JOSEPH M. CARMICHAEL PASSES AWAY On last Monday evening at 7 o’clock Mr. Joseph M. Carmichael, Henry County’s oldest citizen, died at the home of his son, Mr. W. B. Carmichael, five miles west of McDonough at the advanced age of 92 years. “Uncle Joe,” as he was known to his friends, was a man of upright and exemplary life, whose honor, integrity, faithfulness and industry are worthy of emulation. A good citizen, who was interested in the welfare of his neighbors and his County, a friend, who stood by in time of need, a reader of God’s word, who lived in harmony and peace with his fellowman, a husband, who was faithful through the long years, a father, who loved and reared his family to honor God and served their brothers, he will be missed alike by friends and loved ones. To very few are granted so many years of life and still fewer serve so faithfully their day and generation. Mr. Carmichael is survived by his aged wife, two daughters, Mrs. Ida Alexander and Mrs. John Woodward and one son, Mr. W. B. Carmichael, besides a number of grandchildren and great grandchildren. One brother, Mr. H. W. Carmichael, also survives him. The funeral was conducted at McDonough Cemetery on Tuesday afternoon at 2:30 o’clock by Rev. L. D. King, amid a large concourse of friends and relatives who had come to pay their last respects to this venerable man.
