16-28 November 1852

The 16th:-”to the W. school..home with George Maddux all night”. The next day 
James returned to school-and to Samuel Moore’s where he would stay during this 
span-unless otherwise noted. 

The 20th:-”to Covington..my mule sliped down in the Creek near Covington-I got 
very wet..to town then to N. R. Lewis..20 miles I wrode today”. He stayed three 
nights with Lewis, went to Lee Bate’s, and visited Sena Lewis with J. H. Lewis. 

On the 23rd, he-”started over in Henry-went to see W. Garner-Snilipsville(?)”-
then back to Mr. Moore’s. The next day he went-“by T. J. Martin’ to John 
Skinner’s-then to Wm. T. Turner’s-ate dinner-in the evening(to)Odell Academy to 
an examination..back to W. T. T.-at night went to an Exhibition(at Odell)..Jas. 
Hilsman teacher”. After a night at Turner’s, he attended exercises the next day 
and night, and went home-“with John Childres”. 

The 26th:-“to Wm. T. Turner’s-got my mule-went to L. H.(Levi)Turner’s”. The 
next day he and Turner went to-“Isan Duckes(Duke’s?)”. 

The 28th:-“I went(to)C.(Cosby)Oslin’s-to see if he was going to teach school 
near where he lives..to Sardis..no preaching..to S. Moore’s-so I spent 28 days 
of November 1852-at this time was in the notion of trying to make a school for 
myself-now commense at the 1st (of)Dec.-page 6”.
