KNOWLES, 1852-1858 (page 11 of 137) March 3rd continued: “I went out to where they was-talked with him a while-then we went to the spring-came back-he left and said he was going to where Pa lives in Dooly Co Geo..” [The next day James wrote to his father; and also learned that William Brewer had lost a child during the night] The 6th: “It come in papers today informing us of what they said he was guilty of-but it proved erroneous-I was very much pestered and hurt to hear-what I did I immediately got Mr. Hilsman to write me a letter to Pa and sent him the pease- a day long to be remembered by me & nevere(?)forgotton(?)”. [some dates appear out of order] After a sleepless night and lonesome day, he and C. D. Hooks stayed alone overnight. Early the next morning, James started to Levi H. Turner’s- “to meeting-saw a good many of my Relations-dined at W. H. T.(Wade Hampton Turner’s)-all of the L. H. T.’s stoped a short time” The 7th: “Very much pestered about Uncle Joe-on Saturday they came on after him..”. The 9th: “..I went over to the house and heard that William Mann died last Sunday night- with Santants(?)fire-no hope of him being in a better world than this-he was one of my old schoolmates at Sardis to Hadden”. [Note: William Hadden-teacher, is listed with the R. J. Harper household-very near the church, on the 1850 Henry Co. census] _______________________ Note: For an expansive, almost complete story of Uncle Joseph Knowles, see my website: Knowles In Georgia at- http://members.tripod.com/knonga - “The Trials of Joseph Noles, 1817-1907”!
