Brock, daughter of Valentine and Nancy Brock, was born April 20th, 1838, in Henry County, Ga., and died most triumphantly at the same place on the 28th day of August, 1892, at the age of 54 years, 3 months and 23 days. Miss Duck, (the name by which she was familiarly known) lost her father while quite young, and was raised in a home of ease and plenty by her mother, of whom she was always a close companion, and with whom she chose to live a quiet and domestic life ever afterwards. being naturally possessed of an amiable and gentle nature, and adhering from childhood to true principles of Christianity, she was the friend of all who knew her. Exemplifying through all the trials of life the purest Christian virtues and graces, being naturally of rather delicate frame and constitution, she never developed into very robust womanhood, and during much of her life a subject of afflictions, through all of which she bore herself with the patience and resignation that showed her entire confidence in the divine power, and especially during her last days and hours of her beautiful life, but sad afflictions, maintaining her reason to the last moment, knowing full well when death came and what it was, she gave us a farewell that told of triumph and victory and was more an invitation to come on than a farewell. The very high esteem in which she was held, and the spirit of bereavement caused by her death, was in part manifested by the very large concourse of sorrowing relatives and friends assembled at her funeral and burial from her mother’s house the next day. She leaves her aged mother, a number of relatives and very large circle of friends to mourn her loss, but not without hope. JOHN M.
