W. W. GEORGE FALLS ON SLEEP Died, in our city, W. W. George, aged 80 years. Not for him to our tears! Rather let us crown his grave with garlands; few of us will live as long or as well. But he is gone! Another name is stricken from the ever lessening roll of our old settlers, and a solitary woman in the sunset of life, and a lonely home, are left to attest how sadly they will miss him. It must be so, these tender human ties cannot be severed without a pang. Yet in such a death there is no cause for grief. His life work was done and well done. He had passed his 80th birthday and wearied with life’s duties and cares, weary of suffering and waiting, he lay down to rest. “Tired! ah, yes! so tired dear, I shall soundly sleep tonight. With never a dream and never a fear. To wake in the morning light.” There is no language at our command by which we can fittingly portray the sincerity of this man’s Christian character. Conscience guided every act. He was strictly honest in the service he rendered. In short he was not only a Christian, but he was an honorable gentleman, in the highest sense that term implies. To man, woman or child, saint or sinner, he always extended a cordial greeting that lent a ray of light to brighten their pathway in the journey of life. He commanded the respect of all sects and classes of people. We did not fully appreciate his true worth until after the thread of life was severed. But as we caught a glimpse of the snow white sail that bore him away to the distant shore, we awakened to the realization that a good and righteous man had been taken from our midst. The funeral services were held Sunday, 2 p. m. May 27th, Elder Dan Henderson officiating, after which all that was mortal was placed in our City of the Dead. He is survived by his wife and two daughters, Mrs. Baylor Smith and Mrs. Walter Welch.
