May 4-20, 1853

May 4th continued: “him again in the eve after school was adjorned-stade until 
dark-came home for some slippery elm-went back-stade all night-me & F. M. Wyatt 
ate breakfast-we came to school-he was much better”.

May 5th: “at school-at night the sheriff went to levy on J. Fargason’s 
property”.

May 6th: “there is a great confusion about J. F. & Bersheba-I went home-then to 
John Massey’s all night”.

May 7th: “went to the store-in the afternoon at the school house-where they was 
rehersing play(s)”.

May 8th: “…went home with L. Crowell(he was son-in-law to B. G. H.)-to bring 
back his buggy-some rain on us”.

May 12th: “went to meeting Mt. Bethel-J. G. Pain preached-Text 11V of 16 Pslam-
Thou will show me the path of life-in thy presents is fullness of joy-at thy 
right hand there are pleasures forever more”.

May 13th: “he came to the examination-I was much pleased-I received a letter 
from J. J. Knowles Tylor Texas-he wrote that all was well”.

May 14th: “…I have been up to court today at B. G. H.-where I am boarding”.

May 15th: “went to Sharon-B. Strictlin delivered a Temperance lecture-
intermission me & G. W. W. had a long conversation-then (??) preached-I came 
back with John Skinner-H’s (Hook’s)family was(gone)from house-I went to Wm. T. 
T.-ate diner-came back to S. O. all eve”.

May 20th: “..Mr. Hilsman dismissed school at 12 o’clock-me and M. J. O. went 
squiril hunting”.
