Internment will be at Camp Memorial Gardens, June 2, 2005 HAYNES, NAOMI BESHEAR Mrs. Naomi Beshear Haynes, 89, of Hampton, died June 2, 2005. She was a devoted homemaker who was very spunky and enjoyed her family, friends, flowers and cooking. Mrs. Haynes was a member of First Baptist Church of Lovejoy. Her son, Gail Haynes in 1952 and her husband, Johnnie Leverne Haynes, preceded her in death in 1998. Survivors include her son and daughter- in-law, Bobbie G. and Connie Haynes of Jefferson, Ga.; four grandchildren; five great grandchildren and several nieces. MacDowell, Jr. a Vietnam veteran, age 61, of McDonough, Ga., died Sunday, June 5, 2005. He was born in Baltimore, Md., son to the late Donal Bane and Emma Eugenia Westendorf MacDowell, Sr. He enjoyed genealogy and was an avid reader. He is survived by wife, Eleanor D. Interment Westview Cemetery with military honors. KIRKHAM, ANNE Anne Kirkham, the matriarch of Anne and Bill's Restaurant in Forest Park, passed away June 5, 2005. She along with her husband of 61 years, Bill Kirkham, started the well-known Forest Park landmark and made it one of the most famous eating places in Forest Park. Anne Kirkham was 76 years old and, like most people her age, grew up during hard times. She was born and raised in a small town in South Carolina during World War II and the depression which taught her the need for strong family and hard work. Mrs. Kirkham is survived by her husband , William C. (Bill) Kirkham; her children, Dianne Hutchinson, Deborah Coogler, Greg Kirkham, Kathy Chafin and Randy Kirkham; 10 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Anne was the cement that held this large family together. Her wit, smile, and temperament kept all of the children and employees in line. When Anne spoke, people listened knowing she would not stop until they did. She had a kind heart that reached out to everyone, not only family, but also anyone she thought was in need. She loved gardening, painting and she loved people. Good deeds are like diamonds that you collect for Heaven. Anne Kirkham has a world of diamonds awaiting her in Heaven. She touched he lives of everyone she met always with a kind word, a smile, and a look out of the corner of her eye. She was witty and had a soft touch. Forest Park will miss this grand lady. Interment will follow at Forest Hills Memorial Gardens. June 7, 2005 TRAMMELL, FRANKLIN EUGENE "GENE" Gene, age 72, passed away suddenly on Tuesday morning June 7, 2005 at his home in Forest Park. He was born and raised in Mountain View, Ga. He graduated from Forest Park High School. He served in the Army for two years. He retired from the Gulf Oil Corp with 35 years of service. He loved to work in his vegetable garden and with his flowers which brought joy to many people that passed his home on the parkway. He was a loving and caring husband to his wife Mildred and a very caring dad to his children, who he loved very much. He was a good friend to many. He was preceded in death by mother and father, Marie and Frank Trammell; son, Dean Edward Trammell; sisters, Maurice Forrester, Arnette Butler, and brother, Hansel (Bill) Trammell. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Mildred. GEORGE, KEITH Keith George of Seminole, Fla. and formerly of Lake City, Ga. died Monday, June 6, 2005 in Macon. RIGGS, HAROLD RUSSELL Harold Russell Riggs, 70, of McDonough, Georgia passed away suddenly on Tuesday, June 7, 2005. Russell was born November 7, 1934 in Swansboro, North Carolina. He served three years in the United States Army and served on the Douglas, Arizona Police Department. Russell retired from the Forest Park, Georgia Fire Department at the rank of lieutenant after twenty-seven years of service. He also retired from the Avis Rent-A-Car Organization. Russell is preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Janie Riggs of Swansboro, North Carolina, his brother, John Thomas Riggs of Vero Beach, Florida and his sons Stephen Russell Riggs and Gregory Scott Riggs both of Douglas, Arizona. June 8, 2005 JACKSON, EDYTHE KIRBO Edythe Kirbo Jackson, age 86 of 902 Mosley Street, Vidalia died Wednesday, June 8, 2005 at her residence after an extended illness. She was a native of Mitchell County, moving to Vidalia in 1954, was a retired music teacher with the Vidalia City Schools and Toombs Central School, was a member of the First Baptist Church of Vidalia and the Steadfast Sunday School Class. She was involved in civic and community activities including Franklinia Playhouse, and after her retirement continued to teach piano lessons in her home. She was preceded in death by her husband, Benjamin Pope Jackson, Jr. and a son, Benjamin Pope Jackson, III. Mrs. Jackson is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Dana and Bill Clark of Stockbridge; one son, Russell Dasher of Reidsville; four sisters, Marble Fox or Brownsville, Cal., Laury Ann Cross of Thomson and Nona McCranie and Ronnie Brooks both of Albany; one brother, W. Interment will be in Pinecrest Cemetery. MILLS, JAMES ALFRED Mr. James Alfred Mills, age 75, of Stockbridge, Ga. died June 8, 2005 at St. Mary's Hospital in Athens, Ga. Mr. Mills was born June 12, 1929 in Madison County, Ala., the son of the late Sarah Louise and Walter R. Mills. He was a devoted and loving father, grandfather and brother, he served his country for 15 years in the U.S. Army, retired from Atlanta Wire Company, was an active member of Stockbridge Free Holiness Church, served his community as a volunteer fireman. His wives, Linda Gail Mills in 1983 and Belle W. Travis Mills in 2003 preceded him in death. Survivors include his children, Steve and Deborah Mills of South Pittsburg, Tenn., Jeff and Cindy Mills of Winder, Ga., Scott Mills of Pensacola, Fla.; brothers, Billy Mills of Griffin, and Winfred Mills of Henager, Al.; sister, Linda Sealey of McDonough; eight grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Interment will be in the Stockbridge City Cemetery. June 9, 2005 SUDDERTH, ROBERT EDWIN Mr. Robert Edwin Sudderth, age 68, of Locust Grove, Ga. died June, 9, 2005 at Cornerstone Health and Rehab. Mr. Sudderth was born February 6, 1937 in Cleveland County, N.C., the son of the late Pauline Johnson and Foster C. Sudderth. June 12, 2005 WILKERSON, EMMA RUTH Mrs. Emma Ruth Wilkerson, age 87, of McDonough, died June 12, 2005, at Laurel Park. She was born Nov. 10, 1917, in Henry County, the daughter of the late Ackie Piper and John Raymond Wilkerson. Mrs. Wilkerson was preceded in death by her husband of 47 years, John Arnold Wilkerson, in 1982 and siblings, Fred Wilkerson, Leverett Wilkerson, Ellison Wilkerson, Asa Wilkerson, Arthur Wilkerson, Addie Lou Wilder, LaRue Lunsford and Laura Lunsford. She was a lifelong member of Sardis Baptist Church, and she had retired from Oxford Manufacturing Company. She was a devoted loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. June 15, 2005 ELROD, ERA Era Elrod, age 90, of McDonough passed away on Wednesday, June 15, 2005. She is survived by a sister, Lena Mae Stephens of McDonough; niece and husband, Edna and Durel Nelson of McDonough; nephew and wife, Carroll and Louise Elliott of McDonough; grandchildren, Keith and Jennifer Elrod of Barnesville and Billy Elrod of Fairburn and an extended family. Interment Hillcrest Cemetery. HAMMETT, WENDELL Wendell Hammett died at the age of 63 on June 15, 2005 from complications of lung cancer. He was born in Hapeville and lived in McDonough for the last 32 years. He retired from Delta after 33 years of dedicated service. He also worked with his son, Gene, traveling to sporting events like the Masters, Olympics and Kentucky Derby until weeks prior to his death. He was also a member of the Wesley Way United Methodist Church in McDonough. Wendell was proud of his work with the Shriners and took this volunteer work as seriously as any job. He served as president of the Tucker Shrine Club in 1997. He was passionate about raising money for the Shriner's Hospital. His survivors include his wife, Gloria Hammett; three sons, Greg, Chris and Gene; grandson, Ricky Hammett; granddaughter, Marsha Hammett; great grandson, Joseph; sisters, Daisy Hammett Rickett and Dessella Hammett Jones; brother, George W. WEAVER, ROBERT Mr. Robert Weaver, of Hampton, passed away June 17, 2005. He is survived by eight children, Robby, Lisa, Kelly, Mandy, Chris, Denise, Angee and Alex; 12 grandchildren; two brothers; and one sister. GADSON, EDWARD (EDDIE) ANTHONY Edward (Eddie) Anthony Gadson, age 20, of Stockbridge, died June 17, 2005. He was born Oct. 7, 1984, in the Philippines to Edward and Paula Hope Pelletier Gadson. Growing up, "Eddie" traveled extensively with his military parents to various countries and states, including Illinois, South Carolina, New Mexico, Louisiana, Ohio and Japan. He attended three high schools in four years, graduating from Union Grove High School, Stockbridge, in May 2003. Eddie was an excellent athlete and excelled at basketball, football and baseball from an early age. In the fall of 2003, Eddie decided to attend Charleston Southern University to pursue his higher education goals of becoming a physical education teacher. Additionally, he wanted to continue with his love of sports and tried out for the football team as a walk-on. Eddie's exceptional skills and abilities quickly earned him a football scholarship. He ultimately garnered recognition as the Big South Conference "All-Conference First Team Receiver," leading the Big South during the 2004 season in receptions (69), yards (792) and touchdowns (9). Eddie's touchdown total was a single-season league record, and he caught 14 passes in one game, also a league mark. Eddie respected others and, in turn, gained their respect. He had an infectious smile that added warmth to others' lives and an uncanny knack for making people laugh. Eddie will be sorely missed but will never be forgotten. Eddie loved and was loved by many relatives, a host of friends and fellow classmates. Survivors include his parents, Edward and Paula; paternal grandparents, Ben Gadson Jr. and Marie J. Haraszti, M.D., age 84 of Jonesboro, Georgia went to be with the Lord on Friday, June 17, 2005. Dr. Haraszti was born in Orgovany, Hungary and came to the United States in 1956 with her husband and five children. Dr. Haraszti is preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Alexander S. Miller, Sr., age 72, of McDonough, passed away Sunday, June 19, 2005 at Christian Ministries Hospice in Riverdale. Mr. Miller was born June 23, 1932 in Hawkins County, Tenn., son of the late William Henry Miller and the late Josephine Johnson Weaver. He was an ex-paratrooper in the 82nd Airborne Division and served in WWII. He was also a licensed airplane pilot. He was the proud owner of Miller Sign Company located in Clayton County and had been in business since 1957. He recently published his first book titled "Lets Get Serious" and had framed some of his artwork to sell. He was the proud father of nine children, 16 grandchildren and nine great- grandchildren. He was a devout Christian and lived his life for the Lord. He was a great artist, sign painter, husband, father and granddaddy and will be missed greatly. He was preceded in death by his twin brother, Jack R. Miller; brother, Hershel Miller and son, Davey Crockett Miller. Gary was a person who never met a stranger and was loved by all that knew him. But most important to him was family. HERRING, MICHAEL LAMAR (MIKE) Michael Lamar (Mike) Herring, age 43, of Stockbridge, Ga. passed away June 21, 2005 after a courageous battle with lung cancer. While in school he was employed by Winn Dixie Food Stores for seven years and then 18 years as a supervisor for JCPenney Catalog Distribution Center in Forest Park. June 22, 2005 ELROD, GRACE MATHIS Mrs. Grace Mathis Elrod, age 89, of Locust Grove, Ga. died June 22, 2005 at Westbury Medical Care Home in Jackson, Ga. Mrs. Elrod was born Jan. 21, 1916 in Jefferson, Ga. the daughter of the late Alice Parker and Thomas Mathis. She was a member of Philippi Baptist Church, a devoted homemaker who loved her family and enjoyed quilting, gardening and cooking. She was preceded in death by her husband, E.N. (Nat) Elrod in 1980; sons, Johnny Elrod in 1991, Buddy Elrod in 1998 and Donald Elrod in 2002. After a brief retirement from the automobile industry, at the age of 74 he decided to go back to work and opened Senile Motors in McDonough. Mrs. Guy was born May 1, 1953 in Korea to Soon Ree Sung and the late Pang Yong. She was known for her love of trees, having owned and operated Guy's Landscaping. Survivors include her husband of 24 years to the day, John H. June 28, 2005 HENLEY, ELOISE THURSTON Mrs. Eloise Thurston Henley, age 91, of Locust Grove, Ga. died June 28, 2005. Mrs. Henley was born October 19, 1913 in Henry County the daughter of the late Nettie Mills and William Thurston. She was a devoted member of the Locust Grove First Baptist Church where she had been WMU Director for 20 years, taught Sunday School for 35 years and was food director for 20 plus years. Mrs. Henley was known for her good cooking and serving in her church and community. She was preceded in death by her husband, J. Mrs. Studle was born July 28, 1935 in Chicago, Kentucky to the late Joseph Adrian and Annie Lorene Downs Cross. He was born in Atlanta, Ga. to Frank David and Willie Clara Smith Rice. Mr. Rice was also preceded in death by his wife, Pauline Davis Rice and his six sisters and two brothers. June 30, 2005 SHETTER, JAMES EUGENE "JIM" Mr. James Eugene "Jim" Shetter, age 46 of Locust Grove passed away Thursday, July 30, 2005 at Southern Regional Medical Center. Jim was born August 20, 1958 in Fulton County, the son of Robert Lynn Shetter and Lucie Catherine Haun Shetter. Jim graduated from Forest Park High School in 1977 and was an accomplished athlete who survived as a C4/C5 quadriplegic for 29 years. Interment will follow at Sherwood Memorial Park. KOEHLER, RUTH ANN NICHOLS Ruth Ann Nichols Koehler age 67, passed away Thursday, June 30, 2005. Since her birth in Buffalo, N.Y. on February 23, 1938 she celebrated life to the fullest. Ms. Koehler was preceded in death by her parents, Hayward and Lucetta Nichols and brother, Warren Nichols. She is survived by her eight children which she dedicated her life to raising, David Koehler of Jonesboro, Victoria Koehler-Jordan of Jackson, Debra Burkett of Stockbridge, Mark Koehler of Grayson, John Koehler of Jackson, Cindy Sapp of Stockbridge, Mary Oates of Cumming and Ruthie Rakestraw of Hiram.
