HARRIS, MEREDITH "BETTY" MOHLER SANDERFER Mrs. Meredith "Betty" Mohler Sanderfer Harris, age 85, of McDonough, Ga. died Oct. 2, 2005 at Henry Medical Center. Mrs. Harris was born in Hattiesburg, MS the daughter of the late Minnette McAlphin Rankin and John Trimble Mohler. Betty was a devoted member of Calvary Assembly of God in Hampton. She was known for helping people and traveling. Husbands, William Gilbert Sanderfer in 1981 and Marvin Talmadge Harris in 2000 and her son, William Gilbert Sanderfer Jr., preceded her in death in 2005. THOMAS, HORACE "BUDDY" EDWARD Horace "Buddy" Edward Thomas, age 70, of McDonough, GA died Oct. 3, 2005 at Henry Medical Center. Mr. Thomas was born January 21, 1935 in Fulton County the son of the late Mozell Williams Grindle and Bobbie Carroll Thomas. He served his country in the US Marines for 16 years, enjoyed being a pastor and serving people. He was the past pastor of Trinity Faith Church. Mr. Thomas was also preceded in death by sisters, Vickie Grindle and Joann Cobb. Survivors are his loving wife, Bobbie C. Thomas of McDonough; children, Cathy and Phil Smith of Canton, stepchildren, Doug and Cindy Fox of Canton, Susan Willis of Kingsland, Tony Thomas of Newnan, and Jay Thomas of Griffin; 11 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Interment will be at Hillcrest Cemetery in East Point. HOUZE, WOODSON A. Woodson A. Houze, 87 of Forest Park, Ga. passed away on Monday, Oct. 3, 2005. Mr. Houze retired from the U.S. Navy after 22 1/2 years of service, where he survived the attack on Pearl Harbor, he also retired from the Forest Park Post Office, and was actively involved at First Baptist Church of Forest Park, where he taught Sunday School for 18 years. October 6, 2005 JACKSON, JAMES T. "JIM" Mr. James T. ”Jim“ Jackson, age 46, of Jones Road, McDonough, passed away Thursday, Oct. 6, 2005 at his residence. He was born August 14, 1959 in Wichita, Kan. to Jack Jackson and Carol Masterson Jackson. Mr Jackson worked in directional boring and was an avid hunter and fisherman. ENRIGHT, THOMAS JOHN Thomas John Enright, 68, of Stockbridge, passed away Thursday, Oct. 6, 2005, from complications of idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis. Tom Enright was born on May 13, 1937, in Chicago, Ill., to the late Thomas Joseph Enright and Marie Fitzgerald Enright. He is preceded in death by brother, Jack Emmet Enright. He graduated with a degree in communications from Loyola University in Chicago. After working for the Chicago Motor Club AAA for 10 years, Tom spent 27 years with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and was appointed Regional Administrator for the eight southeastern states before retiring in 1998. He started Consensus Consortium, a transportation and public policy consulting firm. Tom was very active in his church and community. He served as a board member and past president of TEAM Georgia, a safe driving coalition dedicated to saving lives, and as a past board member of Eagle's Landing Country Club. Survivors include his wife, Joanne; daughter, Kathy Kuzuba (Al); daughter Carolyn des Islets (Tom); son, Tom Enright (Lindsey); daughter, Laurie Hesse (Jack); and 11 much loved grandchildren. October 9, 2005 SMITH, POLLY ANNE WEISS Mrs. Polly Anne Weiss Smith, age 84, of McDonough, Ga. died Oct. 9, 2005 at Sacred Journey Hospice. Mrs. Smith was born in Jefferson County, Ky. the daughter of the late Maude Hefner and Edmond Weiss. She worked most of her working career for Eastman Kodak as a laboratory technician. Mrs. Smith enjoyed her family, crocheting, raising English Bulldogs and bull mastiffs and her fish pond. Survivors are her husband, John (J.T.) She was preceded in death by her great-grandmother, Icey Blair Graham. October 10, 2005 TURNER, WADE HAMPTON, JR. Wade Hampton Turner, Jr., 89, of Naples, Fla. passed away on Monday, Oct. 10, 2005. Mr. Turner was born March 20, 1916 in Henry County, the son of the late Daune George and Wade Hampton Turner Sr., and was raised in McDonough. After graduation from high school, he began work in the furniture business for Rhodes Furniture. In 1967, he left Rhodes Furniture and moved to Naples where he started Robb & Stucky. He retired from Robb & Stucky in 1985. He was a member of the Rotary Club of Naples, and a past president of the Better Business Bureau. He was a veteran of the Pacific Campaign of World War II having served proudly as a staff sergeant in the 20th U.S. Army Air Force. Mr. Turner was always active in his children's school activities, as well as Boy Scouts and band. He was an avid golfer, and he also enjoyed gardening. He was a member of the First Methodist Church of Coral Gables. He is survived by two children; Wade H. Turner III, and Douglas (Sandra) Turner. He is also survived by his sister, Jean Price, his brother, Allen Turner and a granddaughter Emily Turner. Interment at Haisten/Eastlawn Memorial Park October 11, 2005 WALDEN, MARGIE PEARL Margie Pearl Walden, age 78, of Stockbridge, Ga. died Tuesday, October 11, 2005. She was born in Twin City, Ga. to the late Frank and Lois Cowart Oglesby. She was a 20 year volunteer with the Henry Medical Center Auxiliary and a member of the Stockbridge First United Methodist Church since 1964 where she taught Sunday school, worked in the nursery and was a member of the UMW. Mrs. Walden was also in charge of family ministries for several years, was a member of the choir, and participated in the Disciple Bible Studies. She was a woman of character and strength who loved her family, her Church, all animals and birds, and was an avid Braves fan. Mrs. Walden was also preceded in death by her husband, William Oscar Walden and her son, William David Walden. He served his country for 20 years in the U.S. Navy and was employed 25 years with Lithonia Lighting as a Model Maker. Mr. Fisher was a member of Stockbridge First Baptist Church and a member of the Fleet Reserve. He enjoyed country living and country music and was a loving husband and father. Mr. Fisher was also preceded in death by a brother, Steward Fisher and sister, Sarah Bowen. Mr. Laney was born Jan. 22, 1926 in Atlanta, Ga., the son of the late Alene White and Hubert C. Laney. Mr. Laney was retired from Georgia Power with 39 years of service, a member of Masonic Lodge 70 F&AM for 50 plus years, served in the Navy during World War II as a boat swain mate on the U.S.S. Beaumont, was a member of Berea Christian Church and enjoyed woodworking and boating. He had been a resident of Bay County since April 2005, moving there from Stockbridge, Ga. Her served in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War and the Georgia Air National Guard for 33 years at Robins Air Force Base in Warner Robins, Ga. He was a retired criminal investigator with the FAA. Mrs. Salmon was born June 6, 1932 in Owensboro, Ky., the daughter of the late Marion Lewis McCarty and Frances Lucille Freels McCarty of Owensboro, Mrs. Salmon was a member of McDonough First Baptist Church where she was a member of the Faith Sunday School Class and the Senior Choir. She had served as a volunteer for Meals on Wheels, and was an avid Atlanta Braves and Kentucky Wildcats fan. She was also preceded in death by her husband, William Everett Salmon in 2003 and a sister, Martha Terry in 2004. A resident of McDonough, he was originally from Anderson, S.C. and moved to the Atlanta area as a pipefitter with the Plumbers Steamfitters and Service Technicians Local Union No. 72, retiring in 2001. An active church member he also enjoyed motorcycling and woodworking. He s survived by his wife, Marilyn J. Clark; daughter, Tracey C. Glazener and her husband Steve; son, James G. Mr. Turner is survived by his daughters, Debbie Sue Turner of Fla.; Mr. and Mrs. David and Jody Blankenship of McDonough, Mr. and Mrs. Jim and Jerry Lyon Moon of Williamson, GA.; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; wife of 27 years, Mary Alice Allen; brother, Larry Turner of High Falls, GA; sisters, Barbara Harris of Jackson, GA, Patsy Bennett of Locust Grove, GA, and several nieces and nephews. Interment will follow at The Rock Baptist Church Cemetery. October 28, 2005 HALL, JAMES DOUGLAS James Douglas Hall, 62, of Cedar Creek Rd., Cartersville, GA, passed away Friday, Oct. 28, 2005. Mr. Hall was born Oct. 22, 1943 in Henry County, Ga. He was the son of the late James Hall and Willie Mae Hall, Smith. He was proceeded in death by a brother, Richard Hall and a sister Betty Hall. Survivors include his wife Shirley A. Hall and children, Richard Hall, Tina Thomas, Cassie Pruette, Teresa Simmerday, and Carol Ann Hall. His brothers include, Jimmy Hall and Terry Hall, and sisters, Mavis Evans Brenda Smith and Martha Watkins. Included are 9 grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews. Interment will follow in The Sunset Memory Gardens. October 31, 2005 CARRYL, BILL Bill Carryl, age 58, of McDonough, GA, died Monday, Oct. 31, 2005. He was born in Miami, Fl to the late Henry William and Honey Means Carryl. Mr. Carryl attended the Community Bible Church, was a member of the Corvette Car Club, and a certified scuba diver. He enjoyed the outdoors and working in the yard. He was a loving husband, father and brother and lived life to the fullest. Mr. Carryl is survived by his wife, Barbara Carryl; daughter, Natalie Carryl, Orlando, Fla.; sister, Lisa Carryl, Fayetteville, Ga.; nephews, Erik and Kristian Bludau; step-daughter, Tamarah Henderson and his four legged son, "Bailey". HARDY, BARBARA JEAN Mrs. Barbara Jean Hardy, age 74, of Jackson, formerly of Hampton, passed away Monday, Oct. 31, 2005 at the Spalding Medical Center. Mrs. Hardy was born July 3, 1931 in Spalding County, daughter of the late John Robert Lindsey and the late Grace Mardel Brooks Lindsey. She was a member of Moores Temple Baptist Church in Hampton. Her husband, Harvey “Jack” Hardy and sister, Gwen Crowder preceded her in death. Survivors include daughter and son-in-law, Ann and Marc Crandlemire of Milner; sons & daughters-in-law, Dan and Cindy Hardy of McDonough, Randy and Ramona Hardy of Douglasville; grandchildren, Denise & Joe McDaniel, David Byrd, Katie and Josh Black, Brandon Hardy, Alexis Hardy; great-grandchildren, Joel McDaniel, Zack McDaniel, Madison Byrd, Hunter Black; brothers, Johnny Lindsey and Doug Lindsey. Several nieces and nephews also survive. Interment will follow in Westwood Gardens.
