MRS. IDA N. FIELDS FALLS ON SLEEP
     Mrs. Ida Nelson Fields, beloved resident of McDonough, succumbed Friday in 
a Marietta hospital to injuries received two weeks ago in an automobile 
accident near Marietta while motoring with her husband, J. F. M. Fields.
     Mrs. Fields was beloved for her fine character and charitable work.
     She is survived by her husband, Mr. J. F. M. Fields, also by a son, D. N. 
Fields of Bay Shore, L. I., a brother, W. D. Nelson, of McDonough; two sisters, 
Mrs. George D. Brown, of Griffin, Ga.; and Mrs. O. S. Moore, of Morton, Miss., 
and two grandchildren.
     Funeral services were held at 4 o’clock Saturday afternoon from the First 
Baptist Church of McDonough. Rev. W. W. Arnold and Rev. Guy Atkinson 
officiating, and burial was in McDonough Cemetery, Howard Carmichael, funeral 
director.
“Smooth the locks of silver hair,
On our mother’s brow with tenderest care,
Gather the robe in final fold,
Around the form so still and cold;
Lay on her bosom, pure as snow,
The fairest, sweetest flowers that grow,
Kiss her and leave her our hearts delight;
Her pain is over, she sleeps tonight.
     Our little city and its hospitable people ever held a warm corner in her 
heart. It was here the best days of her life were spent and when her last hour 
came and the God of eternity called her to her ever last rest, it was her 
desire that beneath the shady trees of our Silent City, on its sloping 
hillsides, surrounded by the beauty, happiness and contentment of our people, 
where the birds warble their most melodious songs, should be the eternal 
abiding place of all that was mortal of her.
     All the care and love that skilled physicians and an anxious household 
could devise and apply for her comfort and assistance were brought into play, 
but the fist of Him who rules our incomings and outgoings had been issued and 
after a brief struggle, despite the prayers and entreaties of all who knew and 
loved her, their appeals were overruled and before the beautiful Friday morning 
of June 8th, was kissed by the rising sun, the sufferer’s spirit took its 
flight to that home the Christian believe is the fulfillment of the  life 
everlasting.
     As the death dew gathered on her marble brow, about her bedside was 
her “boy” always a boy to her, though now grown to mature years with a boy and 
girl around his own fireside. The life so long interwoven with his, with 
tearful eyes he watched as it slowly but surely passed over. The love of a 
mother for her children passeth human understanding. The boy that came to the 
cot of this dying mother and so bravely fought the Death Angel, long ago passed 
out from the little home circle. Business cares and his own home circles have 
encroached upon his time, may have robbed mother of his companionship, but she 
was ever just the same; rejoicing in his success and grieving at his 
misfortunes. He may have grown away from her, but she never from him, he was 
still her boy. We know that years hence the memory of her unselfish devotion 
will make him a better man and her precepts be his guiding star.

Mr. J. F. M. FIELDS AND FAMILY IN SERIOUS WRECK
     Mr. and Mrs. J. F. M. Fields motored to Knoxville, Tenn. last Saturday to 
meet Mrs. Dozier Fields and children who were to pay them a visit.
     En route home Monday afternoon, near Marietta on this side, Mr. Fields had 
a head on collision with a car bound for Knoxville. The impact was so terrific 
that the car was a complete wreck, with even the seats shaken out. Mrs. Fields 
sustained the most serious injuries of any of the party, having both legs 
broken above the ankles, three ribs fractured and possibly internal injuries. 
Mr. Fields was badly lacerated and bruised about the head, chest, arms and 
hands.
     Mrs. Dozier Fields and her children were thrown from the car, she and her 
eldest son receiving scalp wounds and other bruises and sprains.
     The baby was the only one of the family to escape injury. All are now 
under treatment at Nolan’s Hospital in Marietta.
