To those who know of whom I am speaking, there is no occasion to make any other statement. Aunt Sallie was the long life companion of Elder W. S. Fears, so universally known as “Uncle Buck.” It has been the privilege of the writer of this brief notice to have known this good woman for more than sixty years. It will suffice to say, that the excellency of her long life’s work was marred by but few faults. The maiden name of the greatly beloved woman was Sallie Kleckly. she was born in South Carolina, on the 25th of August, 1809. In the course of human events she moved to Henry County, Georgia, in the year 1826. Was married to Mr. John Whitsel about the year 1831. But a short period intervened, until she was left a youthful widow with one child to love and care for. During the interval of her widowhood, Bro. W. S. Fears had the misfortune to lose his first companion. After an elapse of time these two were united in the sacred bonds of matrimony, during the year 1838. From that period on through a long series of years they have lived in perfect union. The vast crowd that attended the burial was a clear indication of the love and high regard in which she was held by the entire community. Bro. A. G. Thomas made an instructive and encouraging talk, in the burial service. She died as she had lived in love and peace with God. Children and grandchildren, weep not for mother and grandma. Shed only tears of rejoicing that your beloved grandma is now freed from all care. Those palsied hands and trembling limbs of hers will no more be seen. Wait a little while and she will meet you at the beautiful gate, wearing a crown of endless life. W. T. G.
