Johnson, nee Benton, who was born Feb. 6th, 18??, and departed this life January 16th 1894. She obeyed the gospel of Christ at an early age, thus giving the greater part of her stay here to the service of her Master. She bore her sickness with patience and now she has passed over the river surviving her little babe eleven days. She was too pure to live on earth and God had taken her to live with angels above. This tender and loving sister in every storm of life was a true and undoubting Christian, and her pure influence and gentle manners were duly felt by all with whom she came in contact. Truly can it be said that, "None knew her but to love her." It is sad to give up our dear sister, yet, precious one, we would not call thee back from peace and joy, but we will never cease to miss thee. Watchfully and prayerfully did friends minister to her wants, but the angels needed her "up higher," and God's finger touched and slept; the gates were opened and she entered in. Dear Lura is gone, but her memory will live as long as one remains who knew her. She can never come back to us, but if we live a Christian life we can go to her, where there is no more parting, sickness and death-- for "Mama is where the sun shines always," were the words of her loving boy, who she has watched and cared for with a mother's kind heart. She leaves a husband and seven children, a mother, sisters and brothers, to mourn their loss of a precious one, but their loss is her gain and they have the full hope of the gospel of Christ to cheer them in this sad bereavement. Let them therefore be faithful through life, and they may after a while go to meet her where all may be reunited in the heavenly home forevermore. Sister, thou was’t mild and lovely, Gentle as the summer's breeze, Pleasant as the alt of evening, When it flats among the trees. Peaceful be thy silent slumber, Peaceful in the grave so low, Thou no more shalt join our numbers. No more thou our songs shalt know. Yet again we hope to meet thee, When the days of life are fled, Then in Heaven with joy to greet thee, Where no farewell tears are shed. ONE WHO LOVED HER. Additional Comments: The year of birth for Lura M. Benton Johnson is hard to read on my copy of the article, but, according to my family group sheet on Lura, she was born in 1858.
