Cash, age 74, of Stockbridge, Georgia, one of Clayton County's first firemen, retired Battalion Chief of 32-years, passed away on Wednesday, August 3, 2005 after a hard battle with cancer leaving behind a very broken-hearted family. Survived by loving wife, Myrl Rowden Cash of Stockbridge; son, Randy Cash, of Naples, Fla.; sons and daughters-in-law, Tommy and DeeAnn Cash of Rex, Tim and Belle Cash of McDonough, Mike and Angie Cash of Locust Grove, Kevin and Jana Cash of Locust Grove, Stewart and Laverne Rowden of Griffin; daughters and sons-in-law, Sandy and Danny Barnett of Fayetteville, Leslie and Mike Henderson of Griffin; 13 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Interment will follow at Fairview Memorial Gardens in Stockbridge. McCUEN, GENE C. Gene C. McCuen, age 67, of McDonough, passed away August 3, 2005. Mr. McCuen is survived by his wife Annabelle McCuen of McDonough; children, Valerie (Michael) Blackburn of Jonesboro, Doug (Ann) McCuen of Charlotte, N.C., Gregg McCuen of Stockbridge, and Candace (Charles) Weems of Lithia Springs; mother, Marguerite Jordan of Traverse City, Mi.; sister, Marlene (Garry) Curtiss of Traverse City, Mi.; grandchildren, Andrew and Amanda Blackburn and Charlie Weems. SCOTT, THERESA McELROY McGINTY Mrs. Theresa McElroy McGinty Scott, age 35, of McDonough passed away Wednesday, August 3, 2005 at the Sacred Journey Hospice. Theresa was born July 10, 1970 in Atlanta to the late Henry McElroy. She was in the last graduating class of Hapeville High School in 1986, where she was a drum major in the band, attended Clayton State College, was a medical assistant and billing representative for 16 years, enjoyed family, friends and being a mother to her daughters. She loved coaching cheerleading, raising money for Breast Cancer research, was fun loving and determined to never give up. Theresa was proud to have been a Breast Cancer Survivor. Survivors include her husband, Michael Scott of McDonough; daughters, Alexandria Elizabeth McGinty and Madison Lourette McGinty, both of McDonough; mother, Marie Bock of McDonough; step daughter, K-Ci Scott of Charleston, S.C.; sister, Rita Summerville of Marietta; nephew, Todd Summerville of Marietta; special friends, Karen Hearn of Locust Grove and Tara Collins of Jackson; father of her children, Paul McGinty of McDonough. Entombment will follow in the Haisten/Eastlawn Memorial Park Mausoleum. August 4, 2005 STUART, DONNA Mrs. Donna Stuart, 62, of Stockbridge, passed away August 4, 2005. She pioneered the gymnastics program in the state of Georgia, and was a retired school teacher, having taught Physical Education, Health and Computer Technology at Riverdale and Jonesboro Middle Schools, and most recently was teaching computer learning to senior citizens at the Riverdale Senior's Center. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Jonesboro where she sang in the choir. Surviving are her daughter and son-in-law, Amy and Kevin Rhodes of McDonough; sister and brother-in-law, Carol and Richard Ellsworth of Lilburn; nephew, Stephen Donald Wilson of Tucson, Az.; best friend, Dr. Joyce Webb of Jonesboro, and three adored cats, Cuddles, Gracie and Skimpy. DENMAN, JAMES ELMER Mr. James Elmer Denman, age 63, of Stockbridge, Ga. died August 4, 2005 at Henry Medical Center. Mr. Denman was born July 19, 1942 in Atlanta, Ga. the son of the late Gladys Lillian Kurts and Harry Adam Denman. He was a member of St. James Catholic Church, served his country in the US Army, and retired from Lucent Technology. He enjoyed his family, computers, and watching sports. Brothers, Harry Denman, Edwin Denman, Robert Eugene Denman and Gerald Denman preceded Mr. Denman in death. Survivors are his brother, Albert Denman and sisters, Virginia Swinney, Edith Mathews and Regina Denman; numerous nieces and nephews. August 5, 2005 HANES, DANIEL WELDON Daniel Weldon Hanes, 66, of Stockbridge, Ga., passed away on Aug. 5, 2005. Mr. Hanes served in the National Guard and was a life-time member of the Kiwanis Club. He was also a member of Jones Memorial United Methodist Church in Lake City, Ga. Interment will follow at Westminister Memorial Gardens. Mr. Hanes was preceded in death by his loving wife, Jackie Callaway Hanes. August 6, 2005 McARTHUR, HERMAN J. Herman J. McArthur, age 76, of Stockbridge, Ga., died Saturday, Aug. 6, 2005. He was born in Trion, Ga.; son to the late John Ausbin and Emma Viola White McArthur. Mr. McArthur served his country with the U.S. Air Force during the Korean conflict. After more than 31 years with Delta Air Lines, Mr. McArthur retired as a foreman in quality control. Mr. McAurthur is survived by daughter, Myra L. McCary; son, Thomas S. McArthur, son, Timothy I. McArthur; daughter, Ramona M. He was born in Lubbock, Tx. to R.B. and Jane McNutt Egger. Roger had worked in construction as a carpenter for many years and he also enjoyed fishing. August 8. 2005 STEWART, PERRY RONNIE Mr. Perry Ronnie Stewart, age 59, of McDonough, Ga. died August 8, 2005 at Henry Medical Center. Ronnie was born December 12, 1945 in Spalding County the son of the late Ruby Frances Preston and Henry Barney Stewart. He graduated from Henry County High School, class of 1964; a graduate of the Kentucky College of Mortuary Science, Class of 1967; began his career as a funeral director for D.T. Carmichael and Sons of McDonough in 1968 until it was sold in 1985. Ronnie was the Henry County Coroner since 1968, serving his community until his time of death on Monday. He enjoyed his family, grandchildren, and was an avid Atlanta Falcons fan. He was a member of the Georgia Coroner's Association, and a past member of the McDonough Kiwanis Club. He is survived by his wife, Jackie Fisher Stewart of McDonough; children, Donna and Danny Holder, Julie and Scott Phillips, and Adam Davis, all of McDonough; grandchildren, Patrick, Katie, and Chase Phillips and Haley and Hannah Holder; brother and sister-in-law, Donnie and Linda Stewart of McDonough; nephews, Rob and Karen Stewart, Ryan and Neal Stewart; aunt, Mary Moye; uncles, T.P. and Willene Stewart, and Lamar and Dolly Stewart. Interment will follow in the McDonough City Cemetery. HUBBARD, SARA LOVE Sara Love Hubbard, age 83, of McDonough died Monday, August 8, 2005. She was born in Henry County, Ga., daughter to the late Owen Jackson and Daisy Dean Gleaton Love. She was born and raised in Henry County, served in WW II, attaining the rank of Corporal. She received the American Theater Service Medal, Asiatic Pacific Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, and the WW II Victory Medal. She was an avid reader and loved to plant flowers. Mrs. Hubbard is survived by her son, Tod R. Hubbard of McDonough, Ga.; brother, Gleaton (Doot) Love of Griffin, Ga.; sister, Polly Miller of McDonough, Ga. Interment will follow at Eastlawn Memorial Gardens. PATTON, JACK E. Jack E. Patton, founder of Jack's Juice, passed away at the age of 77 at his home in Stockbridge. She was born in Birmingham, Al. to the late William Franklin and Frances Lavinia Thompson Goode. Mrs. Wade loved her Lord first and enjoyed teaching Sunday School. She loved to read her Bible and to pray. She was a loyal and loving wife, mother and grandmother. She enjoyed family, cooking for them, telling the family stories and spoiling the grandchildren. Mrs. Wade is survived by her husband, Cecil of Stockbridge; children, C. August 9, 2005 BROOKS, GEORGE R. Mr. George R. Brooks, 79, of Griffin died Tuesday, August 9, 2005. Mr. Brooks was the owner and operator of the Consolidated/Brooks Wholesale in Hampton. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 54 years, Nettie Brooks. Mr. Brooks is survived by two daughters, Lois Pryor and Cathy Buckalew; three grandchildren, Timmy Pryor, Missie McRee and Hope Grinell. Burial at Sherwood Memorial Park BRANNAN, JERRY HARRIS Mr. Jerry Harris Brannan, age 58, of McDonough, Ga. died August 9, 2005 at Henry Medical Center. He was born in Henry County on November 3, 1946. He was a member of Flippen United Methodist Church, he served his country in the U.S. Navy, and worked in commercial maintenance most of his life. His father, Robert Henry Brannan, preceded him in death. August 10, 2005 GILBERT, KATIE LOU FLOYD Mrs. Katie Lou Floyd Gilbert "Maw Maw", age 92, of McDonough, Ga. passed away August 10, 2005. Mrs. Gilbert was a member of McDonough First Assembly of God, she was a devoted homemaker and later worked in the kitchen for Cornerstone Nursing Home. She was born May 21, 1913 in Henry County the daughter of the late Lola Copeland and Joseph Homer Floyd. Her husband, Rev. Marcus Starr Gilbert preceded Mrs. Gilbert in death in 1980. CHILDS, BARBARA ANN McCLENDON Mrs. Barbara Ann McClendon Childs, age 76, of Stockbridge passed away Wednesday, Aug. 10, 2005 at Sacred Journey Hospice. Mrs. Childs was born October 14, 1928 in Butts County to the late Annie Lee Collins and William Blount McClendon. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Edgar Childs, in 1987. She was a member of the Stockbridge Presbyterian Church and loved her family and friends. Survivors include daughter and son-in-law, Sandra and Crandall Smith of McDonough; granddaughter, Stacie Ann Smith of Vinings; numerous nieces and nephews. Interment at Jenkinsburg City Cemetery. BRANAN, HARRY L. Harry L. Branan, age 63, of McDonough, Ga. died Wednesday, August 10, 2005. He was born in Decatur, Ga.; son of the late William R. and Dorothy V. Branan. He was a member of Bethany Baptist Church where he faithfully served as a deacon as well as other ministries of the church. He started the Bluebird Ministry at the Henry County Board of Education Transportation Department. Mr. Branan is survived by his wife, Annelle Branan; son, Lee and Sherry Branan; daughter, Renae and Mike Burch; brother, Harold and Kay Branan; sisters, Nell and Travis Patterson, Trudi and Don Garrard; grandchildren, Clay Branan, Jake, Allie, and Luke Burch; niece, Susanne and Daniel Peters and family; nephews, Allan and Julie Branan and family, Steven and Jane Branan and family, Jeff and Peggy Garrard and family; mother-in-law, Anne C. August 11, 2005 BUTRON, ALICE Alice Burton, age 83, of Pelham, Ga. died Aug. 11, 2005 at Pelham Parkway Nursing Home. She was born in Wilcox County, Ga. on June 19, 1922. She is affiliated with First Baptist Church of Stockbridge, and was a homemaker. Mrs. Burton was preceded in death by her father, John McCall; mother, Alice Newman McCall; and husband, John T. Burton. Survivors include her two sons, David Burton of Pelham and Roy Burton of Decatur; daughter, Sheila Burton of Pelham; two grandchildren, Lauren Burton of Pelham and Stephen Burton of Pelham. DUNSON, WILBUR LEE Jr. Mr. Wilbur Lee Dunson Jr., age 50, of McDonough, Ga. died Aug. 11, 2005. Lee was born November 1, 1954 in Fulton County. He graduated from Forest Park High School Class of '73, he was a member of the Bass Masters and an avid fisherman, and he enjoyed NASCAR, family and friends. His wife, Martha Cheryl Dodson Dunson and a sister, Sharon D. Marvin, preceded Lee in death. Survivors include his daughter, Kristen L. Interment will be at Forest Hills Cemetery . August 13, 2005 WALKER, LAURENCE (LARRY) EMORY SR. Laurence (Larry) Emory Walker Sr., age 78, of Stockbridge, Ga. died Saturday, Aug. 13, 2005. He was born in Ohio to the late Emory Laurence and Madge Lenore Woods Walker. Mr. Walker retired from the Federal Bureau of Prisons with over 22 years service. Prior to this, Mr. Walker was a farmer and enjoyed fishing and hunting. The last 10 years have been his most enjoyable, being able to spend time with his two grandsons in baseball and following Ohio State football. His sister, Juel Stevens, also preceded Mr. Walker in death. Mr. Walker is survived by his wife, Anna of Stockbridge, Ga.; son, Larry E. August 15, 2005 MAYFIELD, MARY JANE Mrs. Mary Jane Mayfield, age 93 of Griffin, formerly of Locust Grove passed away Monday, Aug. 15, 2005 at the Spalding Regional Medical Center. Mrs. Mayfield was born April 17, 1912 in Atlanta to the late William Pritchard Smith and the late Sara Etta Mitchell Smith. She was preceded in death by her husband, William Edward Mayfield in 1966. She was a 1929 graduate of O'Keefe High School, was retired from Loveable Garment Company, was a member of the Locust Grove First Baptist Church, where she was the cook for 17 years. She was also a volunteer for Meals of Wheels. Survivors include her daughters and sons-in-law, Barbara Ann and David Bishop of Austin, TX., Carolyn and David Lank of Lompoc, Ca.; five grandchildren and ten great grandchildren; sisters, Ella Mae Kimberly of Conyers and Hannah Jacks of Jonesboro; nieces and nephews. Interment at Locust Grove Cemetery. August 17, 2005 HAMMETT, AUDREY MAE Audrey Mae Hammett, 75, of Stockbridge, passed away Wednesday, Aug. 17, 2005. She was a member of North Henry Baptist Church in Stockbridge. She is survived by her daughters, Kay Rush of Stockbridge and Deborah Higley of Colorado Springs, Col.; son, Steve (Lynn) Rush of Stockbridge; sisters, Betty Young of St. Simons and Jean Davis of Folkston; brothers, Woodrow Young of Harrison, Ark., and Dwey Young of Memphis, Tenn.; three grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Interment will follow at Fairview Memorial Gardens. SATTERWHITE, WILLIAM (BILL), REV. Rev. William (Bill) Watts Satterwhite, Sr., age 74, of Stockbridge, Ga. died Wednesday, Aug. 17, 2005. He was born Aug. 6, 1931, son to the late Harry Archibald and Gladys Oakley Satterwhite. He retired from the US Army Reserves as a Chaplin (Maj.) after 25 years. He graduated from Oglethorpe University in 1953 and Columbia Theological Seminary in 1956. He was ordained in the Presbytery of Atlanta, June 17, 1956 at Kelley Presbyterian Church where he served as Pastor from 1956-1958. He then served other churches most of them surrounding the metro Atlanta area. The churches he served in Henry County were Stockbridge Presbyterian Church (1976-81) and Hemphill Memorial Presbyterian Church, (1954-58). He was actively involved in church and community activities, serving as Director of After Care Program for Pope Dickson Funeral Home from 1987-92 and a volunteer chaplain at Henry Medical Center. Rev. Satterwhite is survived by his wife of 53 years, Janet Satterwhite; sons, William Satterwhite, Jr. of Stockbridge, Ga., David and Karen Satterwhite of Louisville, Ky., Ken and Peyton Satterwhite of Cleveland, Ga.; grandchildren, Stephanie Satterwhite, Codye and Samantha Satterwhite, Richard Satterwhite, Jonathon Satterwhite; brother, Louie and JoAnne Satterwhite of Stockbridge, Ga.; several nieces & nephews. Interment at Hemphill Memorial Presbyterian Church Cemetery. HOPPER, JOHNATHAN C. Mr. Johnathan C. Hopper, age 18, of Jackson passed away Aug. 17, 2005. Johnathan was born October 25, 1986 in Atlanta; was a member of New Testament Baptist Church in Ellenwood; was an avid outdoorsman, loving his time spent fishing and hunting, and was a fun loving person. August 18, 2005 PEEBLES, JACK McFARLAND Mr. Jack McFarland Peebles, 88, of Flippen, Ga., died Thursday, Aug. 18, 2005. Mr. Peebles was born on Nov. 12, 1916, the last surviving child of Hughey I and Annie Elizabeth McFarland Peebles home place in Flippen. In addition to farming, he retired after 25 years from Ford Motor Company in Hapeville. He was a lifelong member of Flippen First United Methodist Church, served in the United States Navy (Coast Guard) and was a 50-year member of the Fraternal Lodge No. 37 in McDonough. Mr. Peebles was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Floyd Peebles, and siblings Marge Burch, Jeanette Adams and Frank Peebles. He is survived by sister-in-law Muriel Peebles of Virginia Beach, Va., and several nieces and nephews. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. August 19, 2005 HARRIS, SARAH RUTH SMITH Mrs. Sarah Ruth Smith Harris, age 62, of McDonough, Ga. died Aug. 19, 2005 at Henry Medical Center. Mrs. Harris was born July 22, 1943 in Henry County, the daughter of the late Margaret Ruth Gleaton Smith and Ralph Lamar Smith. She was a member of Mount Vernon Baptist Church. Sarah was a devoted, loving wife, mother, grandmother and sister. She enjoyed her family and friends and was known for being devoted and dependable at work and home. She was also preceded in death by a sister, Brenda Elaine Smith and a brother, Ralph Eugene Smith. Survivors are her husband, George A. Harris, Sr. of McDonough; daughter, Kimberly E. August 20, 2005 OGLETREE, JOHN STEPHEN John Stephen " Steve" Ogletree, age 53, of Tucker, Ga. died Saturday, Aug. 20, 2005. He was born in Atlanta, Ga. to the late John Pruitt and Jacqueline Faye Reed Ogletree. He loved to play golf, drive his Corvette, and was an avid Georgia Bulldog fan. Steve lived life to the fullest each and every day. He was a very successful businessman and never met a stranger and loved his family unconditionally. Mr. Ogletree is survived by his son, John Alan Ogletree, Hermosa Beach, Calif.; daughter, Heidi Anne Ogletree, McDonough, Ga.; brother, Timothy Carl (Melissa) Ogletree, McDonough, Ga; niece, Jacqueline Christine Ogletree. Interment will follow at Camp Memorial Park. HURLEY, DOROTHY GAYLER Mrs. Dorothy Gayler Hurley, age 80, of Lyerly, Ga., passed away Saturday, August 20, 2005. Mrs. Hurley was born Nov. 20, 1924. She was a retired bookkeeper from the Chattooga County Hospital, a member of the Summerville Presbyterian Church, and was preceded in death by 3 brothers, Malcolm Gayler, Duane Gayler, Burl Gayler, and a son-in-law, Charles Wynn. August 21, 2005 GLASS, B. DARRELL B. Darrell Glass, age 55, of Stockbridge, Ga. died Sunday, August 21, 2005. He was born in Bainbridge, Ga. to Bonnie McCoy and Laura A. Glass. Darrell began his ministry at the age of 16 and has served the Church of God for the past 39 years in service as a pastor, evangelist, and mentor. His pastorates included service in the states of Georgia, Florida, and Minnesota. He was a beloved husband, father, and friend and will be most remembered for his investment in people, teaching us through mentoring compassion and generosity, how to love those around us unconditionally. His hobbies included reading, shopping, and landscaping. He had a deep love for history, a gift which resulted in his masterful teachings of God's Word. For those who knew him best he will also be remembered for his unique personality. Mrs. Williams was born May 15, 1924 in Sevier County, Tenn. the daughter of late Pearl Hurst and Robert Howard. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother who enjoyed her family, gardening, sewing and being outside. Mrs. Glisson was born in Ft. McClellan, Ala. on July 24, 1955 to Grady Thomas Bagwell and the late Vivian Josephine Bagwell. Mrs. Glisson worked for the Clayton County District Attorney office as Financial Manager for Child Support Recovery. She was a member of the Grace Community Church, where she was devoted to the Children Ministries. Interment will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery. BOUTWELL, MILDRED ELIZABETH Mrs. Mildred Elizabeth Boutwell, age 91 of Jonesboro passed away Tuesday, Aug. 23, 2005 at the Jonesboro Nursing Home. She was born May 24, 1914 in Douglas County to the late Sanford and Nannie Abercrombie. She was preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, Maurice Dixon Boutwell, Sr. and a son, Maurice D. Boutwell, Jr. She retired from the City of Atlanta as a school secretary. DENSON, MORRIS DANIEL Mr. Morris Daniel Denson, age 82, of Locust Grove, died Aug. 23, 2005. He was born June 11, 1923 in Flowery Branch, Ga., the son of the late Winnie Davis McElwaney and Morris Bice Denson. Denson was a member of the Local No. 72 pipe fitters union for 58 years. He served his country in the U.S. Navy and enjoyed gardening and fishing. Denson was preceded in death by his wife, Bettie Ruth McGee Denson, and his brother, Ted Denson. August 26, 2005 BING, STEPHANIE FARREN Miss Stephanie Farren Bing of The Rock passed away Friday as a result of an auto accident. She was a native of Fulton County but had lived at The Rock for some time. Interment followed in Oak Hill Cemetery in Griffin. August 27, 2005 BERTSCH, HENRY F. On Aug. 27, 2005, God gave his angels instruction to escort his child, Henry F. Bertsch of McDonough, home at the young age of 80. He was born on Dec. 18, 1924, the son of the late Mittie Conner Bertsch and Henry F. Bertsch in Little Rock, Ark. He was a member of Bethany Baptist Church. He served as deacon, Sunday school teacher and Sunday school superintendent at Emmanuel Baptist Church in Riverdale. He was proud to have served his country in the Navy during World War II and the Korean conflict. He wore his title of husband, father and grandfather with pride. He viewed his family to be one of the greatest accomplishments in life. Mr. Bertsch never met a stranger and always had something to say. He enjoyed fellowship with others and they enjoyed him. For the past 15 years, he played Santa Claus at local Henry County businesses. The word "retirement" was not part of his vocabulary. Mr. Bertsch is survived by his wife of 59 years Donnie Bertsch; daughters and son-in-law, Donna Marshall of McDonough and Judy & Keith Craddock of McDonough; grandchildren, Sherri and Jeff Schmacher of McDonough; Stephanie Turner of Cumming; Kenny Marshall of McDonough; and Shaun Craddock of McDonough. He is also survived by eight great-grandchildren, Jeffrey, Ian, Kyle, Carrie, Christopher, Cameron, Isabella and Zoe. Brothers and sisters-in-law, John and Joan Harville of McDonough and Eugene and Carolyn Harville of McDonough; several nieces and nephews and many close friends for more than 50 years. Robert D. (Red) Morrison, age 81, of Stockbridge, Ga. died Monday, Aug. 29, 2005. He retired from the Lakewood General Motors Assembly plant. He is survived by his companion; Carolyn B. Lord, Stockbridge, Ga.; adopted family; Wanda & Dell McAuliffe, Gary M. & Sherry D. Brooks, Sr., Sharon & Glenn Dukes, Luke & Kay Phillips, II; numerous adopted grandchildren and great grandchildren; several cousins, nieces, Gayle Richards and Edith Haynes. Interment will follow at 2 p.m. at Crossroads Baptist Church Cemetery in Paulding County. CLAY, JAMES A. James A. Clay, Sr., age 74, of Stockbridge, Ga. died Monday, August 29, 2005. He was born in Atlanta to R.A. and Thelma Louise Carnes Clay, Sr. He graduated from Riverside Military Academy, then entered U.S. Army and retired from the service as an S.F.C. after 20 years of service. Then he went to work as a truck driver and retired from the Teamsters Union. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather. He will be remembered for the care that he gave to his wife and family.
