Ayers, Eva Nell Hughes, Polly Graham, Jim Rice, Lavon Prince, Frank Scoggs, Minnie Couch, Charlene Thomas, Mattie Scoggs, Mary Lou Holcomb, and Kenneth Rice. Interment will follow at Sherwood Memorial Park. RUSSELL, TALITHA MINTER Talitha Minter Russell, 77, of McDonough passed away Wednesday, Jan. 12, 2005, at the Henry Medical Center. Mrs. Russell was born May 22, 1922, in Henry County to the late Ray Eugene Minter and the late Naomi P. Hayes Minter. She was a 1944 graduate of McDonough High School, attended Tift College, and was named Georgia Homemaker of the Year in 1964. She was campaign manager for Carl Sanders in Henry and surrounding counties. In 1964, Sanders named her as a delegate to the Democratic National Convention, where she was invited to a White House reception hosted by Ladybird Johnson. In 1970, she took a lobbying position with the Georgia Society of Ophthalmology, and later served as executive director of the Medical Association of Georgia Auxiliary. In 1997, she became a bailiff for Henry County Superior Court. Mrs. Russell was a member of the Timberridge Presbyterian Church, American Legion Auxiliary, enjoyed spending time at Jekyll Island, cooking and flowers. Survivors include children, Ray and Becky Russell, Janet and Shane Shellnutt, Bill Russell, and Beth and Danny Steele, all of McDonough; grandchildren, Scott Russell, Katie Russell, Lauren Dail, Hope Shellnutt, J.T. "Billy" Clarke of Jonesboro died Thursday, Jan. 13, 2005, at Christian Ministries Hospice. He was formerly Police Chief of Clayton County and was a member of Jonesboro Masonic Lodge 87 F&AM. Interment follows at Forest Hills Memorial Gardens. Survivors include his wife, Ruth Y. Clarke; daughters, Ann M. Clarke of Jonesboro, Candy C. Teague of Jonesboro, and Dicksie C. WOOLF, LAWRENCE P., JR. Mr. Lawrence P. Woolf Jr., 76, from Jonesboro passed away Friday, Jan. 14, 2005. Mr. Woolf served as a Marine Corps corporal. He served in World War II in Japan. Mr. Woolf is retired from Jonesboro Housing Authority and served as an inspector for HUD. Mr. Woolf was a member of Parents Without Partners and a former volunteer for the Jonesboro Fire Department. CHAFIN, IRMA FEAGLE Mrs. Irma Feagle Chafin, age 87, of McDonough, died Jan. 29, 2005, at Dogwood Forest Assisted Living at Eagle's Landing of Stockbridge. Mrs. Chafin was born April 1, 1917, in Lake City, Fla., the daughter of the late Nora Toney and Daniel Marshal Feagle. Mrs. Chafin graduated from Columbia High School Class of 1935 of Lake City, Fla. She was a member of McDonough Presbyterian Church, worked as a supervisor for Georgia State Merit Employment Service Division, co-owned McDonough Cleaners and Laundry, which was later called Chafin Cleaners, was an avid golfer at Green Valley Golf Club, winning local and statewide tournaments, was a member of McDonough Women's Club, Elks Club and Moose Club, was a Henry County Fair Volunteer, assisted with American Legion functions, was a volunteer with the LPGA Chick-fil-A tournament in the hospitality suite, was a member of a local travel club, and enjoyed gardening and sharing her flowers with others, china painting and cooking. Mrs. Chafin was preceded in death by her husband, William Aiken Chafin Sr. on July 12, 1989. January 20, 2005 SCHWANTES, BETTY LOUISE ROWE Mrs. Betty Louise Rowe Schwantes, 69, of Locust Grove, Ga. peacefully passed away at home Thursday, Jan. 20, 2005, from complications of breast cancer. Betty was born June 29, 1935, in Columbus, Miss., daughter of the late Mary Elizabeth Colvin and Jack Thomas Rowe. She was a member of the Locust Grove United Methodist Church, a devoted Christian, wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, and an inspiration to all with whom she came into contact. Betty's biggest pleasure was her family and homemaking skills complemented with teaching her granddaughters the fine art of shopping and Clinique bonus time. The highlight of the year was the day after Thanksgiving, where she enjoyed the day shopping with all of her girls. Betty's family would eagerly await Thanksgiving and Christmas dinner, where she would prepare their favorite dishes. Everyone agreed that no one could cook like "Nana," especially her turkey and dressing. Betty will be lovingly remembered for her kindness, humor, beautiful smile, and enthusiastic greeting for everyone she met. The love she shared with her family and friends will live on for years to come. Mrs. Fuselier was known as Kathy and Miss Kathy to her kindergarten classes that she dearly loved. She was a devoted wife and mother who also enjoyed working with children and animals. He is survived by a son, David Gregory, of Ellenwood, and a sister, Vera Cox, of Benton, Ky. January 28, 2005 MORRIS, NELLIE Mrs. Nellie Morris, of Ellenwood, passed away Friday, Jan. 28. 2005. Mrs. Morris is survived by her husband, Mr. George Morris, and they have been married for 57 years and have live in Ellenwood for the past 45 years. She is also survived by two sons, Mr. Danny Morris, of Ellenwood, and Mr. Ricky Morris and his wife, Kathy Morris, of Ellenwood; two grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Interment will follow at Forest Hill Cemetery in Forest Park. DAVIS, AUSTIN E. "STELL" Mr. Austin E. "Stell" Davis, age 80, of McDonough, passed away on Jan. 28, 2005. Mr. Davis was born in Wheeler County, Georgia, on July 18, 1924, the son of the late Austin and Nora Gillis Davis. Mr. Davis served in the U.S. Army during World War II as a gunner in the 746th Tank Battalion. A participant in the D-Day landing, he achieved the rank of corporal and was awarded the Silver Star for "gallantry in action" on July 24, 1944, near St. Lo, France. He was a member of The Rock Baptist Church, in Rex, where he served as a deacon. Mr. Davis, a retired truck driver, is preceded in death by stepmother, Matra Davis, and sister, Effie Richardson. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Eleene Davis; children, Ned and Dawn Davis, Norma and Larry Adams, and Jackie and Don Davis; sisters, Betty Jane Massey and Tat Fennelli; nine grandchildren; four great- grandchildren; and nieces and nephews. Interment will be at Haisten/Eastlawn Memorial Park. January 29, 2005 BLANKENSHIP, WILLIAM MARVIN Mr. William Marvin Blankenship, age 85, of Stockbridge, died Jan. 29, 2005. Mr. Blankenship was born May 18, 1919, in Henry County, the son of the late Viola Mae Moss and Joseph Robinson Blankenship. He was a member of Waters Chapel Holiness Church, where he had previously pastored for 28 years. He had retired as a salesman for Wheeler Lumber Company. Mr. Blankenship enjoyed working, wood working and his loving family. He was preceded in death by children, William Alton Blankenship, Meryel Turner and Grady Marvin Blankenship; siblings, J.R. Blankenship, Beuron Blankenship, Lily Johnson, Frances Garrard and Lee Hugh Blankenship. Survivors are his wife, Lilia Ruth Weaver Blankenship, of Stockbridge; children, J.D. and Marsha Blankenship, of Stockbridge, David and Emma Lou Blankenship, of Stockbridge, Carol and Ricky Baines, of Rockmart; stepchildren, Morde Spencer, of Stockbridge, Deborah Pierce, of Hapeville, and Ira Neal aand Judy Spencer, of Stockbridge; siblings, Pauline Burton, of Stockbridge, and Calvin Blankenship, of Sugar Valley; 17 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Interment will be at Haisten/Eastlawn Memorial Park. January 30, 2005 MONNINGH, JAN Lt. Col. Jan Monningh, U.S. Army Retired, 68, of Locust Grove, Ga. died Sunday, Jan. 30, 2005. He was born in Grand Rapids, Mich., son of the late Cornelius Maxwell and Blanch Stebbins Monningh. Lt. Col. Monningh served two tours of duty in Vietnam. He was a member of the Anglican Church in America, the American Legion and VFW, a member of the Scottish Clan McKay, the Griffin Gun Club, a Life Member of the NRA, and past president of the (GSSA) Georgia Sport Shooters Association. He is survived by his wife, Carlotta; children, Maxwell Monningh of St. Charles, Ill. and Maria Foran of Geneva, Ill.; siblings, Candace Goodyear of Charlottesville, Va. and Fletch Monningh of Crystal Falls, Mich.; grandchildren, Shannon Foran and Emma Claire Foran.
