January 3-17, 1853

[On the 3rd he returned to Green Maddux’s]-“got my horse and went to Island 
Shoals..to get some hats..went to T. W. Sim’s..went and got the hats..to S. 
Moore’s..(lodged)it was very cold”. 

[The next day, he]-“started out to hunt(his father)..met him a J. Skinner’s-he 
got me to go to T.(Thomas)Cook’s..absent-I came to M.(?)Head’s”. 

The 5th: “I came back to J. Skinner’s-he(his father)stayed at T. J. Marten’s 
and we met at T. O. Marten’s..we went to Bersheba-dined at B. G. Hooks-stayed 
at W. F.(?)Turner’s all night”. 

The 6th: “to McDonough-returning to S. Moor‘s-called by Polly Pers(Pierce?)ate 
supper..on to Mr. M.”. 

The 7th: “we both went to T. Cook’s(at Key’s Ferry)--lodged..on account of Mr. 
C not being home”. 

[The next day, they started]-“to Bersheba to an auction-stopped a William 
Stargell’s & bot(bought)me a trunk..left it at Moore’s..(I) lodged at J. 
Skinner’s”. 

The 9th: “Pa came to S.(Skinner’s, and)..in the evening(we)went to Wm. Saps(?)-
B. Sk(Skinner?)with us..(then on)to Mr. M.(Moore‘s)-lodged”. 

[On the 10th, James left Samuel Moore’s]-“to come to school..left my horse at 
William T. Turner’s-dined-to school..my entering with Mr.(James)Hilsman-1853”. 

[On the 15th at Bersheba]-“pa came-went from court(J.P. court?)to Wm. T. 
Turner’s-stade till bed time-me and pa went to B. G. Hook’s”.[The next day, 
Turner came to Hook’s]-"and we went home with him-stade all day..to B. G. H.
(all night)”.
