April 24 to May 4, 1853

The 24th continued: “so I went to John Childress for to borrow a horse but all 
the one he would lend M.(N.?)Downs wanted-so I was disappointed-I was very sory 
for I was anxious for to go-so I went on to Mount Bethel as there was S.
(Sabbath?)School there- came back with J. E. B.-ate diner-Mr. Hooks family was 
there-stade all the eve-E. Hooten was there...”.

The 27th: “went to Mt. B to meeting-S. Smith preached-Text 6C. 19(verse)of 
Hebrews (which hope we have as a anchor of the soul-both sure & steadfast and 
which eterth into that within the veil)”.

The 30th: “me & M. J. O.(O’Dell)went a fishing on creek by sh(school?)-came 
back about 12-dined-came to school house-as that was the evening for rehersel 
(of) those plays”.

May 1st: “went to meeting Mt. B. with M. J. O.-home with E. Hooten-came with 
him to the Academy tp preaching again by S. O.-Text in the forenoon-10V 125 
Pslam-all thy works shall praise the O Lord and Saints shall bless the-P. M. 1 
C. of I James 11 & 18 Vs- I heard this evening how J. J. Turner was as the 
other day he was raising a bridge-it fell-he was badly hurt”.

The 4th: “…went I came to the Acdy- D. L. Coleman came going after the Dr. for 
E. D. Oslin-he was sick at A. J. Ammons-so I went there to see him-he was very 
ill-I stade a while came back-then went back to see….”
